The New York Knicks have accepted an invitation from Donald Trump, following their historic NBA championship victory. The team will soon head to the White House, as further details remain under wraps. Knicks owner James Dolan shared the news in a recent interview.

Knicks accept Donald Trump’s invitation to White House

Speaking with WFAN New York on Wednesday, June 17, James Dolan, the executive chairman and CEO of Madison Square Garden Sports Corp., the owner of the Knicks, confirmed that the team has accepted an invitation to the White House.

“We just did receive an invitation from [the] White House, which we accepted,” Dolan revealed. When questioned about the highly anticipated celebration, Dolan shared, “We still have to figure out the details.”

The White House invitation comes shortly after the Knicks won their first NBA Championship in 53 years, by defeating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Finals on June 13.

During the interview, Dolan also spoke about his friendship with Donald Trump. “I invited the President to come down for the game,” the Knicks owner said. He added, “He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years, and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”

Previously, Trump’s appearance at the Knicks game against the Spurs on June 8 sparked controversy. The crowd booed the president as he enjoyed the game from a private box at Madison Square Garden, accompanied by his granddaughter Kai Trump. Many ticket holders were reportedly frustrated with the tight security measures in place at the venue for the president’s visit.

Spurs point guard also spoke out against Trump’s appearance at the game. “I think the president being here just makes it inconvenient for everybody else,” he said at the time. “We’re getting screened like it’s TSA. It’s a little inconvenient for the people that’s got to play, but it is what it is,” Fox added.

It sounds like the New York Knicks will be celebrating their NBA Championship at the White House with United States President Donald Trump.

Trump, who attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals in New York City, is a longtime New Yorker, Knicks fan, and a friend of team owner James Dolan. So it comes as no surprise that he has already invited the team to celebrate their victory at the White House. It also comes as no surprise that Dolan, who invited him to Game 3, has already accepted on the team’s behalf.

Trump Supported the Knicks

Trump has supported the Knicks throughout their playoff run, even attending Game 3 of the NBA Finals in Madison Square Garden. When the team clinched the series with a win in Game 5 in San Antonio, Trump was quick to congratulate the team on social media.

“Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!!” he wrote in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“What a year it has been but, even more so, what incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four – Maybe the greatest in the history of basketball. Also, tonight, a superstar was born. His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

While Trump has never invited an NBA team to celebrate their championship at the White House, it sounds like the Knicks are set to become the first.

Knicks Headed to White House

During an appearance on The Craig Carton Show on WFAN on Wednesday, New York Knicks team owner James Dolan confirmed that the team had received an invitation to celebrate their championship at the White House, and that invitation had already been accepted.

“We just received an invitation which we’ve accepted, still have to figure out the details,” Dolan told Carton. “I’ve known the president 30 years and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House.”

As Dolan said, it’s not immediately clear when the team will visit the White House. In the past, however, teams have occurred when the team is in Washington, D.C. for a game against the Wizards.
