Free Gemini users could soon face new restrictions
Google may soon change the way people use its free Gemini AI service. According to recent information shared on X, the company is testing weekly usage limits for some free users. This means users may get a fixed amount of Gemini access every week instead of the current daily or hourly limits.
Right now, if users reach their limit on Gemini, they usually only need to wait a few hours or a day before using the service again. But with a weekly system, things could become more difficult. If someone uses all their free access quickly, they may have to wait several days before they can use Gemini again.
Screenshots shared online suggest that Google has already started testing these changes with a small number of users. Googleβs support pages also mention that usage limits may change often during testing or during times when many people are using the platform.

The main reason behind this possible change is the high cost of running AI tools. Services like chatbots, image creators, and video generators need powerful computers and large amounts of electricity. As millions of people use AI services every day, companies like Google are spending more money to keep these systems running.
Google is not the only company making such changes. Earlier this year, it added weekly limits to its Antigravity AI coding platform. Other AI companies, including ChatGPT and Sora, have also reduced free access because of rising costs.
If weekly limits are introduced widely, casual users may not notice much difference. However, active users could run out of access much faster than before.
