“Everything” has been “agreed” for Liverpool transfer target as release clause details revealed
Liverpool reportedly look set to miss out on the transfer of Nico Schlotterbeck for the time being, but that may not be the end of the story.
According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Borussia Dortmund have everything agreed for a new contract for Schlotterbeck until 2031.

As reported in Plettenberg’s post on X below, this new deal would make the Germany international Dortmund’s highest earner, though it would apparently also include a new release clause active from summer 2027, which could still give Liverpool some hope of a deal in the future, even if they’re not currently in the race…

Nico Schlotterbeck could’ve been a superb signing for Liverpool
Schlotterbeck has impressed a great deal during his time at Dortmund, and it’s fair to say he could really have improved this Liverpool defence.
The links with the Reds have come from multiple sources for a while now, and Bild also claimed a few months back that it looked like the 26-year-old was not keen on signing a new contract with Dortmund.
This would have been a great opportunity for LFC to bring in a long-term successor to the ageing Virgil van Dijk, while there might also be a gap to plug this summer if Ibrahima Konate doesn’t sign a new contract and leaves as a free agent.
BVB have done well to secure Schlotterbeck’s future amid interest from other big clubs, with Plettenberg also mentioning Real Madrid as someone now out of the race.
