Phil Mickelson accused of inappropriate sexual behavior in new report

Phil Mickelson's career and personal life continue to spiral.

An investigation by Alan Shipnuck in Skratch.golf reveals multiple allegations of inappropriate conduct by Mickelson, including showing the wife of a professional golfer a nude photo of himself and then propositioning her in 2015.

The Skratch report, posted June 26 and titled 'Phil Mickelson's Long History of Misconduct,' comes weeks after Golf Digest reported the 56-year-old Mickelson was banned from a club near his San Diego home after accusations he inappropriately touched a female employee.

One day after the report, it was revealed the six-time major champion withdrew from the British Open in mid-June, marking the first time since 2009 he won’t play the final major of the season. The Open is July 16-19 at Royal Birkdale in England.

Phil Mickelson's reportedly propositioned Pat Perez's wife

Golfer Pat Perez and Perez's wife, Ashley, were staying at a villa next to Mickelson's at the 2015 tournament at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey. They were together when Mickelson showed Ashley a very explicit nude photo of himself on his phone when Perez was in the bathroom, according to the report.

β€œPhil says to me, β€˜I’m going to leave my bedroom door open tonight,’’ Ashley Perez said, according to the report. β€œWhen Pat falls asleep I want you to come see me.’"

Ashley told Pat about the incident and Pat has retold the story to people in the golf world, according to the report.

Mickelson apologized to Pat at least twice. Mickelson and Perez are alumni of Arizona State and both joined LIV Golf in its first year, 2022.

The report details another incident in which Mickelson made inappropriate remarks to a woman and propositioned her "in graphic detail," the woman told Shipnuck. She added, "It felt like verbal rape."

Ashley Perez said she had a very similar "incredibly inappropriate" experience with Mickelson before the incident in which he showed her the nude photo.

Mickelson owned a one bedroom condo on the second story of the clubhouse at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California. Multiple members and employees of the club told Skratch that Mickelson began regularly having at least one woman who was not his wife spend the night in his condo.

A Golf Digest report from June 11 alleges Mickelson approached a woman at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe and initiated nonconsensual physical contact. She rejected his advances and immediately told her supervisors.

Mickelson is no longer welcomed at the club where he has practiced for many years. The incident occurred in the spring.

Mickelson attorney responds to allegations

Mickelson's attorney, Tom Clare, denied the allegations from The Farms Golf Club and issued a statement to USA Today Sports about the Skratch report, admonishing the golf media.

"A small segment of the golf media has decided that because Mr. Mickelson is a successful golfer, every detail of his private and family life is theirs to exploit," Clare said. "Recycling mistakes he has already acknowledged as new reporting, and dragging private family matters into public view, is reckless. It is the pursuit of clicks at the expense of the truth. Do better.”

Mickelson and his wife Amy have been married for 30 years. The couple has three children.

Mickelson was the face of LIV Golf after being one of its biggest recruiters during its launching in 2022. He has played once this year, announcing in April he was taking leave from golf to tend to a serious family health matter.

Mickelson did not play in the Masters, PGA Championship and U.S. Open. This will mark the first time in his career will miss all four majors in the same year.
