Curry scores 17 points with two 4-point plays in second game back from injury, Warriors beat Kings

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” Stephen Curry scored 17 points with a pair of four-point plays in his second game back from a right knee injury, and the Golden State Warriors held off the Sacramento Kings 110-105 on Tuesday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

Curry, who missed 27 games before returning Sunday, tied the game at 104 on a 3-pointer with 2:38 remaining, then dished to Brandin Podziemski for a go-ahead 3 the next possession.

Kings 7-foot-1 rookie Maxime Raynaud had 17 points and eight rebounds playing on his 23rd birthday. Killian Hayes scored 18 points off the bench as Sacramento lost for the sixth time in eight games.

De'Anthony Melton had 21 points and Podziemski scored 20 for Golden State.

Curry came off the bench for the second straight game after missing more than two months with a right knee injury and shot 5 for 12 β€” including a four-point play at the 3:58 mark of the second quarter and another 2:39 before halftime that put the Warriors ahead 60-44.

He entered the game to cheers at the 6:24 mark of the opening quarter and immediately passed off for an assist to Charles Bassey β€” just as he did Sunday when Bassey signed β€” on offense before blocking a shot on the defensive end moments later.

There’s a chance Curry could be starting again Thursday against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

In Sunday’s 117-116 loss to Houston, Curry dazzled down the stretch to score 29 points on 11-for-21 shooting in 26 minutes in his first action since Jan. 30 against Detroit.

The Warriors were all but locked into the No. 10 seed in the Western Conference for the play-in tournament next week.

Warriors rookie Will Richard was a late scratch because of a back injury and Pat Spencer moved into the starting lineup β€” the 40th different one used by Golden State this season.

Alec Bohm and Bryce Harper lead rally in 7th as Phillies come back to beat Giants 6-4

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” Alec Bohm hit a go-ahead double in the seventh inning after Bryce Harper's two-run single tied it, and the Philadelphia Phillies rallied past the struggling San Francisco Giants for a 6-4 win Monday night.

Jonathan Bowlan (1-0) pitched the sixth for the win, receiving another run of support on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Marsh in the decisive inning.

Giants right-hander Adrian Houser looked strong pitching into the seventh in his home debut before Justin Crawford's leadoff single got the Phillies going on the way to their fifth victory in six games. Ryan Borucki (0-1) relieved and took the loss.

Matt Chapman hit a two-run triple in the third, one night after his baserunning blunder cost San Francisco, and Heliot Ramos added an RBI single against Phillies rookie Andrew Painter. Luis Arraez contributed a sacrifice fly in the fourth, but the Giants couldn't protect a four-run lead.

Painter was tagged for four runs and nine hits over four innings in his second career start after a memorable major league debut March 31, when the 22-year-old right-hander struck out eight with one walk and allowed only one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings to beat Washington.

Jhoan Duran, Philadelphia's sixth pitcher, allowed a two-out double to Willy Adames in the ninth before finishing for his fourth save.

The Giants have lost four straight and five of six. San Francisco’s 3-8 record is its worst start since 2019.

Coming into Monday, the Giants had been outscored by 25 runs β€” the worst mark through 10 games for the franchise since it was minus-49 in 1896. Their won-loss record was tied for the team's second-worst through 10 games since moving to San Francisco in 1958 β€” the Giants began 2-8 in 1983.

Kevin Durant, Rockets spoil Stephen Curry's return from injury, beat Warriors 117-116

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) β€” Alperen Sengun made the go-ahead layup with 11 seconds left on a pass from Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets held off Stephen Curry in his return after being sidelined more than two months for a 117-116 victory Sunday night.

Curry missed a long, straightaway 3-pointer in the final seconds.

Gary Payton II scored the go-ahead basket on a goaltend by Amen Thompson with 20 seconds left, but Durant took charge on the other end. He finished with 31 points, eight rebounds and eight assists against his former team, making a crucial 3-pointer with 2:10 remaining.

But he missed with 38 seconds left, and Draymond Green found a cutting Payton in the key.

Curry dazzled down the stretch to score 29 points on 11-for-21 shooting in 26 minutes after missing 27 straight games because of a right knee injury β€” his first action since Jan. 30 against Detroit.

Curry's driving layup made it a one-point game with 1:27 left then Sengun converted a three-point play moments later only for Curry to hit a 3 on the other end.

Curry entered to a warm standing ovation and greetings on the big screen β€” he also expressed his gratitude on video β€” when he entered with 4:54 left in the opening quarter. It marked the first time he has come off the bench in a regular-season game since March 7, 2012, against Memphis. He last was a reserve in Game 4 of the first round of the 2022 playoffs during the Warriors’ last championship run.

Things briefly got heated midway through the second quarter when Green and Jabari Smith Jr. exchanged words and had to be separated. Smith wound up with 23 points and nine rebounds while Sengun added 24 points and Thompson 18 and seven assists.

Curry and younger brother Seth played together for the first time when Stephen re-entered the game at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter, the first time two brothers have been together in Warriors franchise history, according to Elias.

Seth Curry appeared in six preseason games for Golden State in 2013 then played for the team’s G League Santa Cruz Warriors that year β€” with the brothers playing all of 100 seconds together during the fourth quarter of two games during that ’13 preseason.
