Former USC WR Ja’Kobi Lane Calls Out 3-Star Recruit With Shocking Allegation

USC Trojans wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane (8) participates in pregame warmups against the Washington Huskies at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium on Nov 2, 2024.

Former USC star wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane did not hold back when calling out a three-star recruit on social media on Monday. Lane accused three-star recruit Brawley Tuitupou of stealing his cleats and other Trojans’ gear from the USC locker room while on a visit with the program.

Lane posted a photo, which seemed to be originally taken by Tuitupou five weeks ago, of a collection of USC gear that was allegedly stolen from the locker room. The photo included eight pairs of receiver gloves, three pairs of cleats, four towels, a USC jacket and shorts.

“This kid stole my cleats and a bunch of stuff from the sc locker room. All yall kids out there just know this is simply unacceptable,” Lane wrote on social media.

It is possible that USC gifted Tuitupou some gear during his visit. Some recruits even have full photoshoots in the program’s uniform. However, the amount of gear Tuitupou had collected along with Lane’s accusations make the Tuitupou seem more suspicious.

Who Is Tuitupou?

Tuitupou is a junior receiver and safety at Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah and stands at 6-foot-4 and 175 pounds. He has 25 scholarship offers, according to his 247Sports profile.

USC is not one of the 25 programs that have offered Tuitupou a scholarship. Lane’s recent accusations could influence whether the Trojans decide to extend an offer to Tuitupou.

Among the 25 teams that have offered Tuitupou a scholarship are College Football Playoff semifinalist Ole Miss and four Big Ten conference teams: Penn State, Maryland, Iowa and Purdue.

What’s Next For Lane?

Regardless of if Lane’s accusations impact USC’s recruiting of Tuitupou, the pair will not play together at USC.

Lane declared for the 2026 NFL Draft and will participate in the NFL Combine. While former USC wide receiver Makai Lemon is a clear first-round pick, Lane is projected to be drafted around the second or third round. His performance at the combine will influence which team decides to pick him up for next season.
