Caleb Williams was suspiciously happy the Ravens pivoted to Trey Hendrickson after failed Maxx Crosby trade
The Baltimore Ravens’ failed trade for Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby sent shockwaves through the NFL. While the rest of the league and its executives scrambled to process the news, one prominent NFL player made his feelings on the matter very clear.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was happy to see the Ravens immediately pivot to Trey Hendrickson in the hours after the team backed out of the Crosby trade. Williams made that clear by dropping a smiling emoji on an Instagram post in which the NFL announced the Hendrickson signing.

While the Bears haven’t been mentioned in rumors for Crosby, the team is in desperate need of an elite pass rusher. The team is well-aware that Crosby fits that mold. His statistics speak loudly, but the Bears got to see Crosby’s game-wrecking ability in action when the two teams met last season. Crosby did not record a sack in that contest, but accounted for five tackles, including three tackles for loss, a quarterback hit, an interception and three passes defended. He singlehandedly blew up multiple Bears drives early in the contest.
The Bears went on to win that game 25-24, but needed a late field-goal block to get the job done.
Williams’ emoji response also raised eyebrows after he appeared on Crosby’s podcast back in February. The two had strong chemistry and a lot of mutual respect for each other.
None of this means the Bears are suddenly going to pull off a trade for Crosby, of course. Even if that’s truly what Williams desires, he’s not the team’s general manager. It’s going to take a willingness from Ryan Poles and Raiders general manager John Spytek to come to an agreement if Crosby is going to wind up in Chicago.
The Bears still seem well-equipped to make the addition. While pass rusher was a major need for Chicago entering free agency, the team did not address the position during the first couple days of free agency.
The Bears may have missed out on Crosby the first time around, but the team now has another shot to take that plunge. At least one current Bears player would be fully supportive of the move if it happens.
