Samsung Galaxy Ring forced Apple to revive iRing project?

26 June 2026 at 11:06

Apple may have changed its mind about the iRing smart ring project, and the Samsung Galaxy Ring appears to be one of the biggest reasons behind that shift.

According to recent reports, Apple is once again exploring the possibility of launching its own smart ring, reportedly called the β€œiRing.”

The project was previously believed to have been abandoned, with Apple concerned that a ring-based wearable could hurt Apple Watch sales, but the wearable market has moved in a different direction.

When Samsung introduced the Galaxy Ring, it did not position the device as a replacement for the Galaxy Watch. Instead, the company presented it as a companion product designed for users who want continuous health tracking.

Many users take off their watches at night, but a ring is much easier to keep on. For Apple, a smart ring could become another entry point into its health ecosystem. Apple may now be seeing the same opportunity.

Reports suggest Apple is revisiting the iRing project after the smart ring category gained momentum. Tipster Kosutami recently claimed that Apple is developing an β€œiRing,” although specific hardware details remain unclear.

iRing thing under development. What a surprise.

The tipster has previously shared accurate information about Apple products, adding more attention to the claim.

In 2024, Bloomberg reported that Apple had stopped working on a smart ring because the company feared it could reduce Apple Watch demand. Later, Oura CEO Tom Hale also suggested that Apple had no plans to enter the market.

Samsung proved that smart rings and smartwatches can exist together. Oura continued improving its platform with software updates, strengthening the category.

Google also entered the space with the Fitbit Air, showing that major technology companies now see smart rings as a serious part of the wearable ecosystem.
