Romano confirms Man City close in on major midfield deal as final talks begin

19 June 2026 at 14:11

Manchester City are reportedly growing increasingly confident of completing a deal for Elliot Anderson, with the transfer now moving into its final stages after weeks of behind-the-scenes work.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City believe they can get the agreement done, with a new round of talks expected to take place.

If everything goes to plan, the England midfielder would undergo a medical in the United States before officially joining the club.

That detail is important because Anderson is currently involved with England at the World Cup, meaning any medical would likely need to be arranged around international commitments.

It also shows how far City have pushed the process. Clubs do not usually prepare medical plans unless there is real confidence that a deal can be finalised.

A statement midfield signing from Man City

City’s interest is easy to understand.

Anderson has become one of the most exciting English midfielders in the Premier League, combining energy, ball-carrying quality and maturity beyond his years.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

He is the type of player who can fit into a possession-heavy team while still adding bite and directness.

Earlier reports from The Guardian suggested Man City were already favourites for the midfielder despite Manchester United’s interest.

That makes this move feel like another example of City acting decisively when they identify a priority target.

Premier League giants are ready to rebuild midfield

For Man City, this is not just about adding depth.

The midfield has needed refreshing, especially with key players ageing or facing uncertain futures.

Anderson would bring a younger English core to the squad and could be developed into a long-term starter.

The fee is expected to be huge, but City clearly believe his ceiling justifies the investment.

In my opinion, this is the kind of signing that could look expensive now but smart in two or three years if he develops as expected.

The deal is not officially complete, but City are pushing hard, confidence is growing, and the next round of talks could prove decisive.

The season’s closing fixtures will take place one week before the UEFA Champions League final, which is set for Saturday, 5 June 2027.

Tottenham ‘actively in talks’ for £100m midfielder as journalist drops exciting update

18 June 2026 at 03:42

Sandro Tonali remains a high-profile summer target this summer with plenty of interest from Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Manchester City, and Tottenham.

The Italian midfielder’s future at St James’ Park has become one of the defining narratives of the transfer window, as rival heavyweights prepare to battle for his coveted signature.

Ben Jacobs shares update on Sandro Tonali

Respected transfer journalist Ben Jacobs took to X to shed light on the developing situation on Tyneside, confirming that Eddie Howe’s side are bracing themselves for a highly competitive bidding war.

According to Jacobs, Tottenham and Manchester City are both actively in talks with the player’s camp.

New Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi has reportedly identified his compatriot a top target to rebuild the North London club’s midfield.

Meanwhile, Manchester City view Tonali as an ideal elite midfielder to add supreme tactical depth to their engine room.

They aren’t the only ones keeping a watchful eye on the situation. Arsenal enquired in January and are still assessing midfield options for this summer, meaning a late swoop from Mikel Arteta’s side cannot be entirely ruled out as they look to finalise their roster structure.

Jacobs shared the following update:

“Newcastle braced for bids for Sandro Tonali and expecting multiple suitors. Spurs and Manchester City both in talks.

“Arsenal enquired in January and are still assessing midfield options for this summer. A return to Italy very unlikely due to cost, even though Tonali wants to play in Serie A again one day. Newcastle looking for around £100m including add-ons.”

Newcastle set staggering £100m price tag

While Tonali is reportedly open to exploring these ambitious projects, any prospective buyer will have to shatter their transfer records to secure him.

Newcastle are holding an incredibly firm negotiating position, looking for around £100m including add-ons to let their midfield maestro depart.

A return to Italy is very unlikely due to cost, even though Tonali wants to play in Serie A again one day.

Sandro Tonali’s Newcastle statistics show why clubs are interested

Tonali has been a key player for Newcastle since signing from AC Milan. Serving as the functional engine of Newcastle’s tactical setup, his consistency across multiple fronts has been exemplary.

He has made 110 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 10 and assisting another 10.

Boasting a passing accuracy of 84.4% and executing 71 accurate long balls this past season, he ranks among the upper tier of European deep-lying playmakers.

Whichever club wins the race to sign him, would no doubt be significantly bolstering their midfield.

