Jo Shimoda wins RedBud Moto 2 and takes the 250 red plate; Cole Davies scored overall victor

Jo Shimoda got a strong start during Moto 1 of the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, and took the 250 championship lead in the process. After finishing third in the first race, he gave up the overall victory to Cole Davies, who won Moto 1.

This was the first moto win for Shimoda since late last season at Unadilla.

Davies earned the holeshot and dominated the first half of the race as Shimoda worked his way up from fourth. Shimoda caught Davies with five minutes on the clock and made short work of completing the pass.

Davies is the first rider in 2026 to score two overall victories.

Ryder DiFrancesco ended on the podium after racing in the top five for most of the race. He also scored the overall podium, the 10th rider to do so in 10 motos.

Casey Cochran, Chance Hymas, Shimoda, and Nicholas Romano rounded out the top five at the end of the first lap.

Cochran stayed among the top five during the entire race and finished fourth. With a fifth-place finish in Moto 1, he was scored fourth overall.

Hymas contended for a top-five until he was passed by Levi Kitchen with two laps to go.

Kitchen overcame a poor start that saw him as far back as 13th on Lap 1 to move into fourth around Cochran on Lap 5. He worked his way up to third in middle stage of the race, before crashing on Lap 9. That dropped to sixth for a while, but he recovered for fifth.

With a 5-4, Kitchen was fifth overall.

After crashing in Moto 1, Julien Beaumer went down again on Lap 3 of the second race.

Jett Lawrence snaps two-moto losing streak at RedBud in first 450 race

Jett Lawrence passed Hunter Lawrence on the last lap of the Red Bud National at Buchanan, Michigan, to end a two-race losing streak.

Hunter tracked his brother down late in Moto 1 of the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, easily took the lead, and built a six-second gap before he crashed halfway through the final lap.

Jett came to RedBud MX in Buchanan, Michigan, with a chip on his shoulder after losing both motos at High Point. He posted the fastest lap in the first qualification session, crashed in Qualification 2, and took the lead from Jorge Prado on Lap 3 of the first moto.

According to WeWentFast.com, Jett has only lost 3 motos in a row one in his 450 career, early in the season in 2024 and he was determined that would not happen again.

Jorge Prado earned the holeshot with Jett and Hunter settling in right behind him in second and third respectively.

Hunter took a while longer to get around the Spanish MXGP champion. He made the pass on Prado on Lap 7 and he set his sights on Jett, who seemed to lose pace in the closing laps.

Prado finished third.

Halfway through the race, the top three riders had a gap of 20 seconds over fourth place.

Returning from injury, Justin Barcia was fourth at the end of Lap 1 with RJ Hampshire rounding out the top five.

Barcia crashed on Lap 3, however, and gave up his chance to finish in the top five in his first race back.

Hampshire held onto fourth at the checkers.

Haiden Deegan crashed early on Lap 1 and had difficulty remounting. He completed Lap 1 in 36th. He was in a position to earn points by Lap 5. He worked his way up to 10th.

Aaron Plessinger was also involved and required assistance to limp off the track.

Cole Davies tops RedBud 250 Qualification over Caden Dudney

Cole Davies was more than one second quicker than the field during the morning qualification sessions for the RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan, posting a lap of 2:19.661 compared to second-place Caden Dudney's 2:21.048.

Davies' time would have been faster still if he had not failed sound and lost his best lap.

The 250 divisional points leader, Levi Kitchen (2:22:081), was another second back on a track that was pummeled by rain on Friday.

Ryder DiFrancesco (2:22.082) and Michael Mosiman (2:23.517) rounded out the top five.

That means the other two riders ahead of Davies in the championship standings will start outside the top five with Julien Beaumer (2:23.607) qualifying seventh and Jo Shimoda (2:24.082) posting only the 11th fastest time.
