Then and now: How do prices to watch the Knicks compare, plus food costs
Got some extra cash stuffed in your knickers? Well, you might want to party like it's 1999, but you're not going to spend like 1999, if you want to go game three at the Garden!
Eyewitness News did a news archive search at the New York Public Library and found 1999 ticket prices to the NBA Finals between the Spurs and Knicks, cost an average of $4,350 for floor seats and $50 for nosebleeds.
Today, Eyewitness News found on typical ticket sites, an average of $65,000 to be on the floor, with StubHub on the high end, at $105,064.
In the nosebleeds today it costs an average just over $4,200.
This is shaping up to break a record as the most expensive NBA Final in history.
For the rest of us enjoying the game at home, hosting a watch party, it's not like you can do this on the cheap either with today's prices.
Well, if you think recent inflation has raised grocery prices? According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, if you spent $200 on a watch party back in June of 1999, the same month of the NBA Finals back then, you would need twice that amount, $400.75 to throw the same party today.
Since 1999, a pound of beef is up 67%. A pint of beer is up 13%.
If you're lucky enough to go to the game, the Garden has some pretty famous concessions like the Pat LaFrieda prime rib.
Starting at $22.50, this one has extra toppings like crispy onions and sauteed mushrooms served with a side of au jus. Your knickers will be a little tighter after one of these bad boys.
Plus, there's plenty more like their massive 5-pound hot dog, street tacos, and of course, this is New York, pizza!
On a more serious note, with ticket prices in the thousands, beware of scams.
If you're seeing tickets for sale on social media or a questionable sites for $75 or even a few hundred dollars, it's probably a scam.
