Lazio & Inter fans stage organised boycott of Serie A clash

4 May 2026 at 20:06

The organised supporter groups of both Lazio and Inter Milan will stay away from the Stadio Olimpico for Saturday’s Serie A clash between the two sides, with Lazio’s ultras continuing their protest against the club’s ownership while Inter’s groups have chosen to join them in solidarity.

According to Radio Laziale, via LaLazioSiamoNoi, representatives of Lazio’s organised supporter groups confirmed the decision, explaining that both sets of fans will instead gather together at Ponte Milvio ahead of kick-off. The boycott forms part of a wider protest that has characterised the second half of Lazio’s season.

Lazio ultras eye Coppa Italia final as priority amid Serie A boycott

The groups were keen to stress, however, that the decision is also partly tactical, with the Coppa Italia final against Inter just four days away, staying outside is seen as a way of easing tension and building unity ahead of the Stadio Olimpico showpiece.

“For the final we will be inside the stadium,” a supporter group representative said.

“The decision to stay outside for the league match, together with Inter’s organised groups, was also taken to enjoy the build-up together. A way of lowering the tension and anxiety four days before the Coppa Italia final. It will be a chance to be together and pass on some communications to the fans present. On Wednesday we will need great clarity and everyone pulling together. I’ll say it now: get in early on Wednesday.”

Report: Milan could sell Pulisic for €60m amid Manchester United links

4 May 2026 at 19:44

Christian Pulisic could be set for a return to English football this summer, with Manchester United reportedly identifying the United States international as a priority target and AC Milan valuing the attacker at around €60 million.

According to Calciomercato.it, via MilanNews24, United have moved decisively for Pulisic, preferring him over other targets including Rafael Leão, with whom a swap deal involving Joshua Zirkzee had previously been mooted before falling through.

The Red Devils are said to be attracted by the American’s versatility, with his ability to operate as a winger, attacking midfielder or second striker particularly appealing to the club’s recruitment team.

Milan in no rush to sell Pulisic despite Manchester United interest

Milan, however, are not under pressure to sell and are reportedly minded to wait before entering serious negotiations. The club are understood to want to monitor Pulisic’s performances at the World Cup with the United States national team, with the hope that a strong tournament could increase his market value beyond the current €60 million asking price.

A meeting between the two clubs is expected at the end of the season to establish both the player’s wishes and United’s genuine intentions. Despite Milan’s struggles in front of goal in recent months, Pulisic remains one of their most valuable assets and the club have no intention of letting him leave on the cheap.

A move to Old Trafford would represent a return to England for Pulisic, who spent four years at Chelsea before joining Milan in 2023.

Spalletti sends transfer message to Juventus amid Man City duo speculation

4 May 2026 at 18:42

Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti admits the Bianconeri need ‘quality’ in tight spaces, amid speculation that the Bianconeri want both Bernardo Silva and Tijjani Reijnders from Manchester City.

Juventus will be looking to add more quality to the team, as Bianconeri coach Spalletti clarified on Sunday after a disappointing 1-1 home draw against already-relegated Hellas Verona.

Juventus still have a three-point lead over fifth-placed Como, but Roma will move just one point behind the Old Lady if they beat Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico tonight.

During his post-match interviews, Spalletti clearly explained what the club should be looking for in the summer.

“We’re lacking a bit of real quality in tight spaces, in that area of the attacking midfield,” Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia via Gazzetta.

“What we are missing is an attacking midfielder who is good in tight spaces, because that area in front of the opponents’ penalty box becomes like a swamp, and if things don’t come off, you start forcing plays, which increases frustration and difficulties.”

Juventus have already begun negotiations with Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva, who won’t extend his expiring contract with the Premier League giants and is therefore available on a free transfer.

According to Football Insider, the Bianconeri have also set their sights on Bernardo Silva’s teammate Reijnders, a former Milan star, who has been struggling for playing time in his first season at Etihad Stadium, especially in recent weeks.

Spalletti has also asked for greater quality in central defence, suggesting the club should try to sign a ball-playing centre-back.

“Certain traits shape the team,” he concluded.

“We have Bremer and Kelly, who are two excellent defenders individually, strong on duels, physical and solid defensively, but perhaps they give something away when it comes to building from the back.”

Inter eye Palestra and Liverpool’s Leoni in summer rebuild after Scudetto triumph

4 May 2026 at 18:26

Inter Milan are already planning their summer transfer business after clinching the Scudetto, with president Beppe Marotta having made clear the club intend to strengthen their Italian core with young, homegrown talent, though departures will shape how aggressively they can move.

Marotta set out his vision clearly in the aftermath of the title win.

