Did ESPN Accidentally Leak LeBron James’ Free-Agency Decision? A Look at What Sparked the Conspiracy Theory

Did ESPN hint at LeBron James' next team? Here's why fans believe his free-agency decision may have leaked.
Did ESPN hint at LeBron James' next team? Here's why fans believe his free-agency decision may have leaked.

The NBA world remains in suspense as LeBron James continues to weigh his free-agency options. After James announced late last month that he would not return to the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple teams, including the Miami Heat, Philadelphia 76ers, and Cleveland Cavaliers, have emerged as reported frontrunners to land him.

On Wednesday, ESPN’s “Pardon the Interruption” might have leaked where the four-time MVP could take his talents next.

LeBron James’ Free Agency Takes New Twist After ESPN Broadcast Raises Eyebrows

In the latest episode of PTI, the producer gave the segment a noteworthy title, “Steph Curry Behind LeBron’s Stunning Warriors Decision? Kawhi is Back…?”

While the Kawhi Leonard part was addressed, the show did not mention a potential team-up between Stephen Curry and James, prompting speculation that something might be afoot.

”Did ESPN just leak LeBron to the Warriors? Today’s PTI episode has nothing to do with Steph and LeBron, but a producer labeled the podcast with this title????” an X user wrote.

The same observer added, “Podcast released 30 min ago and the headline isn’t anywhere else, and it’s legit not a discussion during the PTI episode. Very odd….”

However, the X user conceded that there must have been a mistake somewhere, writing, “I think they used tomorrow’s podcast/episode title on today’s episode.”

Whether there was a mistake or not, NBA observers will likely check PTI’s next episode, particularly if the James-Curry story gets the spotlight.

Golden State was seemingly ahead of every team in the race to land the 22-time All-Star early on. Once Draymond Green declined his $27.7 million player option, the Dubs created salary-cap space to add James to an aging but formidable roster.

However, complications have emerged in the Warriors’ reported pursuit of their longtime rival. Some NBA insiders claimed that for James to go to Golden State, the Dubs would need to trade for Anthony Davis, whom the Washington Wizards are unwilling to move.

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne also reported earlier this month that the Warriors needed a commitment from James before making other splashy moves.

While there seems to be a staring contest between the two parties, the Heat, the Cavaliers, and the 76ers have surged as strong contenders to land the NBA’s all-time scoring leader.

Until James decides, which could reportedly happen this week, speculation about where he will play next will continue to captivate the NBA world.

‘Wasn’t the Best Coach on the Market’ — NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest on Bills’ Joe Brady Gamble

‘Wasn’t the Best Coach on the Market’ — NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest on Bills’ Joe Brady Gamble
‘Wasn’t the Best Coach on the Market’ — NFL Analyst Gets Brutally Honest on Bills’ Joe Brady Gamble

One of the biggest surprises this offseason was the Buffalo Bills firing head coach Sean McDermott, despite the team achieving double-digit wins and reaching the playoffs for the seventh consecutive season. While the move was hinted at for several years, actually pulling the plug on the operation was still unexpected.

After all, the Bills’ goal is to win a Super Bowl, and coach McDermott had brought them to the doorstep (AFC Conference Championship) twice. Nevertheless, Buffalo decided to hit the reset button, yet they promoted offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach.

Brady has never been an NFL head coach or even a head coach at any level before. Needless to say, the move was a big gamble. Now, the Bills’ organization is catching some flak.

Bills Criticized for Hiring Wrong Coach in Joe Brady

Boasting an NFL MVP in Josh Allen, one would have thought the Bills could pretty much get their pick of the litter among the best coaches available this offseason. We saw teams hire experienced Super Bowl winners like John Harbaugh and Mike McCarthy.

Another respected name, Mike Tomlin, stepped away from the Steelers this offseason and opted for a broadcasting role at NBC rather than a return to coaching.

Plus, there was always the chance to reach out to an old rival in Bill Belichick to see if he wanted to get revenge over the New England Patriots twice a year. Yet, the Bills went with the safe pick and promoted Brady instead.

Now, FS1’s Colin Cowherd is saying the Bills made a mistake in moving forward with Brady rather than someone else who he feels could actually lead the franchise to its first-ever Super Bowl victory.

BUILD YOUR OWN TOP 100:PFN’s FREE NFL Top 100 Builder

“I looked at all the candidates they interviewed for that job, and they had no interest hiring anybody but Joe Brady,” Cowherd said. “And so I don’t think the Buffalo Bills had good coaches, had great quarterbacks, had capable GMs, have good ownership. I don’t think it’s just bad luck.”

Cowherd went on to reference the more experienced (and proven) options that were on the market. Yet, it appears as though the Bills had their heart set on Brady all along.

“There was a Harbaugh on the market. Kevin Stefanski was a two-time coach of the year. He was on the market. There was the hottest coordinator on the market, Jesse Minter, Jeff Hafley. Everybody was talking about Hafley. McCarthy won a Super Bowl. Harbaugh won a Super Bowl. They were both on the market. And they hired Joe Brady. And when I looked at who they interviewed beyond Brady, it wasn’t great. Brady is going to be fascinating because he wasn’t the best coach on the market.”

Time will tell whether the Bills truly made a mistake, or the NFL’s next great genius hire.

After seeing how successful Brady had been with Allen, it does make sense to entrust him with more responsibility. Buffalo ran the risk of messing up their offensive chemistry by picking someone other than Brady.

It’s an interesting thought experiment, as the Cleveland Browns essentially did the opposite this offseason. Boasting a good defense, they could have promoted Jim Schwartz, but they made an outside hire and lost their prized defensive coordinator in the process. Buffalo didn’t seem to want to take the same risk, so they promoted Brady, and the rest is history.

ESPYs Host Levels Last Year's Emcee With Perfect Response To Terrible Joke

Marcello Hernández, the host of Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards, jumped right into the deep end in his opening monologue with a not-so-subtle jab at last year’s host.

“I also want to shout out last year’s host, Shane Gillis. He is watching from home like a true American,” said Hernández. “On his couch, drinking a beer while a Hispanic guy does his job.”

Buzz: 2025 ESPY Awards Red Carpet: All The Best And Most Talked-About Looks

Gillis received backlash last year after making a distasteful joke about WNBA star Caitlin Clark.

“When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she’s going to work at a Waffle House so she can continue doing what she loves most: fist-fighting Black women,” Gillis said at the time.

Aside from the Gillis joke, Hernández didn’t shy away from highlighting his heritage in his opening monologue, noting that he’s the first Hispanic to host the ESPYs in 25 years. The “SNL” cast member also took the opportunity, amid increased hostility toward immigrants in the U.S., to thank his mother, who immigrated from Cuba.

“I personally think it’s crazy that I get to host the ESPYs,” Hernández said. “This is an American dream, for a child of immigrants to host the biggest show in sports.”

“My mom came to this country by herself at 20 years old; she worked as a nanny, she lived in an efficiency, which is a room attached to a house,” he continued. “She paid her way through college by working during the day and going to school at night. And at her graduation, she was pregnant with me. And I just figured that if I had to hear it every day, you all could hear it once.”

Hernández then implored Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry to give his mother, who was seated right behind him, a hug. Curry, without hesitation, obliged Hernández’s request.

Was That A Baseball Team Or A Fever Dream? Meet The Savannah Bananas.

Did a baseball team or a boy band just kick off the sports world’s most glamorous gathering?

While the choreography, lip-syncing, backflips and yellow uniforms may have seemed like a baffling combo to the uninitiated, Wednesday night’s ESPY Awards opener looked like business as usual for fans of the Savannah Bananas.

The on-stage spectacle also made it clear why the exhibition baseball team is popular enough to sell out Yankee Stadium and boasts more TikTok followers than any Major League Baseball clubhouse.

The Savannah Bananas launched in 2016 on the idea of “whatever is normal, we will do the opposite,” Joe Martinelli, the president and CEO of Visit Savannah, said that founder Jesse Cole told him. That means you can expect dingers celebrated with dance breaks, outfield acrobatics and a pitcher who stands 10 feet 9 inches tall while slinging his heaters on stilts.

The Bananas aren’t playing by MLB rules when they take the field either.

“Banana Ball,” as it’s called, maintains a strict two-hour time limit, with teams competing for one point per inning, making each leg of the game a battle to score the most runs. All bets are off in the ninth inning, however, when scoring is unlimited.

Waiting out four balls won’t get you a walk. Instead, batters make a full sprint around the diamond while the ball is relayed to every fielder before the defense can make a play.

