Fantasy Football Video: Should managers be fading Commanders' skill position players in 2026?
After advancing to the NFC Championship two seasons ago, the Washington Commanders regressed big time in 2025, failing to make the postseason after finishing 5-12.
From a fantasy football perspective, there was plenty of stock put into QB Jayden Daniels going into this past season, while expectations were high for pass-catchers Terry McLaurin and Deebo Samuel Sr. Daniels was mired by injuries for most of the season and, as a result, the rest of the offense took a big hit.
So far this offseason, the Commanders have made a few moves to shore up their pass-catchers and the running back room, adding Chig Okonkwo at tight end while signing RBs Jerome Ford and Rachaad White to add depth alongside Jacory Croskey-Merritt. That still leaves some major holes at wide receiver with Samuel not returning. Though his former teammate, Brandon Aiyuk, is rumored to be headed to the Commanders at some point.
So, heading into the 2026 NFL Draft, things arenβt looking great for Washington from a fantasy perspective. Matt Harmon and Justin Boone talked about whether or not there will be any value in drafting Commandersβ skill position players in 2026 on the latest Yahoo Fantasy Forecast.
The debate starts at wideout, where Harmon points out the lack of depth behind McLaurin. Van Jefferson and Treylon Burks are on the roster as well as Luke McCaffrey, but none appear to be a legit No. 2 option. Harmon is optimistic about the changes coming under new offensive coordinator David Blough, who comes over from Detroit. Will that lead to optimism surrounding both Daniels and McLaurin?
While the duo could bounce back under Blough, Boone is having a tough time getting too excited about the situation. McLaurin did finish as the WR14 in fantasy a few seasons ago when Daniels was a rookie. Those βspike gamesβ were nowhere to be found in 2025. Based on ADP early on, Daniels is going high despite obvious injury concerns β same with McLaurin. Boone wants to get invested in the pair but where theyβre being drafted is getting in the way.
Boone ties a bow on the situation by mentioning the question marks surrounding the backfield with JCM. If the Commanders pass on top RB Jeremiyah Love if heβs available in the draft, Boone is back in on Croskey-Merritt as a 2026 target.
