Seattle Seahawks make a decision at running back

The NFL’s new league year is approaching, and teams are looking to lock down key expiring contracts. Without a new deal in place, those players can hit the open market.

The Seattle Seahawks have been aiming to make key decisions at running back. With Kenneth Walker III set to hit free agency, they need to act quickly.

It appears they will be retaining a key backfield member. On Monday, reports indicated that the Seahawks tendered George Holani ahead of free agency.

While this won’t have a major impact on negotiations, it at least provides insurance in the event Walker departs in free agency. Holani took over in rotation after Zach Charbonnet suffered a season-ending injury.

Holani was more of a third-down type of back–similar to the role Charbonnet played. He aimed to be a safety valve for Sam Darnold and also a pass-pro back.

His efforts were rewarded with a tender that will keep him with the Seahawks at least through 2026. He could see an increased role depending on how Seattle’s plans shake out.

Holani came to the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State. He appeared in 11 regular-season games and two postseason contests.