“Banana Ball” has dingers, dance breaks, outfield acrobatics and a pitcher, Dakota Albritton, who stands 10 feet 9 inches tall while slinging his heaters on stilts, as is seen here at Denver’s Coors Field last August.

Providing some true chaos at the plate, the players can even decide that they’re bored with their at-bat and steal first base on any pitch.

Foul balls are fair game no matter where they go because a catch by someone in the stands counts as an out.

Though the antics might remind some of the Harlem Globetrotters’ basketball theatrics, Banana Ball has one key difference: While wacky, the competition is real.

“We get that [comparison] a lot,” Cole told the New York Post, “but the biggest difference is that we never know the result of the game.”

Insider Delivers 4-Word No-Nonsense Message on Rumors Around Ducks Star Cutter Gauthier

Insider Delivers 4-Word No-Nonsense Message on Rumors Around Ducks Star Cutter Gauthier

The Anaheim Ducks’ offseason took a dramatic turn when they matched the Philadelphia Flyers’ record-setting five-year, $90 million offer sheet for star center Leo Carlsson. While the move ensured the franchise kept one of its cornerstone players, it also sparked immediate speculation about what it could mean for fellow restricted free agent Cutter Gauthier.

After leading Anaheim with 41 goals last season, Gauthier suddenly became the center of contract rumors, with many wondering whether he would now demand a deal similar to Carlsson’s.

Insider Shuts Down Gauthier Contract Rumors

The speculation gained momentum after former NHL defenseman Keith Yandle claimed on Spittin’ Chiclets that he had heard Gauthier wasn’t willing to accept anything less than Carlsson’s $18 million average annual value.

However, NHL insider Jimmy Murphy quickly dismissed the rumor with a blunt four-word response: “Confirmed, this is not true!”

Murphy’s response poured cold water on the growing speculation, suggesting the reported contract demand isn’t based in reality.

The Reality Behind the Gauthier Situation With the Ducks

While the rumor generated plenty of discussion, it doesn’t align with the NHL’s contract rules.

Unlike Carlsson, Gauthier is not eligible to receive an offer sheet because he has not yet qualified for Group 2 restricted free agent status. He also does not have arbitration rights, making the rumored $18 million-per-year scenario impossible under the current collective bargaining agreement.

That said, Anaheim still faces an important negotiation.

Following his 41-goal breakout season, Gauthier is expected to receive a significant raise.

Before Carlsson’s record-setting contract, projections had Gauthier landing a long-term deal worth roughly $9.6 million annually. With the market now shifting upward, he could reasonably seek a contract in the $11-12 million range or opt for a shorter-term agreement that allows him to capitalize on another increase in the salary cap later.

Even if Gauthier signs for around $11-12 million annually, Anaheim will need to create cap space before the regular season.

That has already fueled speculation that veterans such as Alex Killorn and Frank Vatrano could become trade candidates as general manager Pat Verbeek looks to balance the books.

Negotiations may not be straightforward either. Verbeek is notoriously rigid in contract negotiations (as seen previously with Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale). However, Gauthier famously forced his way out of Philadelphia by refusing to sign his ELC, proving he is entirely comfortable digging his heels in when he feels slighted by front-office management.

The Ducks can’t afford a prolonged holdout from their top goalscorer, meaning Verbeek will likely have to swallow his pride, move a veteran asset for pennies on the dollar, and pay Gauthier his well-earned premium.

‘He Has Scared Off Teams’ — NFL Insider Slams Brandon Aiyuk’s Latest Desperate Ploy to Force 49ers-Commanders Trade

Brandon Aiyuk has repeatedly said he is interested in the Washington Commanders amid his ongoing beef with the San Francisco 49ers. While some also saw the Commanders as the top suitors for Aiyuk throughout the whole brawl, NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks the 49ers star has even ruined his chance with the Commanders for a potential trade.

Adam Schefter Explains How Brandon Aiyuk May Have Sabotaged a Move to Washington

Former 49ers star safety Donte Whitner sounded off on Aiyuk on his “The Grit Code” podcast this week, saying the wide receiver’s ego might have ended his NFL career. Even former Cincinnati Bengals star T. J. Houshmandzadeh said on the “Speakeasy” podcast that Aiyuk’s “mouth has gotten him in trouble a bit too much.”

Like Whitner, Houshmandzadeh admitted he would not be shocked if Aiyuk never plays another NFL game. Given the criticism Aiyuk has drawn across the league for his repeated social media outbursts aimed at the 49ers, that discussion is becoming harder to dismiss.

Before Aiyuk can join another team, the 49ers would first need to release him, or he would have to pursue reinstatement through the league, neither of which has happened. Meanwhile, he has continued to hint at a desire to join the Commanders, including posting Instagram stories featuring himself in Commanders’ gear.

Then again, Aiyuk also recently shared a video aimed at Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. His actions have seemed to be extremely inconsistent, leading Schefter to believe he has damaged his appeal to interested teams, including Washington.

“I honestly believe that he has scared off teams like Washington,” Schefter said. “I think they’re looking at these social media posts, repeated social media posts where he’s blasting the Niners, where he’s criticizing Jayden Daniels and saying, ‘Is this the kind of guy that we want to bring in right now and have a part of our franchise?’”

Meanwhile,Schefter also added that multiple NFL front offices have even asked him about Aiyuk, saying, “Does this guy even want to play?”

Washington seems unlikely to pursue Aiyuk, as NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the Commanders are not expected to have interest in acquiring the wide receiver “at this stage.”

Washington could reportedly turn its attention toward other options, such as Stefon Diggs. Fowler said that at least five wide receiver-needy teams have checked in on Diggs, while describing Dan Quinn’s Commanders as a club seeking “more of a speed option.”

Schefter also said that Aiyuk’s social media behavior could further push Washington toward signing Diggs rather than taking a chance on the 49ers receiver.

Jannik Sinner recently celebrated his Wimbledon triumph in style during the Champions’ Ball. In addition to sharing the traditional dance with the women’s singles champion, Linda Nosková, the Italian entertained guests with amusing, champagne-fueled confessions about his mother’s reactions during the final and his failed attempts to obtain a motorcycle license.

Jannik Sinner Makes ‘Tipsy’ Admission at Wimbledon Champions’ Ball

After a shocking second-round exit at the French Open, Sinner made a remarkable turnaround at Wimbledon. He produced an impressive campaign, including a dominant win over Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, to set up a showdown with Alexander Zverev in the title clash.

Although he lost a tightly contested first set, the Italian bounced back strongly to claim a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory, successfully defending his title at the grass-court Major and capturing his first Grand Slam trophy of the season.

Following his victory, Sinner arrived at the Wimbledon Champions’ Ball in an elegant black tuxedo and took the stage for an interview, where he was asked about his mother, Siglinde, who left the stadium multiple times during the tense final.

In a candid response, the 24-year-old humorously said he was a “little tipsy” before acknowledging that it was normal for his mother to step away from the match when it became too stressful.

“How is it? I don’t know. I’m a little bit tipsy so… I try to talk very simple with the right words because. But no, Mum left a couple of times the stadium, which is normal. I’m not a parent yet so I don’t know how it feels when the son is playing there. But at the end of the day, we do enjoy moments like this. We can see everyone is very, very happy to be here and of course I try to make them happy as well,” he said.

Sinner made another amusing remark, revealing that he had failed his motorcycle license test for the fourth time just before arriving at Wimbledon.

“I’ve failed it four times. Before coming here, I failed once again. Maybe next year, you ask me the same question,” he said.

Jannik Sinner can now enjoy some time off before kicking off his North American hardcourt swing at the Canadian Open, scheduled to begin on August 2. Having won six ATP Masters 1000 titles in a row, the world No. 1 will look to add to his record at the Montreal event.

‘Needs To Run Its Course’ — Adam Silver Reveals ‘Hopeful’ Timeline for Kawhi Leonard-Aspiration Investigation to ‘Wrap Up’

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addressed the league’s investigation into Kawhi Leonard and Aspiration before Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals early in June. Silver said that the probe, which started in September 2025, was “far along.”

A little over a month later, Silver gave an update on that investigation.

Adam Silver Addresses Timeline for Ongoing Kawhi Leonard Investigation

The Leonard-Aspiration circus took a different turn last week when the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Clippers’ trade involving the two-time NBA Finals MVP was put on hold.

According to multiple reports, the deal may not go through depending on the outcome of the investigation.

