Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernandez Rehab Assignment Date Revealed

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez will begin his rehab assignment in Triple-A on Tuesday, per Katie Woo of The Athletic.

Hernandez exited a game in late May against the Colorado Rockies after pulling up following a close play at first, and went on the injured list with a Grade 1 hamstring strain. Woo reports is everything goes well for Hernandez, he could return to the team before their final series of the month against the Athletics.

Teoscar HernΓ‘ndez will start a rehab assignment with Triple A OKC (in Reno) starting Tuesday. Plan is for him to play 4-5 games. If all goes well, he could be activated before the series against the A’s at the end of the month. #Dodgers

The veteran outfielder got off to a slow start to the season, posting just a .701 OPS through April, but turned up the heat in May. He batted .325 before his injury in May, hitting three homers and driving in 14 runs in the process. He had a .882 OPS last month, bringing his season tally to .784.

Hernandez has been one of the best bats in the lineup since his arrival in Los Angeles ahead of the 2024 season, and is sure to make a difference upon his return. His best season with LA so far came in 2024, when he posted an .840 OPS with 33 homers and 99 RBIs on the season.

Over the course of his three years in Southern California, Hernandez has a .262/.319/.473 slash line for a .792 OPS, as well as 65 homers and an All-Star appearance.

Who Replaced Teoscar Hernandez?

Ryan Ward came up in Hernandez’s place when he went down, and he has been a serviceable corner outfielder for the Dodgers so far. Despite splitting time with Alex Call, Ward has featured in 15 games since coming up at the end of May, and has a .802 OPS through those contests.

He has three homers on the year, all coming during his current MLB stint, and has driven in 11 runs as well. Additionally, his .500 slugging percentage would rank third on the team behind Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani if he were qualified.

When Hernandez returns, the Dodgers will likely have to send either Call or Ward down, and if the 28-year-old continues to swing as he has been, it may be a difficult call for them.
