Toto Wolff Reveals What He Thought After Meeting Kim Kardashian at Monaco GP
Kim Kardashian made her Formula 1 paddock debut in Monte Carlo this weekend, arriving to support Lewis Hamilton at the Monaco Grand Prix. It wasn’t exactly low-key. Kardashian brought her sister Khloe along to the grid, watched qualifying from a balcony above Ferrari‘s garages, and generated more column inches than most of the cars on the starting grid.
Among the people who got to meet her was Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff – and he came away impressed.
Wolff, who remains close to Hamilton despite the Ferrari move, gave his take on the SKIMS business owner.
“She’s, obviously like – I know a bit from Lewis how nice she is, and she is so genuine,” Wolff said.
Wolff Thinks Global Fame and Genuine Character Go Hand in Hand
Wolff expanded on why Kardashian’s warmth didn’t surprise him.
“There’s a reason why people are as big globally, because they are also genuine people,” he said. It’s a point that’s easy to be cynical about, but Wolff isn’t a man prone to empty PR praise. When pressed for a fuller verdict on Kardashian, he settled on something more telling than a full sentence: “From a minute of talking, I think she’s…[nods].”
A nod from Toto Wolff. High praise.
Hamilton and Kardashian have been an item since early February, with the relationship becoming public knowledge after a weekend together at a retreat in the Cotswolds. Since then they’ve appeared at the Super Bowl, shared dinners with their respective families in Los Angeles, and been photographed cycling together in New York.
Monaco, then, is the relationship’s first Formula 1 weekend.
Martin Brundle did his best to get a word in during the pre-race grid walk, navigating a chaotic Monaco grid that at one point saw him shoved by a stranger – to which he replied “Don’t push me mate, I’m nearly famous.”
He spotted Kardashian and made his move, but her entourage kept her moving through the crowd and the interview never happened. Wolff, it turns out, had better luck.
