Dubai is set to transform the way people move across the city with the launch of its aerial taxi service in 2026, a bold step driven by the need to reduce traffic congestion, cut travel times, and strengthen its position as a global leader in smart mobility. By introducing fast, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft that connect major hubs in minutes rather than hours, the city aims to create a more efficient, sustainable, and seamlessly integrated transport network for both residents and visitors.

Dubai is preparing to revolutionize urban travel with the introduction of a cutting-edge aerial taxi service, set to launch in 2026. This innovative transport mode is designed to enhance connectivity across the city, providing fast, safe, and convenient travel between major areas, business hubs, and iconic tourist spots. The service promises to transform the daily commute by drastically reducing travel times and offering a more efficient alternative to traditional ground transportation.

One of the most significant advantages of this aerial taxi service is the substantial reduction in travel time. For example, the journey between Dubai International Airport and Palm Jumeirah, a distance of about 36 kilometers, will be cut down to just 10 minutes. In comparison, a typical car ride currently takes approximately 45 minutes, depending on traffic. This dramatic change will enable both residents and tourists to reach their destinations much faster, enhancing the overall accessibility of the city.

Developed by a pioneering aviation company, the Dubai air taxi service is part of the broader vision to position Dubai as a global leader in innovative and sustainable urban mobility. This ambitious project aims to integrate aerial transport seamlessly with existing public transportation options, such as buses, metro services, and even electric scooters and bicycles. By doing so, the service will provide a multi-modal travel experience, enabling users to easily switch between various modes of transport for greater convenience.

The service’s development reached a milestone in late 2025 when a successful test flight of the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aerial taxi took place. This flight demonstrated the viability of the technology, marking a key step towards the commercial launch of the service. The test flight, which lasted 17 minutes, showcased the electric aerial taxi’s ability to travel between two locations in the UAE, highlighting its practicality and efficiency.

The aerial taxis themselves are designed with advanced features to ensure safety, speed, and comfort. The chosen model for Dubai’s air taxi service is the Joby S4, which is equipped with six rotors and four battery packs. The aircraft has a top speed of 321 kilometers per hour and a range of up to 161 kilometers on a single charge. These specifications make it an ideal choice for urban air mobility, where high-speed travel over short distances is essential.

To support the operation of the air taxis, a network of specialized “vertiports” is under construction. These vertiports, which are essentially landing pads and stations for the aerial taxis, will be strategically located around the city to facilitate easy access. The first vertiports are set to be built at key locations such as near the Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. These stations will be multi-level structures designed to accommodate both passengers and the aerial taxis, with features such as air-conditioned lounges, parking facilities, and charging stations for the taxis.

The vertiports are designed to blend into Dubai’s iconic skyline, featuring unique and modern architecture. Each station will be capable of handling up to 42,000 landings annually, ensuring that the service can operate efficiently and handle a significant number of passengers. The vertiports will also serve as hubs for integrating other modes of transportation, further enhancing the city’s overall connectivity and mobility.

The Dubai air taxi service will operate at a remarkable speed of up to 321 kilometers per hour, which is significantly faster than traditional forms of ground transport. With the ability to take off and land vertically, the taxis will be able to access areas that are otherwise difficult to reach by conventional vehicles. This capability will make the air taxis especially valuable for navigating through Dubai’s densely populated urban environment, where traffic congestion is a common issue.

The first phase of the aerial taxi service will focus on providing transport between major locations, such as Dubai International Airport, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. These areas are some of the most popular destinations in the city, attracting both residents and visitors. The service will help ease the flow of people between these locations, improving travel efficiency and reducing congestion on the roads.

As the service expands in the future, additional routes may be introduced, further enhancing Dubai’s urban mobility ecosystem. By incorporating new technologies and infrastructure, the air taxi service will provide a glimpse into the future of urban transportation, where aerial vehicles could become a common mode of travel in bustling cities around the world.

In terms of infrastructure, the vertiports will be spread across several key areas, each chosen for its strategic importance. For example, the vertiport at Dubai International Airport will serve as a crucial link between the city’s main airport and other parts of Dubai. The location at the Zabeel Dubai Mall parking area, managed by Emaar Properties, will connect the world-renowned shopping destination with other key areas in the city. Similarly, the vertiport at Palm Jumeirah will be integrated into the luxurious Atlantis The Royal hotel, offering direct access to one of Dubai’s most iconic beachfront resorts.

Another important vertiport is located at Dubai Marina, positioned within the parking area of the American University in Dubai. This location will serve as a key point of connectivity for both residents and visitors, linking the vibrant residential and entertainment hub of Dubai Marina with the city’s business and technology districts.

The Dubai air taxi service is part of the city’s broader efforts to embrace new technologies and sustainable solutions for urban mobility. By investing in this cutting-edge transport mode, Dubai is paving the way for a future where cities can become more connected, efficient, and environmentally friendly. With its innovative approach, the aerial taxi service promises to be a game-changer for the city’s transportation system, making it one of the most advanced urban mobility networks in the world.