Done deal: Real Madrid confirm Bernardo Silva transfer and contract length

17 June 2026 at 13:42

Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of former Manchester City star Bernardo Silva on a free transfer.

Silva had come to the end of his contract at the Etihad Stadium, and he’s now confirmed as being set to join Madrid on a two-year deal starting next season.

The experienced Portugal international will currently be focusing on the 2026 World Cup with his country, but it seems his future for after the tournament has also been sorted out.

In an official statement, Real said: “Real Madrid CF and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement whereby he will be a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028.”

Bernardo Silva transfer and what it means for Real Madrid’s squad

Silva finished with three goals and five assists for Man City in the season just gone, having adapted his game to playing a bit deeper with age.

At his peak, the former Monaco man was a world class attacking midfielder capable of scoring and creating consistently at the highest level.

That’s perhaps no longer his game, but he remains a quality player with the experience and know-how of winning major trophies, and that could be a big help for this relatively youthful Los Blancos side.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

However, that could also mean that some members of this squad end up making way, with Silva looking like he’ll surely be strong competition for someone like Arda Guler.

It will be interesting to see how new Madrid manager Jose Mourinho manages these options, but he’s generally been known to favour experience in his teams throughout his career.

That could mean we’ll see some outgoings of talented young players like Guler, who will surely want to continue playing regular first-team football.

Real Madrid unlikely to continue pursuit of Manchester City star

16 June 2026 at 21:03

Real Madrid are set to continue their fast start to the summer, having already agreed four signings midway through June. As they focus their efforts on strengthening their backline and midfield, several Premier League stars are in their crosshairs.

One of them has been Josko Gvardiol at Manchester City, who has caught the eye of Los Blancos. Reports in Spain have claimed that new manager Jose Mourinho personally picked out the Croatian as one of his preferred signings to complete his backline, alongside Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori. Already Los Blancos have made three additions to their backline in Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries, but Mourinho is keen to bring in another centre-back.

As reported by Sport in Spain, Real Madrid are unlikely to make way with Gvardiol, following the news that he had agreed terms with Manchester City on a new five-year deal. As with any negotiation these days, it is never clear how much interest is sought out by agents in order to have a stronger bargaining position, but recent weeks had seen a number of reports that Gvardiol was considering a move to the Spanish capital.

Real Madrid may yet pursue City teammate

Enzo Maresca’s side are not yet out of the woods in terms of escaping Real Madrid’s attentions to their star players though. Recently it has been revealed that centre-back Ruben Dias is also on their shortlist, and they could yet seek a move for the Portuguese defender. That may be a move City are more open to, given Dias’ age.

At 29 years old and with three years remaining on his deal, it could be their last chance to bring in a significant fee for Dias. If Maresca does not see him as a long-term part of the project, and Dias is open to the move, it may work out for all involved.

Manchester City defender on three-man Real Madrid shortlist for blockbuster move

16 June 2026 at 20:13

Real Madrid’s aggressive start to the transfer window has continued, with Marc Cucurella the latest player to be confirmed to be joining the club. However Los Blancos intend to continue their signing spree, and despite the addition of Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konate, another one is expected to arrive.

At least that is Jose Mourinho’s preference. Konate, Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries can already provide the Portuguese manager with a new-look defence, but Mourinho has requested another central defender and another central midfielder, to join Bernardo Silva. Currently their centre-back room consists of Antonio Rudiger, who extended his deal this week too, Raul Asencio, Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen.

Real Madrid’s centre-back shortlist

As reported by The Athletic, Real Madrid have three names on their shortlist for the centre-back position. Another Barcelona target, Alessandro Bastoni, is among them, despite repeated statements from Inter that he will be remaining at the club this summer. Josko Gvardiol and Riccardo Calafiori were initially suggested by Mourinho too, but those links have cooled off.

The other two options being considered are Manchester City veteran Ruben Dias and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck. The latter signed a contract extension at Dortmund, but reportedly has a €60m release clause in his deal for Los Blancos, while Dias still has three years left on his deal.

Could Dias leave Manchester City this summer?

