Hall of Famer Wade Boggs sends admonishing message to Tiger Woods

When golfer Tiger Woods was arrested for suspicion of DUI after a rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday, March 27, one Baseball Hall of Famer took notice.

Wade Boggs, whose 18-year career in MLB resulted in a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame, had an admonishing message for Woods: “My Mom got killed by a drunk driver,” Boggs wrote on his X account March 27. “I hope you wake up Mr Woods.”

Sue Nell Graham was 61 when she died in 1986, at the peak of her son’s career with the Boston Red Sox. She was a pilot in the Army, and later a flight instructor.

Of all the sports celebrities with a take on Woods’ latest automobile accident (his SUV rolled over after a single-car crash in 2021), Boggs’ might hit the closest to home.

Neither Woods, nor the other driver involved in his latest crash, were injured in the accident.

“According to a source at Martin County Fire Rescue, it was a two-car crash, [and] one vehicle was a rollover,” WPEC CBS12 News’ Skyler Shepard reported. “One person is stable, while another refused to go to the hospital. MCFR said there are no injuries to anyone.”

Early in the morning of Nov. 27, 2009, Woods crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and a tree outside of his home near Orlando. Woods was found to be at fault, but did not face charges beyond a traffic citation for careless driving, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
