Some Samsung Galaxy users are getting confused after they noticed that their photos and videos suddenly started uploading to OneDrive. This issue appeared even though they believed all syncing was turned off. 

The issue seems connected to a big change coming from Samsung and Microsoft. Microsoft has confirmed that Samsung Gallery sync with OneDrive will completely stop working on September 30, 2026. Due to this, users are being moved to a different system, OneDrive Camera backup. The problem is that many users say this new backup feature appears to be turning on by itself.

People on Reddit and Samsung forums shared (via PiunikaWeb) similar issues. Some users said they had disabled photo syncing a long time ago, but OneDrive still uploaded all their pictures overnight. Others checked the OneDrive app and found that Camera backup was switched on without them doing it manually.

Samsung Gallery and OneDrive Breakup

The confusion happens because Samsung Gallery sync and OneDrive Camera backup are not the same thing. Even if Gallery sync is turned off in Samsung settings, OneDrive’s own backup option inside the OneDrive app can still upload photos.

Microsoft says users must manually enable Camera backup if they want automatic uploads after 2026. But many users believe updates, notifications, or migration prompts may be turning the feature back on without clearly warning them.

If you do not want your photos uploaded to OneDrive, the quickest thing to do is open the OneDrive app and check the Camera backup setting yourself. If it is on, turn it off. You should also check app permissions on your phone and remove the connection between your Samsung and Microsoft accounts if you no longer use cloud backup.
