Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy S26 with 5 standout features

Qualcomm has now officially announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chipset that powers the Galaxy S26 Ultra worldwide. The chip designer shed light on the product specifications and standout features.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy is built around Qualcomm’s 3rd-generation Oryon CPU. Qualcomm claims it is the fastest mobile CPU in the world and early performance scores justify what the company claims.

The upgraded Hexagon NPU handles on-device AI tasks, meaning personalization, image processing, and contextual features happen locally.

  1. Nightography video
    • Nightography video on the S26 Ultra automatically adapts to complex lighting.
  2. Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec
    • It allows users to shoot in conditions that previously crushed detail, especially under low light, and retain far more data for editing.
  3. Photo Assist with on-device AI
    • Photo Assist is powered by the upgraded Hexagon NPU. You can remove background distractions, reframe shots, restore details, or apply stylistic changes in seconds.
  4. Smooth gameplay
    • The chip introduces Qualcomm Adreno High Performance Memory, feeding the GPU faster and more efficiently.
  5. Integrated Ultra Wideband (UWB)
    • With integrated UWB in the Snapdragon, the S26 series can enable secure, touchless transit payments and precise device location.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is not just another annual refresh. With the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, Samsung is stacking performance, AI, camera capability, gaming power, and connectivity into one tightly integrated package.

Samsung Galaxy S26 and S26+ use Exynos 2600 in several markets

Galaxy S26 series doesn’t bring one chip worldwide as Samsung revived dual chip strategy this year, bringing Exynos and Snapdragon.

Despite being Samsung’s in-house, and technically advanced processor, Exynos 2600 lags behind the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The new Exynos, made using a 2nm process, powers nearly 25 percent of all units.

At Unpacked, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S26 and S26+ run the Exynos 2600 processor in several countries. Galaxy S26 Ultra launched with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset around the world.

Galaxy S26 and S26+ also come with Snapdragon SoC in select markets, including the US, China, and Japan. Samsung usually launches Snapdragon variants in Canada, so the Galaxy S26 may follow the suite this year.

In the rest of the world, the Galaxy S26 and S26+ will bring the Exynos chip. It includes a larger portion of the world, containing the entire European region and India.

Exynos 2600 appears to be a competitive chip, yet if you can’t settle for it, Galaxy S26 Ultra remains the only option. If you’re OK with Samsung’s chip decision, preorders are open, offering decent benefits to early buyers.

The Ultra tier stays unified on Snapdragon globally. That decision alone suggests Samsung views the Ultra customer as one who demands the most consistent, highest-performing experience regardless of geography.