On Tuesday, Silver was at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas for a meeting with the Board of Governors. During his press conference, he shared more information on the probe.

“I’m hopeful that it will wrap up this summer. The league did not pause the trade. The parties to the trade made a decision not to go forward, given that the investigation remained open. The investigation needs to run its course,” Silver said.

About 10 months ago, the NBA began investigating a report by sports journalist Pablo Torre, who alleged on his “Pablo Torre Finds Out” show that Leonard signed a $28 million no-show deal with Aspiration in 2022.

The Clippers were lumped into the investigation for their alleged role in funding Aspiration to circumvent the salary cap for Leonard. Team governor Steve Ballmer welcomed the inquiry and said that the Clippers’ transactions with the seven-time All-Star were all aboveboard.

As the investigation went on, the Clippers agreed to trade Leonard to the Raptors for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, two second-round picks, and a first-round swap.

The trade has since been put on hold after the NBA reportedly told the Raptors they would receive part of any potential punishment for Leonard.

As the Leonard-Aspiration issue lingers, The Athletic’s Mike Vorkunov gave context to the extended time the NBA has taken in the Leonard-Aspiration investigation.

“Not only has Wachtell Lipton, the league’s go-to law firm hired to conduct the inquiry, inspected if the Clippers circumvented the NBA salary cap by facilitating a sponsorship deal for Leonard with Aspiration, it has also looked into whether the Clippers improperly covered expenses for Leonard but were not reimbursed for them, those sources said. And the firm has examined if Leonard had a previously unreported endorsement deal with another company, those sources said,” Vorkunov wrote.

When Silver spoke to the media before the 2026 NBA Finals, he wanted the investigation’s results to be released as soon as possible. The executive said that the Clippers and every team should know their “operating parameters” before players can exercise or decline their options, and free agency starts.

If Silver’s projection holds true, Leonard, the Clippers, and the Raptors should know where they stand in their previously agreed-upon trade.

Once again, the sports world is waiting on LeBron James to make a decision. This time, it likely won’t be a pre-scheduled event broadcast live on television. Chances are, it will be revealed the same way everything in the NBA happens: when an insider like Shams Charania gets what will be the league’s juiciest nugget of the year.

Until the chime from Charania’s X notification sounds, everyone is left guessing where James will play his NBA record-extending 24th season. And the predictions have been coming in from all over.

LeBron James Laughs Off Miami Free Agency Prediction

As far as anyone can tell, there are still five destinations alive in the James free agency sweepstakes of 2026.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Philadelphia 76ers are hoping their name gets picked in the James free agency lottery.

Or, at least that’s how it feels, as there will only be one winner in this game.

James himself has stayed silent as teams jockey to change their title chances with one fell swoop. Yet he did take some time to respond on social media to what some might call ‘haters’.

DON’T MISS:LeBron James Rumors: Insider Reveals Which 76ers Star Is ‘Leading the Charge’ To Land the 4-Time NBA Champion

James took note of sports media personality Chris Brockman’s claim that the Heat, with Giannis Antetokounmpo, would only be a “play-in” team if he signed in South Beach.

“If he goes to Miami, enjoy the play-in tournament,” Brockman said of James joining the Heat.

James responded with a series of crying/laughing emojis.

The fact that James took time to respond and may even have been offended could be a sign that he’s been thinking long and hard about teaming up with Antetokounmpo?

Yet, Brockman also went on to state that James will be a “non-factor” this season. In other words, the response could simply be a reaction to how much the future Hall of Fame basketball player is being written off ahead of what may be his final chapter.

MORE:‘Taxes, Golf’ – 2026 ESPYs Host Marcello Hernández Details LeBron James’ Move to East Contender Is a ‘No-Brainer’

Because wherever James goes, he’s not just expecting to be a playoff team but signing up with the full belief that he’ll be adding to his NBA Finals total of four rings. With the Heat very much still in the race, Miami is one of a handful of teams that could help James accomplish his goals.

With coach Erik Spoelstra, Antetokounmpo, and Bam Adebayo already on board, it wouldn’t be a bad bet to make for the 41-year-old.

The Dallas Cowboys signed defensive end Charles Snowden to their roster after the Las Vegas Raiders waived him in May. Snowden arrived in Dallas after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor driving under the influence charge in January, after an incident during his career in Las Vegas two years ago.

Cowboys Defensive End Suspended for Three Games

Snowden was arrested in December 2024 after falling asleep in a running vehicle with a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit. The defensive end’s attorneys submitted a no-contest plea, which will reduce the charge to reckless driving if he completes the terms of his plea. He was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and attend DUI courses.

On Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed on X that the NFL had suspended Snowden for three games for his DUI. He will miss games against the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Baltimore Ravens before returning.

“Cowboys DE Charles Snowden has been suspended for the first three games of the season, per today’s wire. Snowden, per the NFL, ‘is eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including games; his suspension will take effect as of the roster reduction to 53 players,'” Schefter wrote.

Snowden was a two-sport athlete in high school, choosing to play college football for the Virginia Cavaliers over college basketball for the St. Francis Red Flash. He earned second-team All-ACC honors in his final season at Virginia before going pro.

Snowden was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent after the 2021 NFL Draft. He was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to their practice squad in 2022, signed a reserve/future contract in 2023, and was finally waived the same year.

After leaving Tampa, Snowden was signed to the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad in 2023. He spent his time in Las Vegas moving between being waived and being re-signed to the practice squad before finally being let go this year.

The defensive end signed with the Cowboys in June 2026 after a tryout, but his nascent Dallas career will be cut short by a suspension.

Snowden earned a PFN Edge Rusher Impact score of 72.5 after tallying 3 sacks, 4 quarterback hit, and 5 tackles for loss. The defensive end has managed 67 total tackles (35 solo), 4.5 sacks, and 11 QB hits in 33 games played during his NFL career.

Snowden was likely to be buried beneath the depth chart in Dallas, with edge rushers Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku the prime options for the Cowboys. In addition, Dallas selected Malachi Lawrence No. 23 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Free agency slides into the middle of another week, and free agent LeBron James continues to exercise his options. Over his iconic career, James thrilled fans with highlight plays and a charisma that captivated. As a result, some elevated him to the same status as Michael Jordan, a parallel player.

However, for every certified fan, there is a balance. A somewhat large segment of the NBA fanbase is irritated with James. They criticize what they perceive as changing teams and an inability to flop, despite weighing 250-260 pounds. Yet, the free agency drama has drawn criticism from even those who openly supported him. An NBA analyst fired off a scorching take.

Kendrick Perkins Chides LeBron James for Stalling Free Agency Decision

Over 15 years after “The Decision”, James finds himself looking for a new team. Back then, he entered his prime. This time, the twilight of his storied career is happening. Perkins, who won an NBA championship in 2008 with the Boston Celtics, implored James to make a quicker decision.

“The word to describe what he’s doing is grandstanding…I believe that he already knows where he wants to go.”

In essence, Perkins, an ESPN analyst, is accusing James of milking the attention by drawing out the free agency process. Basically, all of the attention is on his decision.

“I believe that LeBron James is in the moment where he wants to feel love. He’s loving all of the attention. He’s loving the phone calls from all the different organizations that want him to come there,” Perkins asserted.

In what almost seems like hourly updates, people refresh their phones to see if James signed. In a way, the entire NBA world sits focused on James. Perkins believes that attention-seeking is what the forward likes.

Granted, every recruit or free agent, from high school students being wooed by colleges or pro players talking terms, many equate attention for respect, and respect will equal a lucrative salary. Now, James does not appear to be prolonging the process to secure a big-money deal.

He is a billionaire who has made more off the court than he has on it. Under those circumstances, he will be able to end his career on his own terms, with the team he wants to play for. Many legends are not afforded the same luxury.

Teams like the Golden State Warriors emerged as viable contenders. However, there is a caveat. If James signs for one year, the deal makes sense. The Warriors are an aging team now. What does that look like in the second year? Undaunted, James appears to believe his decision will occur on his time, not anyone else’s.

Folarin Balogun Says Red Card Furor Caused ‘Outside Noise’ That Was ‘Hard To Avoid’

U.S. star Folarin Balogun admitted Tuesday that the controversy surrounding his World Cup red card caused “outside noise” that made it “difficult” to focus ahead of his team’s exit from the tournament.

The forward was sent off during the United States’ 2-0 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina, leaving the U.S. men’s national team without its leading goal scorer for the round of 16 clash against Belgium.

Against the backdrop of claims the Monaco striker was unfairly dismissed, FIFA’s disciplinary committee lifted the suspension.

