THFC probably needed to make some changes in goal this summer, but the main story will be who they decide to bring in as their new number one.

Vicario has clearly struggled in that role, so it makes sense to offload him, but for now it looks like there’s nothing advancing on a new first-choice ‘keeper.

Dubravka has plenty of experience, though, so seems like a safe option to step in as a backup when required.

The Slovakian has played for Newcastle and Manchester United as well as Burnley in the Premier League.

The talented young West Ham midfielder is surely going to be on the move this summer after his club’s relegation to the Championship, and it seems there are now two main contenders for his signature.

Posting on X this morning, Romano explained that the “clear feeling” now is that West Ham will end up selling Fernandes to whoever offers the most money.

As per the post below, Romano has indicated that it’s now down to Man Utd and Spurs to come up with that money as the player has opened his doors to either club…

??? Clear feeling on Mateus Fernandes deal as reported last week: he’s ending up to the club bringing best financial proposal to West Ham.

Mateus has opened doors to both Man United first and then Tottenham, now up to the clubs.

Mateus Fernandes to Manchester United or Tottenham?

Looking at those two options, it’s surely got to be United for Fernandes as he makes an important choice at this early stage of his career.

Even if it might be tempting to stay in London and to join a team where there’d be less pressure and more guaranteed playing time, Tottenham have been a mess in the last two years.

After back-to-back 17th place finishes, Spurs need to undergo a major rebuilding job, so from their point of view a signing like Fernandes could be ideal.

However, the 21-year-old would surely do much better to choose Old Trafford as his next destination.

United have improved a great deal under Michael Carrick, finishing third in the Premier League in 2025/26, securing Champions League football for next season.

Fernandes could also have a key role there as MUFC need to make changes in midfield after losing Casemiro at the end of his contract, while Manuel Ugarte could surely leave after falling out of favour.

Football Insider have linked Fernandes with Liverpool, while Romano has also previously mentioned Real Madrid, so it could be that we’ll see other clubs come back into the conversation soon, even if for now it looks like it’s a two-club race between United and Tottenham.

£25m asking price set for Championship star with Everton, Crystal Palace and others all joining the chase

17 June 2026 at 16:00

Hayden Hackney is a Championship star, and Premier League teams are looking to bring him up a tier this summer.

The Premier League has shown more strength than ever in its middle tier of late, with a number of smaller teams establishing themselves thanks to clever work on transfers and some really ambitious managers.

That makes it more of a dogfight than ever to stay up, with teams like Everton having to get better just to stay still and avoid relegation battles.

Boro want massive fee for impressive young midfielder

On that note, the Toffees are looking to hoover up some of the Championship’s top talent to imrpve their team under David Moyes. A report from TeamTalk today says that Middlesbrough star Hayden Hackney is a target after failing to achieve promotion with his boyhood team.

Boro are holding out for a “package totalling around £25m”, miles way from Everton’s opening offers which were reportedly £12m and then £15m.

Given Hackney is 23, has plenty of senior experience and room to grow, we would not be at all surprised if Middlesbrough get the fee they’re looking for. They’re banking on other teams joining the chase, and the likes of Crystal Palace and Sunderland have been mentioned as potential suitors.

In other news…

The Premier League’s top teams are all closing in on one very interesting option who has yet to agree a new deal at his current club.

Tottenham are keen to improve their team drastically this summer, no matter how much it costs them.

Talks held: Man United working on signing Premier League duo for under £140m

17 June 2026 at 11:47

Manchester United have reportedly started work on a double transfer raid for West Ham United stars Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville.

The Red Devils have identified the Hammers duo as key targets and some discussions already seem to have taken place.

However, West Ham want as much as £140m for the pair, while Man Utd are aiming to pay less than that, according to the Daily Mail.

Fernandes and Summerville look like they could go a long way to strengthening Michael Carrick’s United squad, but it remains to be seen if they’d really represent good value for money for £140m.

Manchester United looking to raid West Ham

It makes sense that West Ham are facing a fight to keep some of their star names after their relegation from the Premier League to the Championship.

Fernandes looked particularly impressive for the east Londoners despite their disappointing campaign, and the Times recently mentioned that he could cost around £80m as United look to be the favourites for his signature.

That perhaps means West Ham are looking for £60m for Summerville, but that doesn’t necessarily look like great value for money.

While Fernandes has really stood out as an elite young talent, Summerville only got seven goals and two assists from out wide in the season just gone – far from the kind of numbers that would justify a £60m fee.

It could be that the Dutchman would be able to do more in a stronger team with better players around him, but it also looks like a gamble for a position MUFC aren’t even that desperate to strengthen in.

United signed a whole new front three last summer by bringing in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, so they’d do well to focus their efforts elsewhere instead of spending big money on someone who wouldn’t necessarily even get into their starting XI on a regular basis.
