Nagelsmann delivers brutal Leeds reality check in shock Germany call-up reveal

Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach has been called up for the German national team for the upcoming international break.

The 27-year-old midfielder has done quite well for the English club, and he will return to the German squad four years after his last appearance with them.

Manager Julian Nagelsmann has now explained that the team needed a defensive midfielder with a different profile, and therefore wanted to give him the opportunity to showcase his quality.

Nagelsmann added that Stach plays for a club with an underdog mentality, as Leeds are not expected to win many matches in the Premier League, and he is looking forward to seeing how the 27-year-old performs for the German national team, where the pressure to win is a lot higher.

Nagelsmann said (h/t Leeds Press): β€œWe wanted a No. 6 with a different profile. His journey has been from a No. 6 to a No. 4 and then up to a No. 8.

β€œStach hasn’t had a chance to prove himself with us yet. He’s playing with Leeds. Unlike Leon (Goretzka) with Bayern and even Robert (Andrich) with Leverkusen, Leeds aren’t favoured to win many matches in the Premier League. We want to see how he can give to us with (this underdog mentality).

β€œHe was very happy (with the call-up). He was euphoric upon receiving the call and will see if he can bring this euphoria with him this week. It meant a lot to him that he was valued. We’ll see if he can slip in and compete with a few of the other players I’ve mentioned.”

His comments might not go down well with the Leeds United fans. However, this is a golden opportunity for Stach to prove himself with the German national team, and it will be interesting to see if he can book his place in the World Cup squad by impressing during the international break.
