A North Carolina Central University student-athlete has been charged with raping a teammate.
According to the arrest warrant, 19-year-old Alan Webster III, of Fuquay-Varina, was charged with second-degree forcible rape.
Webster, a sophomore on the track and field team, is being held without bail in the Jan. 13 incident involving a female teammate.
Webster made a first court appearance on Thursday morning.
In a statement, North Carolina Central said it was aware of the allegations, which were made on March 23.
"Alan Webster is not a current member of the track and field team; however, he is currently enrolled at the university,: NCCU wrote. "The university is supporting the student who disclosed the reported incident through its standard Title IX process, which includes a thorough investigation. NCCU has a rigorous Student Code of Conduct, which is being followed in this matter. No further information on the status of this process will be shared at this time to protect the rights of the parties involved."
The university referred further questions about the case to the Durham County District Attorney's Office.