But the furor ballooned when it emerged President Donald Trump called FIFA head Gianni Infantino to make the case that Balogun should not have been forced to sit out.

Infantino insisted Trump’s intervention did not influence the reversal.

In the event, the U.S. lost 4-1 to Belgium, exiting the World Cup with a disappointing performance.

Appearing on “CBS Mornings” on Tuesday, Balogun was asked about the controversy.

“My initial reaction was I was happy to be back in the team, but when I kind of started to reflect, I knew it was going to cause a lot of controversy, and I could almost see within my teammates a bit of nerves, because it’s something that is so unique,” he said.

‘Burn This List to the Ground’ — Ex-Ravens QB Sounds Off on Lamar Jackson Dropping 67 Places on NFL’s Top 100 Ranking

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson was the story of the NFL Top 100 list when he tumbled from No. 2 last year to No. 69 this year. The Ravens star had a subpar season and was plagued by injuries, which affected his performances and limited his mobility on the field.

Former Heisman Winner Blasts Lamar Jackson’s Ranking

Former Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III blasted Jackson’s No. 69 ranking on the NFL Top 100 list in a post on X.

“Lamar Jackson is not the 69th best player in the NFL. BURN THIS LIST TO THE GROUND,” Griffin wrote.

The last time Jackson fell out of the top 50 of the ranking was in 2023, when he landed at No. 72. He responded by earning two consecutive No. 2 spots on the elite list.

The NFL community was outraged by Jackson’s low ranking and his ability garnered mixed rankings on different lists. The Ravens star landed at No. 2 overall and QB2 in PFN’s Top 100 list, just behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. He was ranked ahead of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Cincinnati Bengals’ star Joe Burrow.

Jackson has had to deal with being underestimated throughout his career after falling to No. 32 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft despite being a Heisman Trophy winner. In his rookie season, he became the youngest QB to start a playoff game and earned unanimous NFL MVP honors in his first full season under center for the Ravens.

He dismissed concerns about his passing ability by tying the record for most perfect passer rating games with four in 2024 and is currently No. 1 in the NFL’s career passer rating rankings.

Analyst Warns Jackson Over Ravens Job Security

After requesting a trade in 2023, Jackson signed a bumper five-year, $260 million contract ($185 million guaranteed) with the Ravens. Jackson’s contract includes a no-trade clause and he is set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2028.

During an appearance on“First Take” last week, analyst Courtney Cronin leveled a warning to Jackson about his job security in Baltimore.

“He has chosen not to agree to sign any sort of contract extension,” Cronin said. “So, him potentially being out of Baltimore at some point could be on his own if the offense doesn’t work between himself and Declan Doyle… If it works out, that’s great, but if it doesn’t, we know that the Baltimore Ravens are not a team that needs to be a bad team to draft well at QB.

“They got Lamar at No. 32 overall. So they could easily be like, ‘Hey, year one. We don’t think it’s working out, you guys are the same age, there might be a balance of power, fighting struggles.’ They could say, ‘We’ll draft your replacement and start putting the clock on you for how long you’ll still be the starter here.’”

In 2025, Jackson earned a PFN QB Impact score of 77.7, ranking him at No. 13 in the league. In 13 games, he registered 2,549 passing yards on 63.6% completion, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions, while adding 349 rushing yards and two scores for the Ravens, who missed the playoffs entirely after being preseason Super Bowl favorites.

Spain Star Yamal Addresses Ex-Prime Minister's World Cup Racism Row With Classy Message

Lamine Yamal turned 19 on Monday with diamonds around his neck, mischief in the family and the biggest match of his life ahead but the Spain forward's clearest message before the World Cup semi-final against France was not about goals, gifts or fame.

Asked about former Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's controversial remark that France were a great team but "did not have any French players", Lamine, son of a Moroccan father and Equatorial Guinean mother, said football should be a bridge.

"Tomorrow we'll play a brilliant match but if football serves any purpose it's to bring people together," Lamine told reporters in Dallas. "France and Spain are examples of integration. That's what football is all about: integration. Not talking about what someone else has said."

It was a measured answer from a player still young enough to be asked about birthday presents and famous enough for his family to be swept into the tournament glare.

Lamine smiled when asked about his three-year-old brother Keyne, whose spontaneity in front of television cameras has made him one of Spain's unexpected World Cup attractions.

"My brother doesn't realise," Lamine said. "He does what he does at home, and when the camera focuses on him, he gets up to mischief. I like it when people like him. It's fun to see him on screen."

Lamine also arrived at the news conference wearing an extravagant diamond necklace, his birthday present to himself, on the eve of a game he described as "the most important match of my life".

Yet Lamine said he was not fretting over his own numbers, despite having scored only once at the tournament so far. "Every tournament is different," he said. "I'm not worried about having scored just one goal in the World Cup so far. We're winning. I've seen World Cups where Spain were knocked out, and so far that hasn't happened. I hope to keep playing matches so I can score."

Spain face France in Dallas for a place in the World Cup final, with Lamine's birthday week offering another layer of theatre around a player who seems increasingly comfortable carrying attention that might flatten others.

"And it’s going to be a great match. A match that everyone was hoping would happen. Both teams will attack and defend. It’s sure to be a very evenly matched game," he said. For now, he wants football to do the talking — preferably loudly enough to carry Spain at least one match further.

Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson: Which QB Is Ranked Higher in PFN’s 2026 Top Player Rankings?

Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson: Which QB Is Ranked Higher in PFN's 2026 Top Player Rankings?
Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson: Which QB Is Ranked Higher in PFN's 2026 Top Player Rankings?

Ever since Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen broke out in 2019 and 2020, respectively, the two quarterbacks have been compared to each other nonstop. Following PFN’s release of its Top 100 NFL player rankings entering the 2026 season, site analysts revealed which superstar quarterback they believe ranks higher.

PFN Reveals Who Ranks Higher Between Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson

PFN Analyst Ian Cummings described Allen as the “kind of QB we may never see again,” stating he’s “an alien runner with a rocket arm, and the operational intelligence to match.”

Meanwhile, PFN Analyst Jason Katz had just as high praise for Jackson. “Don’t let last year’s injury-plagued season fool you,” he wrote. “Lamar Jackson remains the league’s premiere dual threat QB.”

Ultimately, both signal-callers were ranked as QB1 and QB2, and the No. 1 and No. 2 players overall in PFN’s Top 100. However, only one player can rank atop the list, and PFN opted to give the nod to Allen for the No. 1 overall spot.

“Josh Allen has been a top-ten quarterback by PFN QB Impact Scoring every single year since 2020,” PFN Analyst Jacob Infante wrote. “He was the MVP in 2024, and he’s been a Pro Bowler in three of his last four seasons. He ended 2025 with a career-high 69.3% completion percentage, and his 102.2 passer rating was an upgrade over his MVP season. In addition, his 25 passing touchdowns also ranked ninth in the NFL last year.”

“Where Allen really dominated in 2025 was the ground game. He led all quarterbacks with 579 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns, putting up a league-high 0.45 rushing EPA,” Infante continued to make the case for Allen earning the top rank.

“His elite athleticism can sometimes be overshadowed by his hulking frame and elite arm strength, but his dual-threat ability might be the best in the NFL after Jackson slowed down athletically last year. Allen is at the peak of his game and is a bona fide game-changer, making him worthy of the top spot in the 2026 PFN NFL Top 100.”

BUILD YOUR OWN TOP 100:PFN’s FREE NFL Top 100 Builder

Jackson, on the other hand, still continued to receive extremely high praise, which led him to earn the No. 2 spot. “A first-team All-Pro in both 2023 and 2024, an MVP winner in the former year and the MVP runner-up in the latter year, Lamar Jackson has had plenty of recent accolades to his name,” Infante wrote.

“That’s not even to mention the MVP he won for the 2019 season. He took a slight step back due to injuries in 2025, placing No. 13 among quarterbacks in PFN QB Impact Scoring after leading the NFL in that metric in 2024. Even a down year for Jackson is a great season by most quarterbacks’ standards.”

“He’s starting to rely less on his rushing ability as he gets older, even if he’s still a more than capable runner. His polished passing game has really shone in recent years, as he’s had the opportunity to display his elite arm talent, his deadeye accuracy, his creativity out of structure, and his poise under pressure.”