Dias, 29, has been a key player for City since arriving from Benfica in 2020, but having achieved everything at the Etihad, may be tempted by a new challenge under compatriot Jose Mourinho. Given his age, City are also probably approaching their final chance to sell Dias for a significant fee. It may well depend on how Enzo Maresca sees him, and what sort of role he has in his project.

Report: Man City eye £70m defensive deal as backline rebuild begins

16 June 2026 at 09:35

Manchester City are reportedly considering a major summer move for Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as they prepare for changes in defense.

According to Football Insider, City have identified the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for John Stones, who is expected to leave the Etihad.

Everton, however, are not planning to make things easy and are believed to want around £70m before even considering a sale.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

That valuation is no surprise. Branthwaite is young, English, left-footed and Premier League-proven, a combination that usually makes defenders extremely expensive.

He also fits the type of profile City tend to admire: calm on the ball, physically strong and capable of playing in a high defensive line.

Everton hold firm on huge valuation

Everton know they have one of the most valuable young defenders in the league.

Sky Sports has also reported that Man City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are all watching the defender closely.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

That level of interest gives Everton every reason to demand a premium fee.

Branthwaite signed a long-term deal last summer, meaning the Toffees are under no pressure to sell cheaply.

If City want him, they will likely have to pay close to Everton’s asking price.

A smart but expensive move for Man City

From City’s point of view, this deal makes sense. Stones has left the club and they need someone who can fill the void.

Branthwaite would not just be a replacement; he would be a long-term investment.

He has the tools to develop into an elite defender, especially in a possession-heavy team where his passing range and composure would be tested every week.

The only real question is price. £70m is a huge figure, but if City believe he can become a defensive leader for the next decade, this could be the kind of expensive move that still makes sense.

Premier League teams fear Anderson deal could blow up summer midfielder market

15 June 2026 at 18:45

Elliot Anderson is one of England’s most in demand players, and his move could have serious ripple effects.

If you enjoy CaughtOffside coverage and want to see more of it, add us as a preferred source on Google to make us a favourite and see more of our content.

Matt Law of the Daily Telegraph is today reporting that Premier League teams are worried that Elliot Anderson’s impending move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City for more than £100m is going to inflate prices in this window, particularly for central midfielders.

Crop of English midfield stars could blow market open

Any Premier League team who wants to sign a central midfielder – and that likely includes Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U – would therefore like to get a deal done before Anderson’s incoming mega-fee resets the market.

The likes of Adam Wharton and Alex Scott are being heavily linked with moves in the months to come, and the fees commanded by Crystal Palace and Bournemouth are likely to rise significantly if Anderson makes his big money move as expected later this summer.

As it stands, Chelsea’s signings of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez for more than £100m each are the benchmarks for elite players with top level experience moving at a young age. When it finally happens, Anderson’s move is expected to match that – and potentially even beat it.

In other news…

PSG and Arsenal are the two teams most strongly linked with breakout star of the World Cup, Ayyoud Bouaddi. They will have to break records to sign him, however.

Ismael Saibari is closing in on a move to join Bayern Munich, with a medical set to take place in the USA in the coming days.

Manchester City icon Yaya Toure takes surprise first job as manager

15 June 2026 at 17:05

Former Manchester City and Barcelona star Yaya Toure has never been afraid of speaking his mind, and now his voice will be the loudest in the dressing room. For some time the Ivorian legend has been building up experience in coaching, and now has taken his first step into management.

Toure, 43, retired in 2020 after a short spell in China, having also signed for Olympiakos after leaving Manchester City. Over the past few years, he has done his badges and taken on assistant roles at Olimpik Donetsk, Akhmat Grozny, Standard Liege and most recently Saudi Arabia, where he was until 2024. In the 2022-23 season, he also managed Tottenham Hotspur’s under-19 side.

Now the one-time marauding midfielder has taken a step up to the main seat. They did not announce the length of his deal, but Slovan Bratislava have announced that Toure is taking over Slovakia’s most successful club. Last season they were managed by Vladimir Weiss, who has been in charge for the past five years, and has seen the club win the last five Slovakian league titles. He is moving on to take over the Slovakia national team full-time.

