Huawei’s HarmonyOS 6 is picking up serious momentum. Just weeks after the company’s Developer Conference (HDC 2026), independent data shows the operating system has now crossed a major milestone.

According to data from Wonder Toolbox, HarmonyOS 6 is now installed on over 70 million devices, sitting at approximately 70.1 million. That’s a fast jump from the 66 million Yu Chengdong (Huawei’s Executive Director and Terminal BG Chairman) mentioned at the conference on June 12.

At the same event, Yu also shared that the wider open-source HarmonyOS ecosystem has now surpassed 1.3 billion devices. This includes not just phones and tablets, but also PCs, wearables, smart home devices, cars, and IoT products, showing how Huawei is pushing the OS across many different categories.

This growth is a big deal for Huawei. After facing US sanctions that cut off access to Google services, the company has been working hard to build its own independent software path. HarmonyOS has evolved a lot, especially with recent versions like HarmonyOS Next that moved away from Android compatibility toward a fully self-developed architecture. At HDC 2026, they even gave a first look at HarmonyOS 7, which focuses heavily on AI, agent-based intelligence, and spatial computing.

The numbers are impressive. Earlier in 2026, HarmonyOS 5 and 6 together were approaching tens of millions of devices, with a goal of hitting over 100 million by the end of the year. Analysts point to strong user satisfaction, a growing developer community, and an expanding app ecosystem as key reasons for the rapid adoption. In China, it’s become the country’s second-largest smartphone OS by some important metrics.

A big part of this success comes from Huawei’s tight integration between hardware and software. While most of the growth is still happening in China, Huawei has hinted at expanding availability and app support overseas. Overall, the latest 70 million figure for HarmonyOS 6 is a strong sign that Huawei’s software efforts are paying off.
