Injured Naomi Osaka retires in Bad Homburg Open final, Karolina Muchova wins title
Naomi Osaka did not earn her first career grass court WTA title on Saturday. Instead, she retired midmatch with a right foot injury.
She took a medical time out in the first set. Her movement seemed hampered indicating it was something she was dealing before Saturdayβs final.
Osaka is set to begin her Wimbledon run on Monday. Hopefully stopping play was more precautionary than an indication of its severity.

Osaka bowed out of a final before with injury
Unfortunately, this is not the first time this happened to Osaka since her comeback from childbirth.
In 2025, she reached the final of the ASB Classic, a warmup for the Australian Open. Up a set, she was forced to retire with a rib injury. There was a week between the ASB Classic and the Australian Open so Osaka was able to play, advancing to the third round.
All four of her Grand Slams were on the hardcourts, two at the Australian Open and two at the US Open.
She seemed in good spirits after the retirement so hopefully that bodes well for how she is feeling about her upcoming Wimbledon run.
