Samsung employees move closer to final decision on wage agreement as voting continues

Samsung is holding a vote among its workers to decide on a new wage agreement. The voting is being done by two main labor unions inside the company, and participation has been very high.

At Samsung, more than 80% of eligible workers have already taken part in the vote. This means most employees are actively involved in deciding whether to accept the new wage deal. The vote started on the 22nd and will continue until the 27th morning.

The two unions leading the vote are the Samsung Group Supra-Enterprise Labor Union Samsung Chapter and the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, also known as Jeonsamno. In the larger union, over 46,000 workers out of about 57,000 have voted. In the smaller union, about 6,500 out of 8,000 workers have participated.

The final decision will depend on two simple rules. First, more than half of all workers must vote. Second, most of the voting workers must agree to the deal. If both conditions are met, the wage agreement will become official.

However, some shareholders are not happy with the agreement. They believe that special performance bonuses should not be decided only through union negotiations. Instead, they argue that such decisions should be approved by shareholders in a formal meeting.

A shareholder group plans to take legal action. They may request a court to stop the agreement and even try to cancel it completely. The final outcome will depend on the result of the vote and possible court decisions.