Yaya Toure: “I want to play dominant football”

Speaking to the club media, Toure said that he was delighted to have been given the full-time role.

“I’m very happy and excited; honestly, I can’t wait for us to get to work together on Monday. My predecessor deserves great respect for what he’s achieved with Slovan. I want to build on that while also bringing something new and unique of my own. Football is everything to me. I love challenges and am incredibly excited to coach a great club with a rich history, a beautiful stadium, and high ambitions. I was very pleasantly surprised by the club’s facilities, which are truly top-notch. With Slovan, I want to play dominant soccer, win games, and control matches so that we can delight our fans.”

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the players personally. I’ve already tried to study the team in as much detail as possible, but the most important thing will still be to see how the players react during training. As an assistant, I had the opportunity to work with Robert Mancini, for example, but I’ve longed for a long time to be able to work on my own project as a head coach. I appreciate that this opportunity is coming at a top club, which I recently watched in a Champions League match against Manchester City. I really can’t wait for Monday; I’m excited about what lies ahead.”

Toure mentions Mancini, who he also had as a player at City, but it will be interesting to see who has the biggest influence on him. He famously fell out with Pep Guardiola, but also worked under Manuel Pellegrini and Frank Rijkaard.

Barcelona star tells heartbreaking story of losing mother – ‘I still remember her last screams’

15 June 2026 at 16:29

Barcelona star Joao Cancelo has opened up about the loss of his mother, which affected him as a child. The 32-year-old has given a heartbreaking account of that event, and of suffering a robbery too, in which he had a knife pulled on him.

The on-loan Al-Hilal full-back is coming off a fine season at Barcelona, where he spent the second half of the year on loan, and will be hoping to make his mark at the World Cup with Portugal. Cancelo has voiced his desire to stay in Catalonia next season, and Barcelona are expected to negotiate with Al-Hilal for a permanent deal.

Cancelo tells story of armed robbery

The former Manchester City full-back has had to fight his way to get to the top of the game though, and did so through no shortage of trauma. Speaking to Alta Definicao, Cancelo related the story of when he, his partner and two-year-old daughter suffered an armed robbery while he was playing at the Etihad in 2021. Marca quoted his answers.

“They had their backs to me, and I felt I had a chance to do something. Today I regret doing it, but I managed to punch him in the back of the head, on the nape of his neck. He fell forward, and the knife fell to the ground. I managed to kick the knife away, and suddenly another one came from behind and hit me on the head with an iron bar. This scar I have here, to this day, is a result of that; I got eight stitches and was knocked unconscious.”

“I fainted. And then, when I woke up… there was a knife pointed at my neck.”

Cancelo lost mother in car accident

That was a second traumatic event, after he lost his mother in a car accident as a 19-year-old just making his way in the game. The accident occurred in Portugal, with Cancelo asleep when it began.

“It was in a matter of milliseconds that my life changed forever. I remember my mother’s last scream and my eight-year-old brother crying. I tried to lift the car to get my mother out, but I couldn’t. Lifting a car is impossible.”

Previously, he has commented that he considered retiring from football due to the impact it had on him. The Portuguese international is a popular figure at Barcelona, and his return this year was welcomed by the dressing room, in particular Gavi, whom he is close with.

Arsenal and Man City face £100m battle to sign player on Man United radar

15 June 2026 at 14:02

Arsenal and Manchester City are both interested in signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali this summer, with the Magpies reportedly demanding around £100m before considering a sale.

According to journalist Nicolo Schira, both clubs are watching the Italy international closely.

Newcastle’s stance, however, is firm. They do not want to lose one of their most important midfielders unless a huge offer arrives.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

That position is easy to understand. Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023.

He has since become a key part of Newcastle’s midfield, bringing control, energy and big-game experience.

Why Arsenal and City are tempted

For Arsenal, Tonali would be a serious statement signing.

Mikel Arteta already has a strong midfield, but the Italian would add another level of composure, aggression and European pedigree.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

He can dictate tempo, recover possession and carry the ball forward, which makes him a natural fit for a team trying to compete on every front.

