One of the biggest Apple leaks has occurred this month, revealing images and component details of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro.

Tata Electronics has a problem on its hands, and so does Apple. Files lifted in a ransomware attack on the Indian supplier have surfaced on the dark web, and this time the haul isn’t just old design papers.

It includes images of Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro units mid drop-test, along with at least six files mapping specific components on the unreleased phones to the exact companies that make them.

Reuters reviewed documents covering chips on the main logic board, plus pieces of the camera and battery assemblies, hundreds of parts in total for the Pro and Pro Max models expected this September.

Some carried “confidential” watermarks and internal Apple code-names consistent with the iPhone 18 generation, which makes it tough to wave off as recycled or misattributed material.

The photos are unremarkable on their own, a grey slab phone with three rear cameras (via HimanshiTech). But paired with sourcing data Apple has never made public, the leak does something more damaging than spoil a design reveal.

Apple just raised iPad and Mac prices on memory costs, and there’s chatter that iPhone pricing could follow. A supply chain breach landing in the middle of that conversation isn’t a great look, even if the two issues are unrelated.

Tata isn’t just any vendor anymore; it’s become central to Apple’s India strategy, with the country on pace to produce over a quarter of the world’s iPhones this year.

Looking ahead, Apple would tighten its audit and access requirements, because the embarrassment here isn’t really about leaked photos. It’s about proving the India expansion can hold up to the same security standard as China did.