Just last offseason, Jackson was ranked as the No. 1 overall player, while Allen ranked No. 4. It’s interesting to see how things flipped after their respective seasons, and we could see it flip again by 2027. In the meantime, fans should appreciate these two quarterbacks’ greatness as they once again compete to bring home the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Chiefs Only Have 3 Players Ranked in PFN's NFL Top 100 for 2026 Season After Missing Playoffs

After reaching the Super Bowl in three consecutive seasons and winning the Lombardi Trophy twice during that span, the Kansas City Chiefs endured a disastrous 2025 campaign, finishing 6-11 and missing the playoffs entirely. As a result, only three players earned spots on PFN’s Top 100 players list for the 2026 NFL season.

3 Kansas City Chiefs Make PFN’s Top 100 Ranking

Chris Jones, a 10-year veteran and six-time All-Pro at defensive tackle, claimed the No. 77 spot on PFN’s Top 100 rankings. Although Jones, who placed No. 3 overall last year, saw a significant drop in the rankings, PFN analyst Jacob Infante still sang the praises of the superstar defensive lineman.

“Even going into his 30s, Chris Jones remains one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL today,” Infante wrote. “He’s been ranked as a top-ten defensive tackle by PFN DT Impact Scoring in seven of his last seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, and that streak continued in 2025 with his No. 9 ranking and strong 83.7 score.”

“Jones has been a Pro Bowler in each of his last seven seasons, and he’s coming off a year in which he tallied 7.0 sacks in 17 games. His 87.0 pass-rushing score ranked third among all interior defenders; he still has more left in the tank, but he’s well on his way to a Hall of Fame nod at this current rate.”

The next Chief doesn’t appear until more than 50 spots later, as Creed Humphrey slots in at No. 26. Notably, Humphrey also ranks No. 1 among centers, which Infante mentions in his detailed analysis.

BUILD YOUR OWN TOP 100:PFN’s FREE NFL Top 100 Builder

“Creed Humphrey comes in this year as the third-best offensive lineman, the best center, and the best interior offensive lineman in PFN’s NFL Top 100. It’s pretty easy to see why, seeing as though he’s led all NFL centers in our OL Impact Scoring metric in each of the last two seasons.”

“With an 89.1 score in 2025 and a perfect 100.0 score in 2024, Humphrey is the lifeblood of the Chiefs’ offensive line. He’s been a Pro Bowler in each of his last four seasons and a first-team All-Pro in each of his last two. He’s only allowed one sack and been called for three penalties in the last two years; heading into Year 6, he’s worthy of being deemed the best center in the NFL.”

Patrick Mahomes comes in at No. 15 overall, ranking first among Chiefs players and No. 6 among quarterbacks. Mahomes suffered a torn ACL and LCL late in the 2025 season, causing him to miss the final three games.

BE THE GM OF YOUR FAVORITE TEAM:PFN’s FREE NFL Mock Draft Simulator

He finished the year with just 22 passing touchdowns to 11 interceptions. Still, his greatness and past production keep him from falling any lower in the rankings.

“Even if Patrick Mahomes has seen his efficiency dip over the last three seasons, there’s no denying he’s still a top quarterback in the NFL,” Infante wrote. “After five consecutive finishes in the top three of PFN QB Impact Scoring, he’s finished No. 9, No. 10, and No. 11 in his last three seasons, respectively.”

“Questionable supporting casts have surrounded Mahomes on the Chiefs in recent years, but it would be wrong to bet against someone with his resume. The three-time Super Bowl champion has a rocket arm, incredible field vision, pinpoint accuracy, and the poise to make something out of nothing. There are few better quarterbacks to go into battle with than Mahomes.”

The Chiefs are seeking a major bounce back in 2026. Mahomes is reportedly on track to play in Week 1, and the additions of Kenneth Walker through free agency and Mansoor Delane via the NFL Draft should benefit them significantly. At this point next offseason, there’s a strong possibility that Kansas City will have five or more players on PFN’s Top 100 list.

  • 77) Chris Jones, DT
  • 26) Creed Humphrey, C
  • 15) Patrick Mahomes, QB

Bills Only 2 Have 2 Players Ranked in PFN's NFL Top 100 Despite Entering 2026 Season As Top Contender

Once again, the Buffalo Bills are viewed as one of the top Super Bowl contenders coming out of the AFC. Of course, as long as they have former NFL MVP Josh Allen, buying into the Bills’ chances to win, really, every game they play, isn’t a bad move.

The truth is, with Allen, they always have a chance. Yet, after making a big coaching change by firing Sean McDermott and promoting offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coaching duties, nothing is guaranteed in Buffalo.

While the Bills may be viewed as contenders, it looks like Allen will once again have to do nearly all the heavy lifting, because they have just two members on Pro Football Network’s Top 100 player rankings this year.

Allen Ranks No. 1, Which Other Bills Player Joins Him?

Okay, so the Bills may only have two players, but their top player ranks really high.

In fact, coming in at No. 1 on PFN’s top 100 players list is none other than the Bills’ QB himself. PFN’s analyst Ian Cummings sees Allen as one of a kind.

“He’s a kind of QB we may never see again: An alien runner with a rocket arm, and the operational intelligence to match,” Cummings wrote.

Next and last among the Bills on the top 100 is running back James Cook, who came in at No. 45. He ranked fifth among all running backs, just behind Bijan Robinson and ahead of Jonathan Taylor.

BUILD YOUR OWN TOP 100:PFN’s FREE NFL Top 100 Builder

“Cook has been a top performer for much of his NFL career, earning Pro Bowl recognition in each of his last three seasons. He led the league with 16 rushing touchdowns in 2024, and he followed that up by leading the league with 1,621 rushing yards in 2025. He’s graded fifth among running backs in each of those seasons, as well. He’s a cornerstone for the Bills’ offense and is easily their best offensive playmaker that Allen has to work with.”

The Bills’ top playmaker not named Allen is indeed the running back. Chances are, that won’t change in 2026 either. While the Bills traded for DJ Moore, no one in Buffalo (aside from Allen) will touch the ball more than Cook this season. He’ll have no trouble living up to his ranking, and possibly even improving upon it.

Still, the Bills have just two players among the NFL’s best 100, and both are on offense. Should the Bills be concerned about that?

It just means others, especially on defense after coach McDermott’s departure, will need to step up, not just to prove others wrong, but to take some of the burden off Allen and Cook’s shoulders. We’ll see who’s capable of making a name for themselves later this fall.

World Cup Star Sent Sickening Messages After Split-Second Decision

Norway forward Alexander Sorloth has received severe online abuse following the team's World Cup quarter-final exit against England on Saturday, manager Stale Solbakken said.

The abuse started after Sorloth opted to shoot instead of passing to an unmarked Erling Haaland during a crucial two-on-one counter-attack while Norway were leading 1-0. His shot was blocked and England equalised minutes later, going on to win 2-1 after extra time.

Sorloth's partner, Lena Selnes, shared screenshots on Instagram revealing a barrage of hostile messages, including comments urging the striker to take his own life.

"It is tragic," Solbakken told a press conference in Miami. "That is the world we live in. I tell the boys to stay away from social media, especially on days like this."

"There is nothing more to say about it other than it is completely devoid of sense on every possible level."

Sorloth, 30, who plays for Atletico Madrid, defended his decision after the match, explaining that England defender John Stones had closed down the passing lane to Haaland.

"The only thing I wanted to do in that situation was to pass to Erling," Sorloth said. "But it felt like the pass wasn't there, so I went to shoot."

LeBron James has brought the NBA offseason to a complete standstill. It’s been two weeks since the 4-time champion announced that his eight-year run with the Los Angeles Lakers was over, sending the entire league into a frenzy over his free agency.

While the basketball world is holding its breath to see where the league’s all-time leading scorer will land for a record-breaking 24th season, a rumor has surfaced connecting James to a potential blockbuster reunion with a clutch-shooting guard who helped him win the 2016 championship.

Chad Johnson ‘Hints’ Reunion Featuring LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in Miami

It’s no secret that franchises across the league are actively seeking to secure a seasoned veteran like James. The 41-year-old is exactly what a young, rebuilding roster needs: a leader who doesn’t just boost morale but instills a winning culture.

While several front offices are working overtime to free up the required salary cap space, the million-dollar question remains: where will the 4-time MVP land?

On the latest episode of the Nightcap podcast, former NFL WR Chad Johnson threw a massive wrench into James’ free agency rumor mill. Ochocinco dropped a major hint that the Heat are targeting 9-time All-Star Kyrie Irving to lure the 22-time All-Star back to South Beach.

