Now he’s returning to Tottenham – but a host of teams are lining up to test the club’s resolve over keeping him.

One team who won’t be in the mix to sign the Croatian talent is Brighton, it seems, A BBC Sport report today contradicts recent rumours that the Seagulls will try to sign Vuskovic after Jan Paul van Hecke agreed a move to go the other way.

Simon Stone claimed Brighton have “no immediate plans to make a fresh offer,” after a £30m proposal was rejected.

Van Hecke will need replacing, but there is a lot of summer left, and the Seagulls famously do very clever work in the market. They won’t be panicking, and they won’t be made to overpay by anyone at any point.

Tottenham reportedly want as much as £60m for talented young centre-back Luka Vuskovic as Brighton attempt to find a compromise on the transfer.

It’s previously been reported by the Athletic that Brighton have made a £30m bid for Vuskovic, but it seems that’s a long way off what Spurs have in mind for the Croatia international.

According to the latest info from Football Insider, there is still a desire from Brighton to strike a deal, but there would have to be a compromise somewhere as they’re not willing to pay Spurs’ £60m asking price.

The report suggests, however, that Vuskovic himself could be keen on the potential move, and it would be fair to say that there are plenty of good reasons for that.

How many times in recent years have top young players shone in Brighton’s set-up and gone on to earn big moves?

Ornstein has stressed that the Vuskovic deal is separate from this one, but it’s also easy to imagine that it could have some influence on how that pans out.

Vuskovic will want regular playing time, and it now looks that much more likely that Brighton would be a better bet for offering that than Spurs.

Luka Vuskovic is unlikely to leave Spurs

They have no intentions of negotiating the 19-year-old centre-back’s departure, and value him at around £60 million. Following his impressive rise at Hajduk Split, Spurs secured his services last summer.

But since he was unlikely to have much game time at the North London club, they ended up sending him out on loan to the German club. During his spell at Hamburg, the teenager played 30 matches. He racked up over 2,600 minutes and finished with seven goal contributions.

Brighton will struggle to strike a deal for Vuskovic

He was a rock at the back with his strong physical presence and great aerial ability. The 19-year-old made the most out of his aerial prowess as he finished with six goals. His performances and massive potential have placed him on Brighton’s wishlist.
