During halftime, kids from Aces Academy Basketball took to the court to show off their basketball skills.

One of the kids chosen from the academy was 9-year-old Dakotah, who The Blast spoke to last season. Her mom Alycia told us back then that she really wanted to meet A’ja Wilson but hasn’t had the chance yet. This season, that changed. Dakotah finally got the chance to meet her at the academy. We caught up with Dakotah before the game started and she said she was “ready to rock the court.”

“I went to this Aces camp and I was being a good sport and they picked me to play on the Aces court at halftime,” she said. She added that when she met Wilson, she was “crying happy tears.”

Dakotah has been playing basketball for two years and plans to keep going. When asked if she wants to play in the WNBA, she enthusiastically said, “yes.”

While Aces fans know just how decorated star player A’ja Wilson is, it’s no surprise that she’s on the Wheaties box.

According to a press release sent to The Blast, Wilson shared that this is something she dreamed of when she was younger.

“Being on the cover of a Wheaties box is one of those things you grow up dreaming about,” Wilson said. “For me, this is about showing every little girl what’s possible when you dream big. I’m proud of the work, proud of the journey, and proud to partner with a brand that celebrates champions who keep pushing the game forward.”

As a part of this incredible milestone in her career, Wheaties will make a $5,000 donation to support the A’ja Wilson Foundation.

Wheaties has featured prominent athletes on its box for more than 100 years. Emilie Knox, Vice President and Business Unit Director for Wheaties at General Mills said that “A’ja is the definition of a Wheaties Champion — a generational talent whose leadership, resilience, and commitment to empowering others has set a new standard.”

Knox also said they are “proud to celebrate A’ja” on and off the court.

The limited-edition box will be available at major retailers this summer.
