(PR) ICANN Announces Next Major Internet Security Update

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) today announced that it is planning to change the trust anchor for the Domain Name System (DNS) on 11 October 2026. This change, known as a rollover, is an important step in maintaining the long-term security, stability, and resiliency of the DNS.

The trust anchor is formally known as the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) root zone Key Signing Key (KSK). The KSK is the cryptographic key at the core of the DNSSEC trust anchor and is used to verify that DNS responses are legitimate and have not been modified in transit. DNSSEC helps ensure that Internet users receive authentic DNS data when accessing websites and online services. The rollover process replaces the current KSK with a new one, to maintain strong cryptographic security protections across the global DNS.

Herman Miller Launches the Coyl Gaming Desk Starting at US$1095

Ergonomic furniture company Herman Miller has expanded its gaming range with a new motor driven, height-adjustable gaming desk called the Coyl. It's not that hard to see where the inspiration for the name came from, as the Coyl features a very prominent, coiled up power cable. This is Herman Miller's second attempt at a gaming desk—the first being the Motia—but this time the company has taken things to another level. For starters, the height adjustment is done via a rotary dial that has a simple LED display next to it, so you can dial in the exact height you want.

Cable management is another big selling point of the Coyl and the power cable connects to a built-in power strip that also offers USB charging ports. The rear of the desk is home to a perforated shroud that can be equipped with various add-ons to hold your accessories and devices and there's of course also hooks for hanging your headset etc. on. The Coyl is said to feature a modular design, but as for now that modularity seems to be limited to four different colour options for the table-top, two leg colours, a cable management "soft pocket" that runs the length of the desk, the shroud and a fixed accessory bundle that includes five accessories. The Coyl starts US$1,095, but a fully kitted out desk would set you back as much as US$1,825, with a forced upgrade path as the shroud can't be added without the cable management add-on. The accessories can also be bought individually on their own.

(PR) Global OLED Monitor Shipments Rose by 78% YoY for 1Q26, Bolstered by the Release of QD-OLED Panel Supply

According to the latest research by global market intelligence firm TrendForce, the OLED monitor market entered a seasonal downturn in 1Q26. Moreover, strong promotional campaigns in 4Q25 had already pulled forward demand. Consequently, global OLED monitor shipments dropped by 11% QoQ in 1Q26. However, from a YoY perspective, 1Q26 shipments actually soared by 78%. The key growth driver was the increasingly abundant supply of QD-OLED panels, which enabled new market entrants to ramp up volumes and effectively fill gaps in the market.

In terms of market share, ASUS remained firmly at the top of the rankings in 1Q26 with a 24% share. Its leadership was underpinned by a comprehensive OLED product lineup. As part of its first-quarter product push, ASUS launched a 34-inch gaming monitor with an ultra-high 360 Hz refresh rate and continued to expand into mobile displays with a new 16-inch portable OLED monitor. The brand leverages a highly differentiated product matrix to reinforce its competitive barrier.

(PR) WD Advances Next-Generation Trusted Infrastructure with Industry's First Post-Quantum Cryptography Hard Drives

Western Digital Corporation, the storage foundation of the AI-driven data economy, today announced a significant step in next-generation infrastructure security with the integration of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) into its newest high-capacity Ultrastar UltraSMR hard disk drives. As AI infrastructure evolves from compute-centric deployments to data systems that persistently retain information across every inference, training run, and interaction, the durability and security of that data becomes foundational, not optional. These drives are currently in qualification with multiple hyperscale customers, reflecting strong early interest in quantum-resilient storage architectures.

AI data systems generate and retain massive, long-lived data sets. Securing that data over decades, not just years, must be a core requirement of modern infrastructure. WD's launch of the first hard drives to implement NIST-approved quantum-resistant algorithms marks a definitive industry transition—from theoretical planning to deployed hardware-level defense. By hardening the root of trust, WD provides a critical safeguard against threats like harvest now, decrypt later (HNDL) and similar attacks. This helps protect the massive data lakes fueling today's AI innovations against the cryptographic protection-breaking power of tomorrow's quantum computers. WD is among the first to bring post-quantum cryptography into production storage infrastructure, helping lead the industry's quantum transition with deployed, standards-aligned, infrastructure-level protection, setting a new baseline for trust in AI-era data systems.

TSMC Reports Record Q1 Profits for Arizona Fab

According to news out of Taiwan, TSMC has had higher profits during the first quarter of this year, compared to all of 2025 from Fab 21 in Arizona. TSMC Arizona's profit in 2025 was NT$16.14 billion (around US$510 million) and for Q1 of this year NT$18.8 billion (around US$595 million). In Q1 of 2025 the same fab only had a profit of NT$496 million or US$15.6 million and the good news for TSMC doesn't stop here.

Its joint venture in Kumamoto, Japan—JASM—has also posted its first profit, admittedly at a much more modest NT$951 million (around US$30 million), but considering the fab had been making a loss of NT$3.25 billion (around US$103 million) in Q1 2025, TSMC seems to be on the up and up across the board. TSMC holds a 77 percent stake in JASM with Sony, Denso and Toyota being minority owners. Both Fab 21 in Arizona and Fab 23 in Kumamoto are under expansion with both set to start operation sometime in 2027, while the Fab 21 will see further expansions added this year with an unknown production start for the time being.

(PR) Mobile DRAM Contract Prices Continue Rising in 2Q26, Pressuring Smartphone Production

Surging mobile DRAM contract prices in 2Q26 continue to place even greater cost pressure on smartphone brands, according to TrendForce's latest memory market research. The two major Korean suppliers may have adopted different pricing strategies: Samsung Electronics is pursuing a more aggressive one-step pricing approach with sharper increases, while preliminary quotations from SK hynix indicate relatively milder hikes through a gradual price-raising strategy, with final pricing expected to be completed in late May. Overall, TrendForce estimates that the ASP of LPDDR4X solutions will jump by at least 70-75% QoQ for 2Q26, while the ASP of LPDDR5X solutions will see a QoQ surge of 78-83%.

Notably, several consecutive quarters of steep price increases have significantly intensified cost burdens for smartphone vendors. Under such conditions, brands are expected not only to reduce total smartphone production in 2026, but may also struggle to fulfill the bit procurement volumes stipulated in the LTAs (or MoUs) arranged with suppliers at the end of last year.
