Sidney Crosby injury: Will Canada star play in semifinal?

Team Canada will play in the semifinal after a thrilling overtime win over Czechia on Wednesday.

But whether Sidney Crosby will be on the ice remains a question.

The star center left Canada’s win in the second period when his leg bent awkwardly underneath him after he tried to dodge a hit from Radko Gudas.

After the game, Canada coach Jon Cooper didn’t have an update on Crosby’s status, but shared the message among players during the second intermission.

“This will not be Sid’s last game at the Olympics,” Cooper said, per SportsNet’s Kyle Bukauskas.

Cooper revealed he wasn’t sure whether Crosby — who will undergo imaging on his leg — will play in Canada’s semifinal.

“I don’t even have my poker face on either, because I honestly don’t know,” he said, per ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.

Crosby remained in the game briefly after Gudas’ hit. He skated gingerly to the bench and was clearly in pain as he talked to one of the trainers. The 38-year-old eventually made his way to the dressing room favoring his right leg.

Gudas, per The Athletic’s Pierre Lebrun, told reporters he was just trying to finish his check on Crosby.

Canada’s semifinal game will take place Friday.

UCLA enters the matchup looking to bounce back after a tough stretch in Big Ten play, while Michigan State aims to continue building momentum on its home floor. The Spartans have been strong at the Breslin Center this season and currently sit near the top tier of the conference standings, making this a key opportunity for both programs as the regular season heads toward March.

The Bruins bring a roster filled with experienced talent, including guards Donovan Dent and Skyy Clark, along with forward Eric Dailey Jr., who have helped anchor UCLA’s offense this season. On the other side, Michigan State continues to rely on disciplined defense and efficient guard play, a hallmark of Tom Izzo-coached teams, as the Spartans try to strengthen their NCAA Tournament resume.

With conference standings tightening and tournament seeding becoming clearer each week, every result now carries extra weight. A road win would give UCLA a major boost heading into the final stretch of the season, while Michigan State can make a statement by defending home court against a nationally recognized program.

Bruins goalie survives shaky goals to earn first Olympic win for Team USA

Jeremy Swayman gave up two goals he’d probably like to have back, but the Bruins goalie still earned his first career Olympic victory.

Team USA held off Denmark, 6-3, to stay atop Group C with two wins in two games. They’ll close group play Sunday against Germany.

Swayman gave up a goal 1:40 into the game. He made the initial save, but the puck caromed back in off a teammates skate.

After Team USA tied the score, Nicholas Jensen fired the puck from just inside the red line. Swayman reacted late and the puck sailed by him to give the Danes a 2-1 lead.

The Americans scored three straight goals to take a 4-2 lead, but Swayman allowed another long goal with just seconds left in the second to make it close at 4-3.

But Team USA scored the only two goals and controlled the third period to hold on.

Swayman finished with 18 saves.
