Ranking the top 10 first basemen in MLB entering July

MLB heads into the 16th week of the 2026 season. The 2026 All-Star Game takes place in one week, and the All-Star teams, from each respective league, have been announced. The pool of players was arguably as good as it’s been in a long time. Many deserving players earned nods while certain players were snubbed. Here are the top ten first basemen in the league.Β

10. Alec Burleson, St. Louis Cardinals

Burleson is having a strong season for a St. Louis team that is competing. The veteran has been one of the team’s leaders. He’s not an All-Star, but he has put up All-Star numbers.

9. TJ Rumfield, Colorado Rockies

The rookie is having a sensational first season. He has become a dependable hitter in Colorado’s lineup. His name will be among the favorites for the NL Rookie of the Year Award.

8. Luis Garcia, Washington Nationals

The veteran is having one of his best seasons. Entering the week, he is tied for eighth in home runs among MLB first basemen. He’s not an All-Star, but he was close to earning a reserve role.

7. Munetaka Murakami, Chicago White Sox

In his first MLB season, Murakami was leading MLB in nearly every hitting category. Unfortunately, a hamstring injury has caused him to miss more than a month of the season. There is still a chance he replaces a player on the AL All-Star roster.

6. Bryce Harper, Philadelphia Phillies

The veteran continues to produce. He has become a dependable first baseman for the Phillies. He earned a reserve spot on the NL All-Star roster.

5. Matt Olson, Atlanta Braves

The veteran is having another strong season. Entering the week, he is second in home runs among MLB first basemen. He will be a reserve on the NL All-Star team.

4. Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers

The veteran continues to produce. When it’s all said and done, Freddie Freeman will be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He will be the starting first baseman for the NL All-Star team.

3. Willson Contreras, Boston Red Sox

Contreras is having a strong season for the underperforming Red Sox. He was snubbed from the AL All-Star roster. His name will be among the players available at the trade deadline.

2. Ben Rice, New York Yankees

Rice continues to be a bright spot for the Yankees. Entering the week, he leads MLB first basemen in home runs. He earned a spot on the AL All-Star roster.

10. Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles

The rookie has put together a solid season. He’s put his power on display. There is work to be done in terms of strikeouts, but Baltimore has its catcher for the future.

9. Keibert Ruiz, Washington Nationals

The Washington catcher is having an underrated season. He’s come up with timely hits and shown the ability to get on base. He has been one of the better, least talked-about players at the catcher position.

8. Gabriel Moreno, Arizona Diamondbacks

The veteran is having a great season in the desert. He has one of the better slugging percentages among MLB catchers. He is headed for a career year.

7. Carter Jensen, Kansas City Royals

The rookie has done a great job in his first season. He’s hit for power and established himself as one of the better power-hitting catchers in MLB. His name will be in the race for the AL Rookie of the Year Award.

5. Drake Baldwin, Atlanta Braves

Year two has been successful for Drake Baldwin. Entering the week, he is fourth in home runs among MLB catchers. He will be the starting catcher for the NL All-Star team.

4. Liam Hicks, Miami Marlins

Hicks is having a great season for Miami. Entering the week, he is fifth in hits among MLB catchers. Unfortunately, he was snubbed from the NL All-Star roster.

3. Shea Langeliers, Athletics

Entering the week, Langeliers is second in hits and home runs among MLB catchers. He has been on a tear this season. He will be the starting catcher for the AL All-Star team.
