Goalkeeper Berger to continue German national team career
Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger has decided to continue her career in the German women's national team, the German Football Federation (DFB) said on Thursday.
Berger, 35, had left her future in the team open after Euro 2025 in summer and the recent Nations League final Germany lost against Spain, partly because of stressful travel from her American club Gotham FC to Germany matches.
The DFB said that Berger has now informed coach Christian WΓΌck and goalkeeper coach Michael Fuchs that she will continue.
The next big event is the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
Twice German women's Footballer of the Year Berger only became first choice in the national team last year and has 29 caps.
She helped Germany won Olympic bronze at the Paris 2024 Games, saving a late penalty against Spain in the bronze medal match.
At the Euros this year, she made a save for the ages in the quarter-final against France before more heroics in the penalty shoot-out of that match.
