Forget OnePlus 15s, compact OnePlus 16T with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 in works

Recent reports suggest that OnePlus may have cancelled its plans to launch the OnePlus 15s, a compact flagship smartphone for the Indian market. For the uninitiated, the device was believed to be a tweaked version of the OnePlus 15T, which debuted in China earlier this year. While there is no certainty that markets outside China will receive a compact OnePlus phone in the future, a new leak suggests that the company could continue offering such devices in its home market.

OnePlus 16T’s first details emerge

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, a compact performance-focused smartphone from OnePlus is currently under development. While the tipster did not mention the device’s name, it is believed to be the OnePlus 16T.

The device is reportedly being evaluated with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipset, which is expected to be manufactured using a 2nm process. It is also said to feature a compact 6.3-inch flat display with a very high refresh rate.

Apart from these details, the rest of the specifications have reportedly not been finalized yet. The tipster added that development is progressing normally, which suggests that the device could launch in the first quarter of 2027, considering that the OnePlus 15T was unveiled in March this year.

While there is speculation that OnePlus may have skipped the OnePlus 15s for global markets this year, it remains to be seen whether the company introduces the OnePlus 16s next year as a tweaked or rebranded version of the China-bound OnePlus 16T.

Should OnePlus return to launching compact flagships in global markets? Let us know in the comments.
