Celtics 110, Mavs 100: Cooper Flagg’s 36 points not enough in loss

Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown sprinted past Mavs center Daniel Gafford, then stopped on a dime when help arrived and knocked down a midrange jumper.

Later, in a fast-break situation late in the fourth quarter, Brown finished a layup with Cooper Flagg trailing.

No one could stay in front of the All-Star β€” and there was a reason.

Boston ranks ninth in the NBA in 3-point percentage (36.7 percent) despite playing this season without former All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum, who is sidelined with a ruptured Achilles.

Brown leaned into his strengths as a slasher, taking advantage of the spacing created by Boston’s perimeter shooting. With defenders unable to help off their assignments, he repeatedly attacked the basket. When Dallas cut off the drive, Brown countered with pull-up midrange jumpers.

Brown has been one of the league’s most productive scorers this season, averaging 29.4 points per game, fourth in the NBA.

He finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds to lead Boston to a 110-100 win over Dallas at the American Airlines Center.
