After hitting a home run against the Philadelphia Phillies on March 29, Texas Rangers outfielder Andrew McCutchen engaged in a hilarious exchange with a fan at Citizens Bank Park.

Fortunately, the audio of the exchange was captured by a live mic and shared on MLB’s official X account.

“You gotta be kidding me! Cutch, you gotta be kidding me!” a male voice exclaims.

“I’m sorry,” McCutchen replies, shrugging his shoulders as he turned toward the seats behind home plate.

To be fair, it’s possible that any team could have signed McCutchen for the 2026 season before the relatively late date of March 6, after spring training camps had already opened.

The Rangers took a flier on the five-time All-Star (2011-15), signing him to a minor league contract with a spring training invitation. They have to be feeling good about the decision.

After hitting a home run and a double in the Rangers’ game against the Phillies, McCutchen had a .500 batting average (4 for 8) to begin the season. It’s a small sample, but it suggests the 39-year-old outfielder has plenty of hits left in his bat.

McCutchen entered the season with 2,266 hits in his 17-year MLB career — including two seasons (2019-21) in Philadelphia.