“We have very clear ideas on how to act, thanks also to dialogue with the ownership, who will set the economic guidelines,” he said. “It is important to have a solid core of Italians. We need to continue and look at who the best young Italian players are.”

But who have the Nerazzurri been linked with and how can Marotta realistically strengthen Chivu’s side for the next campaign?

Marco Palestra and Giovanni Leoni among Inter summer targets

The name most readily associated with that approach is Marco Palestra. The winger is currently on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta and has long been admired by Inter, who face the potential departure of Denzel Dumfries this summer.

Palestra fits Marotta’s blueprint precisely, young, Italian, and highly rated. Prising him from Atalanta will not come cheap, however, with his valuation already reported at around €40 million.

Marotta acknowledged the difficulty himself. “Unfortunately he is not ours, but he is a player of great future,” he said. “Alongside young Italians, we will also target experienced foreigners capable of bringing a winning culture.”

With Premier League clubs keen on the Atalanta-owned wing-back, Inter could find themselves quickly priced out of a move, even after comfortably winning Serie A this season.

Giovanni Leoni is another name on the Nerazzurri’s radar.

Inter were keen on the teenage defender last summer before Liverpool moved quickly to sign him, and the connection runs deeper now that Chivu, who coached Leoni at Parma, is in charge at Appiano Gentile.

A serious injury sustained in September kept Leoni out for much of the season, and should Liverpool consider moving him on, Inter are expected to be among the frontrunners.

A return to Italy could be the sensible move for the youngster’s career, away from the pressures of the Premier League.

Leoni has spoken warmly of Chivu’s influence. “When he arrived at Parma we were in a bad way,” the defender said. “He is brilliant at building relationships with players. He would never speak badly of you publicly.”

On the departures side, Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian are both set to leave, while the futures of Stefan de Vrij, also out of contract, and Dumfries remain unresolved. How Inter navigate those exits will go a long way to determining the scale of their summer recruitment.

FIFA President Infantino celebrates Inter’s title win with one-word message – watch

4 May 2026 at 18:06

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, a notorious Inter fan, celebrated the Nerazzurri’s Serie A title victory on social media with a one-word message: ‘Amala.’

FIFA President Infantino posted an Instagram story on Sunday night to celebrate Inter’s Scudetto victory.

The Nerazzurri put their hands on their 21st Scudetto in history, beating Parma 2-0 at San Siro on Sunday.

It was a long night of celebrations in Milan, first at the Stadio Mezza and then in Piazza Duomo, where thousands of Nerazzurri supporters were joined by players late at night.

Infantino shared a video of Inter fans celebrating in Piazza Duomo, captioning it with the fans’ favourite motto: ‘Amala.’

“I’ve been a total football fan since I was a child. I have many idols. I remember the World Cup in Spain in 1982. Italy won it, with Paolo Rossi and that whole team of great players,” Infantino said in March.

“For me, it was spectacular. I was a 12-year-old boy at the time. That team and that moment are engraved in my heart. I’m also a supporter of Inter. One of my first idols – perhaps not well known in Spain – was Evaristo Beccalossi, a No. 10 who didn’t play in that World Cup or with the national team because the coach had other plans. Inter’s No. 10 made us dream and sometimes… also some things that can’t be said. I remember Alessandro Altobelli scoring a goal in the final. His third goal and the celebration against Germany were spectacular.”

Milan goal-scoring crisis: worst season in the last 10 years

4 May 2026 at 17:47

Milan have only netted 48 goals in 2025-26, resulting in their worst scoring season in the last 10 years.

Milan have only won one of their last five Serie A matches, collecting just four points in the process.

Their 2-0 loss to Sassuolo on Sunday risks jeopardising their Champions League place, as the Rossoneri have only five points more than Como with three games remaining, and Roma will move three points behind them if they beat Fiorentina tonight.

With 48 goals scored in 35 matches, Milan are expected to terminate the campaign with the worst scoring record in the last decade.

MilanNews has reported the worrying numbers for Milan’s strikers in the second part of the campaign.

USMNT star Christian Pulisic has not scored a goal in the last 126 days, being scoreless since December 28, 2025.

January signing Niclas Füllkrug scored his most recent goal on January 18, 2026. Christopher Nkunku has not scored a goal in 69 days (February 3, 2026 against Bologna).

Last but not least, Rafael Leao has not scored a goal since March 1, when the Rossoneri won 2-0 over Cremonese.

Inter president Marotta: ‘I won’t deny Barcelona want Bastoni’

4 May 2026 at 16:07

Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta has addressed speculation linking Alessandro Bastoni with Barcelona, insisting the defender is content at the club despite concrete interest yet to materialise, as the Nerazzurri savour a third Scudetto title in five years.

