Do the Los Angeles Chargers have one more reunion brewing?

The NFL offseason may be in the workout phase, but teams still are evaluating their rosters. Every day and week, organizations identify areas they may need to address. Some teams, like the Los Angeles Chargers, already have significant depth at the skill positions. That does not mean they have stopped considering additional moves.

If there’s one thing fans love more than watching their teams win, it’s watching them win with a familiar face back in the fold. The Chargers reportedly are leaving the door open for a franchise legend to return to Los Angeles.

After a surprisingly productive 2025 season, Keenan Allen may not be finished with his second stint alongside his original team.

Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz has not ruled out Allen’s return. Given Allen’s impact in a limited role last season, the Chargers’ continued interest makes sense. The biggest question may be whether the interest is mutual.

When asked about a possible reunion during Thursday’s Up & Adams, Hortiz acknowledged that a return remains on the table. “Right now we’re in a spot where we’re looking at the roster and letting these young guys get a chance, but I’ve had some communication with Keenan’s representation,” he said.

“We talk. Right now, our guys that we have here, we’re letting them grow and develop, but nothing but love for Keenan. That door is not closed,” Hortiz said.

Allen may recognize that his role in the offense likely would remain limited despite his unexpectedly strong 2025 campaign. He recorded 777 receiving yards and four touchdowns across 17 games with the Chargers.

The reunion helped fuel a playoff run that ended in New England. Since then, the Chargers have strengthened the interior of their offensive line, retained both starting tackles, and recently added David Njoku.

All signs point to an offense capable of putting up points in a hurry. Allen’s role likely would mirror the WR3 role he filled last season. The Chargers also hope Tre Harris takes a significant step forward while rookie Brenen Thompson emerges as a contributor.

Allen remains a free agent, and his current market remains unclear. Could he run it back for one more season in pursuit of a Super Bowl in Los Angeles?