Man City’s interest also makes sense. With Pep Guardiola’s side always looking for technical security in midfield, Tonali has the style and intelligence to slot into a possession-heavy system.

His ability to play as a deep controller or a more advanced midfielder would give City valuable flexibility.

Newcastle United have a major decision to make

The biggest issue for both clubs is Newcastle’s negotiating position.

Sky Sports reported earlier this year that Tonali’s contract has been extended until 2029, with an option for a further year. That means Newcastle are under no pressure to sell cheaply.

Newcastle remain in a strong position over any potential exit.

For Arsenal and City, the interest is understandable. But unless either club is ready to go close to Newcastle’s £100m demand, this transfer may be very difficult to pull off.

Man City get one over Real Madrid as Premier League side edge closer to defensive deal

15 June 2026 at 12:47

Manchester City are growing increasingly confident that they will secure a major contract extension for Joško Gvardiol, in what would be a big statement after weeks of interest from Real Madrid.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City believe a new deal is now almost agreed, with only the final green light still needed.

DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL CAUGHTOFFSIDE APP FOR ALL THE LATEST & BREAKING UPDATES – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! ON APPLE & GOOGLE PLAY

The proposed contract would run until June 2031 and include improved salary terms, rewarding the Croatian defender for his rapid rise since arriving at the Etihad.

The update is a major boost for City. Gvardiol joined from RB Leipzig in 2023, and he has since become one of the most important defenders in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Real Madrid pushed but Man City stayed firm

Real Madrid have reportedly been trying for weeks to tempt the defender, with Managing Madrid noting that he had become a concrete target for the Spanish giants.

Want more CaughtOffside coverage? Add us as a preferred source on Google to your favourites list for news you can trust

It is easy to understand why. He is left-footed, comfortable as both a centre-back and left-back, and already has experience at the highest level.

However, City’s response has been exactly what you would expect from an elite club.

Rather than allowing the situation to drag on, they have moved quickly to offer better terms and protect one of their best long-term assets.

A smart move from the Premier League side

From City’s point of view, this feels like a very smart decision. Gvardiol is still young, already proven, and fits perfectly into the type of flexible defensive system Guardiola wants.

City offered improved terms to block Madrid’s interest and their move has seemed to work in their favour.

For Real Madrid, this looks like a frustrating setback and now manager Jose Mourinho will be looking to expore other opitions in the market as he aims to rebuild the Spanish side.

Real Madrid have already agreed deals for Ibrahima Konate, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries and Marc Cucurella.

Man United and Man City to battle it out for £70 million-rated Premier League star

14 June 2026 at 15:00

Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are keeping tabs on Everton defensive mainstay Jarrad Branthwaite.

Jarrad Branthwaite has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Premier League with his consistent performances for Everton, resulting in significant interest in his services.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Manchester City, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are keen on signing the English international. All three clubs are keeping a close eye on him and could launch a move in the summer if any of their key defenders end up leaving.

Jarrard Branthwaite could leave for £70 million

While the Toffees would love to have him around for years to come, they would be open to sanctioning his departure for £70 million. On the back of an impressive loan spell at PSV Eindhoven during the 2022/23 season, he got an extended run in the Everton first team and hasn’t looked back since.

However, things haven’t been that great for him over the last 12 months. He could only make 10 appearances during the 2025/26 season, as a hamstring injury kept him on the sidelines. Despite his recent injury struggles, the interest in his services remains sky-high.

European giants could battle it out for Branthwaite

Manchester United, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich are three clubs that are interested in his services. With Kim Min-jae’s future uncertain, the German giants consider him an ideal replacement.

Meanwhile, he has been on United’s wishlist for a long-time. With Harry Maguire in the final phase of his career and Matthijs de Ligt struggling to stay fit, investing in the 23-year-old would make a lot of sense.

Even City have a long-standing interest in his services and could make a move if Ruben Dias leaves the club. While all three clubs are monitoring him and would love to add him to their ranks, it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to meet Everton’s demands.
