Apple sees future in AI glasses, moving away from XR headset

Samsung is bringing its AI-powered Intelligent Eyewear (Smart Glasses) this year, and Apple may have finally decided to join the trend. A new industry report sheds light on major shifts happening behind-the-scenes within the supply chain.

TheElec report suggests Apple may now see a future in AI-powered Smart Glasses, rather than an XR headset. The company has reportedly postponed its affordable XR headset project and is reportedly focusing on smart glasses.

Samsung Display, which had been working with Apple on XR headset’s display panels, has reportedly terminated the project. It involved the development of Micro-OLEDs based on glass substrates.

Meanwhile, Samsung Display is continuing its research capabilities on developing OLEDoS (OLED on Silicon) for Samsung’s XR devices and next-generation RGB OLEDoS.

Samsung Display has recently unveiled key related technologies at global exhibitions. Notably, at AWE USA 2026, the company showcased a 1.3-inch, 40,000-nit RGB OLEDoS and a smart glass demo featuring a 0.62-inch RGB OLEDoS.
