The feud between Jaylen Brown and Stephen A. Smith has been dominating headlines in the NBA world over the last few weeks.

FS1’s Nick Wright has now weighed in on the situation and called for the ESPN commentator to stop getting into quarrels with athletes.

Nick Wright Feels Stephen A. Smith’s Feud With Athletes Is Hurting Sports Media

Smith responded to Brown’s latest retort on Monday by threatening to do a report on how Jayson Tatum and the rest of the Boston Celtics organization feel about the guard. Brown had previously called Smith out for spreading “clickbait” stories and false narratives.

On his show, “What’s Wright? with Nick Wright,” the sportscaster praised Smith for being one of the hardest workers in the industry. But he also called out the ESPN analyst for acting as a moral arbiter and injecting himself into stories by making veiled threats to athletes.

“These last few years, where he has convinced himself, it appears, that we the people who give opinions on the actual games, are equal stars and equal of important to the people who are playing the actual games, is delusional,” he said.

Wright further said that Smith’s comments and feuds with big-name athletes hurt the entire sports media industry. He also claimed that Smith was the only journalist who adopted this style of reporting.

“Talking to these guys like you’re a mob boss and they better watch what they say, there’s harm in it… If you have real information about the Celtics organization, how they feel about Brown that you’re just sitting on, you should report it. The answer is not go to the mattresses and escalate. And it makes all of us look bad. And here’s the other thing. You’re the only guy who does it,” he added.

Smith is widely known for his unabashed style of reporting, which involves him sharing controversial opinions and hot takes in dramatic fashion. He has certainly ruffled a few feathers with his reporting style and remains one of the most decisive figures in sports media.

This is not the first time Smith has been involved in a high-profile feud with a prominent NBA player. He has also been involved in a long-running feud with Kevin Durant that began more than a decade ago. Smith also had notable feuds with Kyrie Irving and LeBron James over the years.
