The 2026 USL Championship season features a two-conference alignment consisting of 25 teams: 13 in the Eastern Conference and 12 in the Western Conference. Each club competes in a 34-match schedule, which includes 30 regular season league games and four group-stage matches in the Prinx Tires USL Cup.
To maintain regional rivalries, teams play their own conference opponents twice (once at home and once away). The remainder of the league schedule is filled by five or six inter-conference matchups against select teams from the opposite side of the bracket.
At the end of the 30-game regular season, the top eight teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs. The postseason follows a fixed-bracket, single-elimination format, culminating in the USL Championship Final to determine the league title.
Broadcast information
Ahead of the 2024 USL Championship season, the broadcasters in the United States for the league changed. ESPN, which had the rights previously, was still a regular for games. ESPN+ had games, with ESPN and ESPN2 also occasionally showing contests.
However, as part of the change, CBS got in on the action. That change meant games were available on TV channels like CBS, CBS Sports Network and the CBS Sports Golazo Network. Coverage was also available on Paramount+.
