Chiefs GM Brett Veach has broken thesilence on speculation surrounding Travis Kelce’s retirement. Notably, the Chiefs missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 and finished with a disappointing 6–11 record. Since then, the media has speculated that Kelce will retire soon. However, the Chiefs’ tight end has expressed his desire to continue his NFL career.

Brett Veach speaks up about Travis Kelce ahead of new season

Chiefs GM Brett Veach gives an update on Travis Kelce amid retirement buzz and ahead of the 2026 NFL season. Interestingly, Veach’s comments come less than a week after the team’s head coach, Andy Reid, discussed Kelce’s retirement plans.

Veach revealed that the team is focusing on regrouping and re-strategizing as Kelce’s future with the Chiefs remains undecided. On February 24, Veach shared in a press conference, “I think we’ve kind of taken a different approach with Travis in the sense that I think we’ve kind of prepared for either scenario.”

The Chiefs’ general manager also emphasized that they are in continuous contact with Kelce and are managing the situation through dialogue. Veach said, “Coach had mentioned on Friday that he’s had great dialogue with Travis on our end, myself, Chris Shea, Travis’ crew, we’ve had some good dialogue there — and I’m sure we’re going to see him here just like we will all the other players’ agents and we’ll continue that dialogue.”

Veach recently wrapped up his 19th year in the NFL and ninth year with the Kansas City Chiefs. Towards the end, he lavished praise on the 36-year-old tight end and hoped that he would return to the Chiefs.

Veach expressed, “Travis is the best, he’s an icon, hopefully he comes back and we’ll just kind of let that process play out.”

Previously, Coach Andy Reid disclosed that Kelce had casually discussed the matter with him but hadn’t conveyed his final decision yet. Reid said (via NFL Media), “No, there is communication, though. That’s the main thing. I’ve said this before: As long as there’s communication, I’m good. That means people want to move forward. I think that’s where Trav is. I’m not trying to put words in his mouth at all, and I try to give him some space here.”
