Oklahoma State softball game postponed after reported fatal accident with team bus

A softball game between Oklahoma State and Wichita State scheduled for Wednesday was postponed after an accident involving the Cowgirls’ team bus, the program announced.

According to KOCO News 5, the accident was a fatal crash in which the bus struck and killed a woman on I-35. Authorities had reportedly received earlier 911 calls about a woman running in and out of traffic on the highway.

Oklahoma State’s statements notes no one from the program was harmed:

Today's scheduled softball game between Oklahoma State and Wichita State has been postponed after the Cowgirls' team bus was involved in an accident on the way to Wichita. No one from the OSU travel party was injured.

When the new game day and time are set, those details will be shared.

The accident victim has not been identified.

Oklahoma State and Wichita State were scheduled to play at 6 p.m., which was a resumption of a game interrupted by rain in the seventh inning on March 10. Wichita State leads 8-3.

With no game Wednesday, Oklahoma State is next scheduled to play a weekend road series against Iowa State starting Friday.

Short-handed Lakers blown out again by Thunder, on verge of falling to 5th place in West

The Los Angeles Lakers’ indignity was predictable on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean it counts any less in the standings.

The Lakers faced the NBA’s top team, the Oklahoma City Thunder while missing Luka Dončić (out for the rest of the regular season with a hamstring strain), LeBron James (out Tuesday with a foot injury), Austin Reaves (out for the rest of the regular season with an oblique strain), Marcus Smart (out since March 21 with an ankle injury) and Jaxson Hayes (out Tuesday with foot soreness).

That’s four starters and a rotation big man, against a team that beat them by 43 points last week. This time, the Thunder beat them 123-87, handing L.A. its third straight loss after a stretch in which it won 13 of 14 games.

On the bright side, Bronny James had a nice dunk on his way to four points on 2-of-9 shooting.

The Lakers were third in the Western Conference standings when they entered last week’s game against the Thunder and are now sitting in fourth. They are also in danger of falling to fifth behind the Houston Rockets and losing home-court advantage in the first round.

Los Angeles is in no danger of slipping to sixth, but its fall from third still means it is staring down a matchup with the Thunder in the event of a victorious first round, which is by no means a given. It’s unclear when Dončić and Reaves, their two leading scorers, will be able to return during the postseason.

That would be why the NBA’s most popular team is now a +30000 underdog (i.e. 300-to-1) to win the NBA Finals at BetMGM right now.

Mavericks dispute Lakers coach JJ Redick's claim they scanned wrong area with Austin Reaves injury

The Dallas Mavericks do not agree with how Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick painted the aftermath of Austin Reaves’ injury on Thursday.

In a statement released to DLLS Sports’ Ron Harrod Jr., the franchise disputed the coach’s claim on Saturday that the team had scanned the wrong area of the Lakers guard after what turned out to be a Grade 2 oblique strain.

The full statement:

“Our medical team followed standard imaging protocols based on the information provided at the time. There was no error in the scan performed."

Reaves has since been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season, as has Lakers star Luka Dončić with a Grade 2 hamstring strain. Both players’ availabilities for the playoffs are up in the air.

The injury in question occurred Thursday during the Lakers’ game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers played the Mavericks on the road in their next game on Sunday and were awaiting the results of an MRI before determining Reaves’ status going forward.

Redick claimed a second MRI was necessary because Dallas had scanned the wrong area when they performed imaging on Reaves:

"I don't know where the chain of command lies with Dallas imaging, but they scanned the wrong area. So… not on our end. We made it explicit what was supposed to be scanned, but they scanned the wrong area."

The Mavericks subsequently beat the Lakers 134-128, with Cooper Flagg dropping 45 points. The loss was a major blow for the Lakers, who have been leapfrogged for third place in the West by the Denver Nuggets.
