2026 French Open draw: Schedule and bracket as Coco Gauff, Naomi Osaka and Jannik Sinner prepare to take court

Coco Gauff entered the 2025 French Open final as the underdog. Despite being the No. 2 ranked woman coming into the event, Gauff was set to face off against Aryna Sabalenka — the women’s No. 1 — for the 2025 French Open title.

Gauff overcame the odds, defeating Sabalenka in three sets to claim the 2025 French Open title. It marked the first time in her career that Gauff won the event.

Now, she’ll look to make it two in a row.

The 2026 French Open draw was revealed Thursday, giving fans a glimpse at Gauff’s path to a repeat. It will be a harder road for Gauff this time around, as she enters the French Open as the No. 4 seed in 2026.

2026 French Open women’s draw: Coco Gauff vs. Taylor Townsend in Round 1

Gauff’s first match of the event will come against American Taylor Townsend. The two have squared off just one time in their careers, with Townsend picking up the win.

If Gauff can advance, she wouldn’t face another high-ranked opponent until the third round, where she could meet No. 28 Anastasia Potapova.

Getting back to the final could prove difficult for Gauff, as both No. 3 Iga Swiatek and No. 2 Elena Rybakina are also in the bottom half of the women’s singles bracket.

Sabalenka — once again the No. 1 on the women’s side — doesn’t necessarily have it easy, but likely won’t face a major challenge until the fourth round, where she could take on either No. 17 Iva Jovic or No. 16 Naomi Osaka. Further down the bracket, Sabalenka could meet with No. 5 Jessica Pegula.

If Sabalenka and Gauff are fated to meet again in the event, that wouldn’t happen until the final.

2026 French Open men’s draw: Jannik Sinner looking for career grand slam

Jannik Sinner’s pursuit of a career grand slam received a major boost Tuesday, as Carlos Alcaraz pulled out of the 2026 French Open due to an injury. Sinner and Alcaraz met in the final last year, where Sinner lost despite jumping out to an early lead.

Sinner’s 2026 French Open will begin with a match against wildcard Clement Tabur. Deeper into the bracket, Sinner could square off against No. 5 Ben Shelton. That might be Sinner’s toughest opponent until much deeper into the event.

The bottom half of the men’s bracket is far more stacked with talent. It contains No. 2 Alexander Zverev, No. 3 Novak Djokovic and No. 4 Felix Auger Aliassime. Sinner has a better record against all three competitors — though is just 6-5 vs. Djokovic — giving him an edge should he face one of them in the men’s final.

2026 French Open schedule

The 2026 French Open will begin play Sunday, May 24. First round matches will take place Sunday and Monday, with the second round beginning Wednesday, May 27.

From there, the event will whittle down competitors until the semifinals begin June 4. That’s when the women will take the court. The men’s semifinal will take place the next day, Friday, June 5.

The women’s final is scheduled for Saturday, June 6. The men’s final will end the event Sunday, June 7. The French Open has not revealed match times for the finals just yet.

Drake Baldwin placed on injured list with oblique strain, halting Braves catcher's breakout season

One of MLB’s biggest breakouts is about to have his season temporarily halted. Atlanta Braves catcher Drake Baldwin was placed on the injured list Tuesday due to an oblique strain, the team announced.

Baldwin, 25, was in the midst of an excellent season. Through 48 games, he was hitting .303/.389/.543, with 13 home runs. The team called up catcher Chadwick Tromp to serve as Baldwin’s replacement.

It’s unclear how much time Baldwin will miss due to the injury. After hitting the injured list, Baldwin is required to miss at least 10 games. But oblique injuries can be tricky, and are often multi-week injuries. Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts, as an example, missed five weeks after sustaining an oblique injury in early April.

It’s impossible to overstate Baldwin’s contributions to the Braves this season. Baldwin leads all catchers with 13 home runs, and is one of the few players to have appeared in every single one of his team’s games so far this season. When he’s not catching, Baldwin has served as the team’s designated hitter. His 160 wRC+ — an advanced stat that measures a player’s offensive prowess — ranked eighth among all qualified hitters.

The Braves have been plagued by injury issues this season. The team lost multiple starting pitchers to arm injuries early in the year, stretching the team’s rotation depth. Catcher Sean Murphy missed the early portion of the season due to injury, and lasted just four games before landing back on the injured list. Star outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. also missed time due to a hamstring injury.

Despite all that, the Braves enter Tuesday with 32 wins — the most in baseball. The team’s +86 run differential ranks second in MLB, trailing only the Dodgers.

Baldwin undoubtedly played a major role in keeping the Braves afloat amid those injury woes. Now, it will be up to his teammates to prove they can keep the team rolling until Baldwin is fully recovered.