“What about the opportunity of Kyrie going to Miami?” Johnson said. “I mean, being at LeBron and I’m telling y’all again ahead of time. I continue to throw these hints out, but nobody’s picking up what I’m putting down. What are the chances of Kyrie going down to Miami?”

The idea of the pair reuniting had Joe Johnson completely on board.

“I love it, bro. I ain’t gonna lie. I’m a big fan of Kyrie. You know he takes the game seriously, always in shape…I wouldn’t mind seeing him and Bron get back together…that would be lit,” the seven-time All-Star remarked.

The chemistry between Irving and James is top-tier. They led the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first NBA championship in 2016, breaking a 52-year drought across major sports championships for the city.

During that legendary stretch, they formed one of the most unstoppable offensive duos in the league.

The Cavs overcame a 3-1 series deficit against the Golden State Warriors to hoist the NBA trophy after Irving sank a clutch three-pointer over Stephen Curry with 53 seconds left on the clock.

While absolutely nothing is set in stone, a potential move could require some financial gymnastics for a team that recently acquired Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Though James will reportedly prioritize his fifth ring over a max contract, with Irving having a $39.5 million cap hit for the upcoming season and Bam Adebayo locked in at $49.4 million, this roster combination will not be easy to execute.

World Cup Superstar Sparks Backlash After Revealing Golf Round With Donald Trump

England men’s national soccer team captain Harry Kane has sparked backlash after revealing he’s played golf with Donald Trump.

Kane, whose six goals have helped fire England into Wednesday’s World Cup semifinal against Argentina, disclosed the round with the president during a news conference on Friday ahead of England’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Norway.

The Bayern Munich striker was asked by The Daily Telegraph how he fared against Trump on the golf course. Watch the exchange here.

“I played all right, to be honest,” Kane said. “Yeah, we played about 18 months ago. He invited me to play when I was down in Palm Beach, so, yeah, when the president invites you somewhere. It was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him.”

Kane added that Trump’s golf game is “pretty good to be honest with you” and said: “I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure.”

“Yeah, a unique experience,” Kane added. “But, yeah, was just grateful that he just invited me down to play, for sure.”

Trump, who turned 80 in June, has long faced accusations of cheating at golf, including from sportswriter Rick Reilly, who devoted an entire book to the subject.

Trump praised Kane on Truth Social last week, calling him “a GREAT player!!!” before later revealing the pair had played golf together.

Kane’s remarks quickly drew criticism on social media, with some calling them “beyond embarrassing” and “disappointing.”

The England captain is not the first soccer star to face backlash over an encounter with Trump.

Politics: Sports Icon Lionel Messi’s Trip To See Donald Trump Gets Kicked Around Online

Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentina’s Lionel Messi have also been criticizedin recent months following visits to the White House and photo ops with the president.

If England end up defeating Messi’s reigning champions Argentina and then go on to win the World Cup against either Spain or France, Trump will hand Kane the trophy.

A star-studded Royal Box witnessed Jannik Sinner defeat Alexander Zverev on Centre Court to successfully defend his title at the Wimbledon Championships. After receiving his trophy from the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, Sinner had the opportunity to speak with her and other members of the Royal Family, which was a daunting task for the Italian.

Inside Jannik Sinner’s Conversation with the Royal Family at Wimbledon

Sinner and Zverev treated the packed crowd on Centre Court to a thrilling spectacle during the blockbuster final, battling for three hours and 46 minutes. Despite losing the opening set, it was Sinner who emerged victorious as he delivered an incredible performance to claim a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory, winning his second consecutive Wimbledon title.

Alongside Kate Middleton and Prince William, their eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, were in attendance for the title clash. They were surrounded by several high-profile guests in the Royal Box, including Jennifer Lopez, Tom Hiddleston, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Garfield, Raye, Theo James, Lily Collins, and Daisy Edgar-Jones, among others.

Sinner acknowledged the star-studded Royal Box during his victory speech, saying it had been a privilege to compete in front of such “special” spectators throughout his campaign.

“Playing in front of very very special people throughout the whole couple of weeks. It it has been amazing and thanks for the support. You are always amazing to me and you gave me the most special feeling a tennis player can ever feel like. So, thank you so much,” he said.

After leaving the court, the five-time Grand Slam champion was spotted conversing with the members of the Royal Family, asking Prince George and Princess Charlotte about how often they played tennis.

Although Sinner also had the chance to speak with the Royal Family after winning his maiden Wimbledon title last year, he revealed during his post-match press conference that the moment felt no less nerve-wracking this time around.

“It was not easier (smiling). So much respect, so I never know where the line is. No, I think you can really see that they love the sport. This is exactly how we feel as players on court when we see them watching tennis. Staying there for four hours under the sun with the heat, it’s really nice,” Sinner said.

While Sinner confessed that he was never quite sure what was appropriate to say, he appreciated that the Royal Family took the time to talk to him and highlighted their love of tennis.

“I asked the kids if they still play. They are very happy, yes, they do. We had a very, very small conversation. But I love it. That they also take time to talk with me, it’s something really, really nice. Having the whole Royal Box there, as well, the whole people staying for a match like this for four-ish hours, it’s amazing. That’s also the reason why we love to play tennis,” he added.

Following his Wimbledon triumph, Jannik Sinner has some time to unwind before turning his attention to the North American hardcourt swing. Yet Another Coach Fired After World Cup Exit

Senegal have terminated the contract of head coach Pape Thiaw after the country's elimination in the 2026 World Cup.

The Senegalese Football Federation announced on Sunday that it had parted ways with the 45-year-old coach, who had been on the job since 2024.

"It was decided to initiate a procedure to terminate the functions of the national coach, Mr. Pape Thiaw, as well as his entire technical staff," the federation said in a news release.

"After a thorough evaluation of the sporting results and prospects of the national team, the Executive Committee deemed it necessary to initiate this procedure in the best interests of Senegalese football."

On July 1 in Seattle, Senegal lost to Belgium 3-2 in the round of 32, considered a failure by the federation. Thiaw's side held a 2-0 lead in the 86th minute, then allowed two late goals and a penalty in extra time to be eliminated.

In Group I action, Senegal defeated Iraq but lost to Norway and France. They advanced to the knockout stage as one of the eight third-place finishers, thanks to their five-goal win over Iraq.

More than 25% of the World Cup coaches have been fired or resigned since the their teams were eliminated.

In addition to Senegal, coaches from these countries are out of a job: Croatia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, South Korea, Tunisia, Scotland and Uruguay.

More departures could occur, as well.

Moment Of Tension In England's World Cup Camp After Quarter-Final Win

Like this article? Keep independent journalism alive. Support HuffPost.

There was a brief moment of tension in the aftermath of England's 2-1 World Cup quarter-final win over Norway on Saturday when Jude Bellingham pushed back against criticism from manager Thomas Tuchel.

"Yeah, well, whatever," the midfielder said after learning that Tuchel had described England's performance as "sloppy" despite their extra-time victory.

Bellingham, whose two goals sent England into the semi-finals, was quick to defend his team mates after another gruelling evening in punishing conditions.

The exchange offered a glimpse of the differing perspectives of a demanding coach unwilling to overlook flaws in England's display and a star player focused on the resilience that carried the team into the last four.

Tuchel surprised many with his blunt assessment after England battled past Norway in sweltering Miami conditions. While delighted to reach the semi-finals and full of praise for the players' mentality, the German said he was unhappy with almost every aspect of the performance.

"The result is fantastic. We are in the last four. It's amazing but I'm not happy with the performance," Tuchel said, describing England as sloppy, error-prone and fortunate to progress.

Bellingham, however, viewed events through a different lens.

The Real Madrid midfielder pointed to the draining heat and the quality of Norway's attacking threat, led by Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, suggesting the task had been tougher than Tuchel's post-match verdict implied.

"Maybe he doesn't know what it's like to play in those conditions against Erling Haaland, Odegaard, (Antonio) Nusa, (Alexander) Sorloth," Bellingham told reporters. "That's not an easy team to play against."

It is not the first time friction between the pair has become public.

Tuchel caused controversy just over a year ago when he described elements of Bellingham's on-field behaviour as potentially "repulsive" to some viewers while discussing the player's fiery temperament.

The England manager later apologised, insisting the word had been used unintentionally and that there was no hidden criticism of the midfielder.

Questions also surfaced before the World Cup over Bellingham's role after Tuchel suggested places in his starting lineup were not guaranteed, even for England's biggest names.

Yet any debate over Bellingham's importance has been emphatically settled on the pitch, as England would not be preparing for a semi-final were it not for the 23-year-old.

