USC women’s basketball star guard Jazzy Davidson was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association’s National Freshman of the Year on Wednesday. She joins superstar JuJu Watkins as the second player in program history to win the award.

Davidson signed with the Trojans expecting to work alongside Watkins this season. But after Watkins tore her ACL in the NCAA Tournament in 2025, Davidson stepped up for USC as the team’s best player in her debut college season.

In addition to winning National Freshman Player of the Year, Davidson was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, an Honorable Mention All-American, a First-Team All-Big Ten selection, a Big Ten All-Defensive Team selection and a Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection. She was also named the National Freshman of the Year by The Athletic.

USC Is Getting Even Stronger Next Season

Davidson will be a big part of USC’s core next season. She will be joined by Watkins, who will be returning from an ACL tear that caused her to miss the entire 2025-26 season.

The Trojans also secured the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class of 2026. Five-star recruits like Saniyah Hall, Sara Oseke and Satiya Fagan have announced their commitments to USC and will be strong additions to the squad next season.

USC lost to No. 1 seed South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday. But the Trojans will be back next season with a fully reinforced team.
