Trae Young began his Washington Wizards career with a quiet night (by his standards) and a loss to the tanking Utah Jazz on Thursday.

The former Atlanta Hawks All-Star posted 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting with 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 turnovers in a 122-112 Jazz win. It was Young's Wizards debut, after joining the team at the NBA trade deadline and sitting out with a knee and quadriceps injury.

No Wizards player cracked 20 points, while Jazz rookie Ace Bailey posted a career-high 32 points.

Of course, the Wizards probably aren't sweating the result too much from a long-term perspective.

Will much will Trae Young and Anthony Davis play together in 2025-26?

The same day Young first suited up for the Wizards, the team announced that Anthony Davis is progressing as expected and will be re-evaluated in two weeks.

Under normal circumstances, the Wizards would want Davis and Young playing as much as possible after acquiring both in blockbuster trades this season. Of course, we all know how committed the Wizards are to winning this season.

Along with the Jazz, Washington is one of several teams in the running for the top odds in the 2026 NBA Draft Lottery, which will decide the who gets first bite at one of the most loaded draft classes in recent NBA history. The Wizards have every reason to limit their new stars' minutes in pursuit of better lottery position, to the point their general manager had to insist to reporters that Davis really is coming back this season.

With Young already on the court and Davis supposedly on the mend, it looks like the duo might actually play together in some of the Wizards' 20 remaining games on the schedule. It won't be many games, but there should at least be some value in getting the two some experience with each other.

NBC reportedly hiring Jason Benetti as lead MLB play-by-play announcer

Jason Benetti will be named NBC's lead play-by-play announcer for its Major League Baseball coverage, according to Front Office Sports.

Benetti, who is the current play-by-play announcer for the Detroit Tigers, will kick off the season on March 26 when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks. He will then settle in as the main voice of NBC's "Sunday Night Baseball" with a rotating cast of analysts from local broadcast teams.

Prior to his time calling Tigers games, Benetti was the main television voice of the Chicago White Sox for eight seasons.

NBC won't be Benetti's first time in front of a national audience. Since 2022 he has worked as an announcer on Fox's college football, college basketball and MLB coverage. This also won't be Benetti's first time with NBC. He served as the lead voice of Olympic baseball coverage during the 2020 Summer Olympics and was part of the network's MLB "Sunday Leadoff" games on Peacock.

NBC has already announced that former MLB players Clayton Kershaw, Joey Votto and Anthony Rizzo will serve as studio analysts on its broadcasts for 2026 and beyond. Longtime announcer Bob Costas will serve as studio host.

Last year, NBC struck a deal that will see it pay nearly $200 million per year for "Sunday Night Baseball," formerly of ESPN, and a "Sunday Leadoff" package, as well as the wild-card round of the playoffs. Peacock will be the exclusive home of many of those games, as its broadcast schedule lays out.Β