He has repeatedly delivered in decisive moments, rescuing his side with two goals against both Norway and Mexico, and producing the kind of performances that have underlined his status as one of the tournament's outstanding players.

And Tuchel, despite his frustration with England's overall display, was unequivocal in his praise of Bellingham after the match.

"Enough said. He does it every single match," the coach said. "World class."

England's World Cup campaign continues with a heavyweight semi-final against champions Argentina on Wednesday in Atlanta.

Successful tournament teams do not always need perfect harmony. They do, however, need players capable of deciding matches when everything else breaks down.

England have one in Bellingham, and as they move into the final four, that will matter more than any disagreement with his manager.

‘An Entirely Unforced Error’ — Pelicans Make Baffling $3 Million Mistake In Re-Signing of Former NBA All-Star

An NBA analyst questions the Pelicans' costly $3 million decision involving the re-signing of a former NBA All-Star.
An NBA analyst questions the Pelicans' costly $3 million decision involving the re-signing of a former NBA All-Star.

The New Orleans Pelicans reportedly re-signed veteran big man DeAndre Jordan to a two-year, guaranteed $7.9 million deal. Jordan returns for two more years after spending this past season with the team.

Right after the deal was announced, an NBA analyst questioned the decision, which cost the Pelicans $3 million more.

Pelicans’ Re-Signing of Former NBA All-Star Draws Sharp Criticism Over $3 Million Error

The Pelicans’ decision to give the former All-Star center a two-year guaranteed deal was met with sharp criticism from Austin Robert, who tweeted:

“I was informed by someone in the league that the NBA prorate of vet min. Deals only applies to 1-year deals. So the Pelicans will be paying the entire $7.9M. ‘His comment was, ‘I don’t think they understood the rule,’ referring to Joe Dumars.'”

Robert continued: “All they had to do was sign DJ to two separate 1-year deals. This is an entirely unforced error. I’m pretty baffled how this happened.”

The NBA analyst pointed out what the mistake cost the Pelicans.

“Someone should REALLY point out to Gayle that Dumars cost her an addition $3M that the league would have paid if he understood the CBA,” Robert wrote.

Jordan, heading into his 19th season in the NBA, was eligible for $3,876,529, but only $2,449,421 would be on the Pelicans’ payroll.

The league would have covered the difference had he been signed to a one-year deal. By giving him two years, he goes to the Pelicans’ books for the entire duration of the contract.

This past season, the former Los Angeles Clippers center played just 12 games, seven of them as a starter, averaging 4.4 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Despite his limited production, he was considered a crucial locker room voice and a mentor to emerging star Derik Queen, the Pelicans’ 2025 lottery pick.

The Pelicans wanted to keep Jordan around Queen and the other young players, and to also add frontcourt depth. After the team declined Kevon Looney’s $8 million team option, New Orleans needed another big man behind Queen, Yves Missi, and Zion Williamson. Jordan also brings championship DNA, having won one with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.

Jordan, who said multiple times in the past that he wanted to reach two decades in the NBA, will get that with his newly signed deal.

Following a disappointing second-round loss at the French Open, Jannik Sinner bounced back in spectacular fashion at Wimbledon, successfully defending his title by triumphing over Alexander Zverev in a thrilling final.

The world No. 1 received an outpouring of praise from the tennis world after his impressive victory, with Coco Gauff and Martina Navratilova joining stars across the sporting community in extending their congratulations.

How Coco Gauff, Martina Navratilova, and Others Reacted to Jannik Sinner’s Wimbledon Triumph

Sinner made an alarming start to his campaign at the grass-court Major, needing five sets to overcome Miomir Kecmanović in the first round. However, the Italian quickly silenced the doubts about his form by reaching the semifinals without dropping a set. He then delivered arguably his best performance of the tournament against Novak Djokovic, beating the Serb 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to book a place in the final.

Battling Zverev in the title clash, Sinner narrowly lost the opening set in a tiebreak. However, he then seized control by combating Zverev’s powerful serve and aggressive baseline play, rallying to a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 victory. In doing so, the 24-year-old secured his second consecutive Wimbledon title and his fifth Grand Slam title overall.

The Italian was showered with love from his fellow tennis players after his stellar triumph, with Coco Gauff among the first to send him a congratulatory message in the comments of his Instagram post.

Gauff herself made a promising run at the grass-court Major, reaching the semifinals before falling short against eventual runner-up Karolína Muchová.

“congratulations 🎊,” Gauff wrote.

Iva Jovic, Jakub Menšík, and Holger Rune shared heartfelt reactions to the 24-year-old’s triumph, while Serena Williams’ assistant coach Rennae Stubbs chimed in with an amusing tribute.

“BIG congrats 👏👏,” Jovic commented.

“Back to back 🦊🇮🇹🏆💪,” Menšík said.

“Congratulations man 💪🏽🏆,” Rune commented.

“Yesssss Jan!!! It must have been the back to back birdies!!! 😂🙌🙌,” Stubbs wrote.

Fellow Italian tennis stars Jasmine Paolini and Luciano Darderi also cheered on their compatriot.

Speaking on the Tennis Channel, Martina Navratilova applauded the world No. 1 for showcasing his champion’s mindset by improving his level of play with every match at SW19.

“He played better and better as he needed to as the opponents got better and played his best tennis against Novak and even better against Sascha Zverev today. And that’s what champions do,” she said.

Sinner’s Wimbledon triumph also caught the attention of the wider sporting world. Skiing legends Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin, soccer star Jude Bellingham, and Formula 1 drivers Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc all expressed their admiration for the Italian.

“Jannnnnnnnnik!!!!!! 🏆💪🏻 @janniksin @Wimbledon,” Vonn posted on X.

“wow 🤯…@janniksin 🏆,” Shiffrin commented.

“Congrats 👏👏,” Piastri wrote.

“Machine. 🦾,” Bellingham posted.

“Grandissimoooo! 🔥,” Leclerc said.

Furthermore, Carlos Alcaraz, who has been sidelined since April due to a wrist injury, sent a touching message to Sinner and his team after his arch-rival’s remarkable display.

After two weeks of captivating action at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships, Jannik Sinner and Linda Nosková emerged as the singles champions, clinching the coveted trophies at the grass-court Major. Keeping alive one of Wimbledon’s iconic traditions, the players took to the stage at the Champions’ Ball and shared the customary winners’ dance in elegant attire.

No. 9 seed Nosková made a major career breakthrough by producing an impressive campaign at Wimbledon, beating Ella Seidel, Camila Osorio, Sorana Cîrstea, Madison Keys, and Elise Mertens to reach her first Grand Slam semifinal. She then defeated Marta Kostyuk 6-4, 6-4 to set up an all-Czech final with No. 10 seed Karolína Muchová at SW19.

The 21-year-old faced a crushing setback after dominating the opening set of the title clash, as she let slip five championship points in the second set. However, she regrouped quickly and secured a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Muchová to clinch her maiden Grand Slam title.

Sinner, meanwhile, survived a tough five-set battle against Miomir Kecmanović in his opening match before notching dominant straight-set wins over Nuno Borges, Jenson Brooksby, Shintaro Mochizuki, and Jan-Lennard Struff. The Italian delivered a commanding performance against Novak Djokovic during their blockbuster semifinal showdown, cruising to a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.

Taking on No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev in the final, Sinner bounced back impressively after losing the first set and went on to clinch a 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4 win to successfully defend his Wimbledon title and claim his first Major of the season.

Just hours after lifting the trophy, Sinner arrived at the Wimbledon Champions’ Ball looking sharp in a classic black tuxedo.

During the celebrations, Sinner took the stage alongside Nosková, who turned heads in an elegant black dress. The duo delighted guests by performing the traditional champions’ dance to Justin Timberlake’s upbeat hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” in heartwarming scenes.

It was a familiar moment for Sinner, who previously danced with Iga Świątek at last year’s event. Speaking to the BBC at the time, the Italian revealed that, though they had been given the option to skip the dance due to the late hour, he was glad that Świątek convinced him to participate in the tradition.

“Yes, I mean, we were there and in the beginning they told us that we, because it was quite late, that we don’t have to do it. And then Iga told me, ‘No, no, let’s do it.’ I was like, ‘Okay.’ It’s tradition, so it’s good to make that happen. And yeah, it was nice to share this moment with Iga and it’s, yeah, a beautiful moment,” he said.

