Samsung may be considering a noticeable change for the future Samsung Galaxy S27 lineup. According to new supply chain reports, the company is exploring the use of OLED panels from Chinese display maker BOE for at least some versions of the standard Galaxy S27.

If that ends up happening, it would be a fairly big shift for Samsung’s flagship phones, which have traditionally relied almost entirely on panels made by Samsung Display itself.

The reported reason mostly comes down to cost. BOE is said to have offered panels that are roughly $5 cheaper per unit compared to Samsung Display. That may not sound huge at first, but across millions of phones, the savings add up pretty quickly.

The timing also makes sense from Samsung’s side. Component costs, especially DRAM memory prices, have been rising again recently, and smartphone makers are under pressure to control production costs.

For now, reports suggest Samsung Display would still remain the primary supplier, with BOE acting more as a secondary source. Samsung already uses panels from companies like TCL CSOT in some mid-range Galaxy devices, so the idea itself is not completely new. The bigger talking point is simply the possibility of BOE entering the flagship Galaxy S lineup.

There are also reports that the base Galaxy S27 could use an older OLED material set instead of Samsung Display’s latest-generation technology, again likely as part of the same cost-cutting effort.

Of course, display quality is one area where Samsung phones have traditionally had a very strong reputation, so some users will probably question whether panel consistency could change depending on the supplier. Samsung Display is still widely considered one of the best OLED manufacturers in the industry and even supplies panels for companies like Apple.

At the same time, most users would probably never notice small differences in everyday use if Samsung calibrates the panels properly.

The Galaxy S27 series is expected to launch sometime in early 2027, so there is plenty of time for Samsung’s plans to change. Still, the report does give an interesting look at how aggressively smartphone brands are now trying to manage flagship production costs behind the scenes.

This would place it between the regular Galaxy S27 and the larger Galaxy S27+ in terms of size. The phone is reportedly aimed at users who want top-tier specifications without carrying an oversized device.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is said to share many of its core features with the Galaxy S27 Ultra. Rumored specifications include a next-generation Snapdragon chipset, Samsung’s Privacy Display technology, and a flagship-grade camera system. The camera setup may include a 200-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

Reports also suggest that Samsung may skip the S Pen on the Galaxy S27 Pro to keep the phone slimmer and more compact. This would leave the Galaxy S27 Ultra as the only model in the lineup with stylus support and productivity-focused features.

The move appears to align with a growing trend in the premium smartphone segment where brands are offering flagship hardware in multiple screen sizes. Apple and Google already offer Pro-level devices in relatively compact form factors, and Samsung may now be preparing a similar strategy for Galaxy users.

The Galaxy S27 Pro is also expected to become a replacement for Samsung’s recent Edge experiment, which reportedly did not see strong demand despite its slim design. Samsung is reportedly developing four flagship phones for early 2027, and among them could be a Galaxy S27 Pro, which would allegedly feature a never-before-seen display size.

Galaxy S26 is a compact phone, and S26 Plus features a screen as large as the S26 Ultra. There’s no Pro version in Samsung’s 2026 flagship smartphone lineup. 2027 is going to mark a major shift in the company’s product strategy.

Korea’s ETNews, citing industry sources, revealed the potential display size of the Galaxy S27 Pro. The report states that Samsung is testing a 6.47 inch OLED display, which could be features in the Pro version of the lineup next year.

The naming already signaled that the S27 Pro would rival Apple’s iPhone Pro version. Now, the display size leak brings it closer to the iPhone 17 Pro.

A source familiar with the matter said, “The Galaxy S27 lineup is currently being prepared in four models, and the new model is expected to feature a new 6.47-inch display size that Samsung has never attempted before.”

Earlier, it was reported that the Galaxy S27 Pro could come with a balanced spec approach. It would match its Ultra sibling in terms of most specs, and the lack of S Pen would differentiate it from the Galaxy S27 Ultra.

There’s a specific fanbase who prefer portable phones with beast specs. Galaxy S27 Pro is indeed designed for those users who have been demanding a compact flagship, while retaining Ultra-level specifications.

Samsung’s next Unpacked (for foldable phones) could happen on July 22 in London. As far as the Galaxy S27 launch is concered, the flagship phones may launch sometime in February next year.
