15 May 2026 at 08:46

Samsung, in collaboration with LG Uplus, launched the Galaxy Buddy 5 smartphone. The budget phone is available for purchase in South Korea, but it’s bound to the LG Uplus carrier.

Galaxy Quantum, Galaxy Jump, and Galaxy Buddy are Samsung’s Korea-exclusive portfolios. South Korean carriers partner with the Galaxy maker to launch these devices, which are largely just rebrands of Global variants.

The same goes for the Galaxy Buddy 5 smartphone, which is based on the Galaxy A17 5G. Korean operator LG Uplus brought the Galaxy Buddy 5 on sale. It is the fifth model from the carrier, keeping the legacy since 2021.

Galaxy Buddy 5 comes with a price tag ofΒ KRW 528,000Β (~ $350). It sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with full HD+ resolution. In terms of optics, it features a triple camera setup, bringing a 50MP OIS sensor.

On the front, the device has a selfie camera inside an Infinity-U notch with 13-megapixel resolution. Under the hood, the phone is equipped with a 5000mAh battery, supporting 25W fast charging, while an adapter isn’t included.

Support for an external microSD card is a great perk here. You can expand the storage as much as 2 TB to store thousands of photos and videos. This hardware feature has been entirely wiped out from mid-range and premium models.

Galaxy Buddy 5 is available in three color shades, including Black, Blue, and Gray. It also features an IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.

For a limited period, LG Uplus is offering 20,000 won in Naver Pay points upon trade-in. Additionally, trading in an eligible bonus model can earn up to 50,000 won in Naver Pay points.

Lee Hyun-seung, Senior Vice President and Head of Device/Seg at LG Uplus, said, β€œThe Galaxy Buddy 5 is a practical smartphone that delivers AI features at a reasonable price point, with a slim design and a high-resolution camera equipped with OIS. We will continue to expand our customized smartphone lineup to meet the diverse needs of our customers.”