Jannik Sinner and Linda Nosková will both enjoy a well-deserved break before turning their attention to the North American hardcourt swing. Both players are expected to return to action at the Canadian Open, scheduled to commence on August 2. While Sinner will be in action at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal, Nosková will battle for the WTA 1000 trophy in Toronto.

Stefon Diggs Sends Bold Free Agency Pitch To All NFL Teams After Productive Season With Patriots

Stefon Diggs Sends Bold Free Agency Pitch To All NFL Teams After Productive Season With Patriots

NFL free agency kicked off back in March, yet arguably one of the group’s best players still hasn’t found a team for the 2026 season. That player is Stefon Diggs, who’s set to turn 33 in November, yet is coming off his seventh 1,000-yard season in the past eight years.

The four-time Pro Bowler has been one of the NFL’s most productive, yet, for whatever reason, still hasn’t learned where he’ll be playing football for what will be his 12th season. It clearly isn’t because he’s pondering retirement.

Stefon Diggs Says He’s the NFL’s ‘Best No. 2 Receiver’

Diggs definitely isn’t thinking about retirement. He’s made that obvious. If anything, he’s reminding everyone just how great he can be.

While he’s seemingly given up claims of being a No. 1 go-to option on any team he joins, the one-time First-Team All-Pro receiver recently stated in his YouTube channel video that no one can “name a No. 2 better than me.”

“My opinion, I can compete with anybody,” Diggs said. “But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can’t name a No. 2 better than me.”

Yet, he also did seem to make a note about money while comparing himself to other No. 2 receivers around the league.

BE THE GM OF YOUR FAVORITE TEAM:PFN’s FREE NFL Mock Draft Simulator

“There’s not a No. 2 on a team — let’s presumably give people the credit and just say, ‘OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away,'” he said. “Name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes, and then my last question is: Is he better than me?”

Maybe Diggs just hasn’t gotten the contract offers he’s looking for after signing a robust three-year, $63.5 million contract with the New England Patriots last offseason. Of course, that deal got ripped up after one season, which is why he’s now a free agent again.

REDRAFT THE ENTIRE NFL:PFN’s FREE NFL Ultimate Redraft Simulator

Still, aside from when he tore his ACL with the Houston Texans after just eight games in 2024, Diggs has recorded a 1,000-yard season each year dating back to 2018. That type of production shouldn’t come cheaply.

It’s also the type of reliability that should have NFL teams pestering Diggs’ phone, wondering what it will take to add him to their receiver room.

Exactly why he hasn’t found a new team yet is anyone’s guess. There sure are a lot of teams that could use Diggs, such as the Kansas City Chiefs or Washington Commanders, both of whom could welcome him as their new No. 2 receiver.

While Diggs may not have a contract for the upcoming season quite yet, he likely won’t be without a job for much longer. Some NFL training camps kick off in late July, and teams will want their offenses to be ready to roll.

‘Lasted Longer In the Ring Than (Conor) McGregor’ – WNBA World Reacts to Sophie Cunningham’s Appearance at UFC329

With her Sports Illustrated appearance and viral pointing meme, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham has been everywhere lately.

She was seen Saturday night again, at the UFC 329 event.

The WNBA World Reacts as Sophie Cunningham Attends Conor McGregor’s UCF Return

Cunningham was the ring girl for the bout between Paddy Pimblett and Benoit Saint-Denis, where the Englishman walked away with a win by submission. Pimblett only took 52 seconds to prove his worth on the night.

Cunningham also posed for a picture with Max Holloway, where the pair hit their famous celebrations. Holloway was also declared the winner after Conor McGregor walked away with an injury.

McGregor immediately injured his knee going for a kick and was defeated by Holloway just over a minute into the fight.

Being that McGregor is one of the sport’s all-time most popular fighters, and it was his first fight in over five years, it was a star-studded event. Cunningham was in attendance, even serving as a ring girl at one point.

Between the nonstop talk around Fever star Caitlin Clark and some early up-and-down play in Indiana, Cunningham was probably just happy to be away from the basketball world for a night.

The WNBA world had plenty to say about Cunningham’s appearance. Some came after McGregor, joking that Cunningham was in the ring longer than the former champ.

“Sophie Cunningham lasted longer in the ring than McGregor man,” HoosierSpeaker posted on X.

Veteran football writer Scott Kacsmar had the same thought. “She lasted in the ring longer than McGregor,” Kacsmar said.

Barstool Sports had a video of Cunningham’s appearance as a ring girl. It was as if everyone was equally surprised to see Cunningham complete a random side quest.

UCF President and CEO Dana White was asked when he hired Cunningham as a ring girl.

“About eight minutes before she did it,” White said, via Rosalina Lee. “I love Sophie Cunningham. We’ve created a relationship and she was here tonight. When she walked in, she goes I wanna walk around and I said then you’re going to walk around it. She’s fun.”

Some fans believe this official cements Cunningham as a mainstream celebrity.

“Yea man, Sophie Cunningham has officially arrived into the mainstream,” Ben Daniel of the Ben Daniel Podcast said.

It’s hard to argue with that right now. It isn’t just happening off the court for Cunningham. She is averaging 9.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 22.7 minutes per game with impressive shooting numbers. She’s shooting 47.2% from the field and 40.0% from three.

The Fever will return to action Sunday night when they take on the Las Vegas Ace. The game tips at 9:00 p.m. ET and can be seen on NBC and Peacock.

Ex-Panthers AGM Predicts Sunny Mehta’s Next Move in New Jersey

Ex-Panthers AGM Predicts Sunny Mehta’s Next Move in New Jersey
Ex-Panthers AGM Predicts Sunny Mehta’s Next Move in New Jersey

Sunny Mehta wasted little time putting his own stamp on the New Jersey Devils, turning an offseason filled with difficult decisions into one centered on flexibility and opportunity. Instead of chasing quick fixes, the new general manager has reshaped the roster, created financial breathing room, and stocked the organization with valuable future assets.

These moves have shifted the conversation from what New Jersey had to fix to what it can afford to do next.

Steve Werier Predicts Sunny Mehta’s Next Move in New Jersey

Former Florida Panthers assistant general manager Steve Werier sees Mehta’s biggest accomplishment as something that won’t show up on a scoresheet.

During an appearance on The Sheet with Jeff Marek, Werier explained that Mehta has quietly built a roster with enough flexibility to attack the market from multiple directions instead of forcing a single path.

Looking at the Devils’ offseason, Werier praised the work already completed before speculating about what could come next.

“I think he has options, which is the big win for him, right? He was able to get out from the Markstrom contract without having to open up that second buyout window and buy him out. He signed Rytsiak to an easily manageable number on a bridge deal. He brought in some draft picks for Simon Nemec without committing cap space there, which I think is a smart move.”

These moves fundamentally changed New Jersey’s outlook. By moving Jacob Markstrom’s $6 million AAV contract without retaining salary or resorting to a buyout, Mehta cleared a major financial obstacle while preserving flexibility.

He also secured a team-friendly bridge contract for Arseny Gritsyuk and converted Simon Nemec into premium draft capital, strengthening both the organization’s present and future. But one of his biggest accomplishments has been signing an extension for captain Nico Hischier to a 5-year, $11.7 million AAV contract, which would start in 2027-28.

The Devils now sit with $7,627,500 in available cap space while carrying a full 23-man roster, leaving Mehta free to pursue impact additions rather than spending resources on depth signings.

This flexibility is there because Utah matched New Jersey’s one-year, $4.775 million offer sheet for Barrett Hayton, instantly returning that money to the Devils’ salary cap.

With extra draft picks and healthy cap space, New Jersey has positioned itself to explore several avenues, including adding a top-six forward, pursuing another high-profile trade, or reinforcing its goaltending group. The organization has enough financial room to remain patient instead of reacting to every opportunity that surfaces during the offseason.

Werier believes that patience is exactly what makes the Devils dangerous.

“And so now, the best thing I’d say about Sunny’s position is, who knows? But he has options. He has cap space, he has picks, and I don’t know where he’ll go with it. But he’s a poker player. He’s got a lot of outs, and I bet he uses some.”

The comparison fits Mehta’s background as a former professional poker player, where success often comes from staying disciplined until the right opportunity presents itself. Rather than cornering himself with expensive commitments, he has built a position of strength that allows the Devils to respond when the market shifts.

Whether that next move comes through a blockbuster trade, free agency, or another creative roster maneuver, Werier believes Mehta has already accomplished the most important objective. He has given New Jersey options, and in today’s NHL, that may be the franchise’s biggest advantage.