According to comments made by Marotta on Radio Anch’Io Sport, the president was candid about the situation surrounding the Italy international.

“He is a great talent,” Marotta said, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb.

“He was unlucky in certain episodes. Everyone had their eyes on him. He made that naive mistake against Juventus with the simulation, he was the first to admit it, but we protected him. He is a great champion. I won’t deny there is interest from Barcelona, but nothing concrete yet. A player leaves if he expresses the desire to go. At this moment he is happy to be with us and we are happy with him.”

Marotta bullish on Inter’s Italian core ahead of title defence

Bastoni’s situation will dominate the summer agenda at Inter, but Marotta was equally forthcoming on broader ambitions.

On strengthening the squad’s Italian nucleus, he said: “Italy produces talent. We want to build a solid core of Italians, some are getting older so it is right to add more. For the Scudetto, you need a core who understands Italian football.”

Marotta also confirmed the Champions League remains a personal obsession.

“I have reached four finals and unfortunately lost them all,” he admitted. “It is something I still want to achieve, but next year we will try to improve in that competition.”

Juventus defender Bremer takes responsibility for error in Verona draw

4 May 2026 at 15:27

Gleison Bremer has publicly apologised after a costly defensive mistake contributed to Juventus dropping points in a home draw against Verona, with the Brazilian centre-back admitting he should have done better.

Bremer’s error came when he attempted to play out from the back inside his own penalty area, looking to find Pierre Kalulu, but the pass was intercepted by Bradaric.

The Verona winger immediately fed Bowie, who was left unmarked and beat Di Gregorio at his near post to give the visitors the lead.

Bremer admits he must do better after Juventus slip-up

Taking to Instagram shortly after the final whistle, the defender offered a direct apology. “Today, due to a miscommunication, the mistake was mine,” Bremer wrote.

“I take full responsibility, no excuses. I should have done better. Now more united than ever, until the end.”

It was not an isolated struggle on the evening. Bremer was reported to have had a difficult night dealing with Bowie throughout, frequently coming off second best in aerial duels and physical battles.

Head coach Luciano Spalletti also addressed the error after the match, acknowledging it as a known limitation in his side’s game.

“Bremer and Kelly are two great defenders in terms of individual quality and in one-v-one duels,” Spalletti said. “But in terms of building from the back they do concede something, these are aspects we have to live with.”

The slip is likely to reignite scrutiny of Bremer’s composure in possession, and will also bring renewed attention to comments the defender made in a press conference weeks earlier.

“At Juventus they have been treading water for six years and that cannot happen,” he said at the time. “It is important to go back to winning. To be considered champions you have to win, and I want to win.”

Chivu’s assistant taunts Inter’s rivals: ‘They were on the sofa’

4 May 2026 at 15:13

Cristian Chivu’s assistant coach, Aleksandar Kolarov, mentioned last season’s Champions League Final defeat during a post-match press conference on Sunday: ‘In football, it happens. The other teams were on the sofa watching what Inter would do.’

Inter are celebrating their 21st Scudetto following a 2-0 win over Parma on Sunday.

The Nerazzurri only needed one draw to win the title with three games to spare, but still secured a victory with goals from Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

Football Italia was among the accredited media at San Siro, covering the build-up, the game, and all post-match celebrations.

Inter coach Chivu didn’t speak to reporters at full-time, leaving the stage to his staff members, including assistant coach Kolarov, who answered most of the journalists’ questions.

“We’ve believed in our job from the beginning. The lads were excellent in accepting our requests,” Kolarov said.

“It was easy to work with them. They’ve immediately made themselves available and reacted after a few losses. Let me add a few words about last season’s loss [in the Champions League Final]. In football, it happens.

“Journalists say it was a total disaster, but other teams didn’t even get there. Other teams were on the sofa watching what Inter would do. The lads have already made themselves available. We used their quality, not just in footballing terms. Men make the difference.”

Inter appointed Chivu last summer after seeing Simone Inzaghi by mutual agreement following a 5-0 defeat in the Champions League Final against PSG.

Italy legend: Replacing Iran at 2026 World Cup would be ‘humiliating’

4 May 2026 at 14:44

Italy legend Fulvio Collovati insists that seeing the Azzurri replace Iran at the 2026 World Cup would be ‘humiliating.’

Italy have failed to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, but there are reports that the Azzurri could still be heading to the tournament to replace Iran, especially after Paolo Zampolli’s recent claims.

“Some people pushed these ideas more on a political level than a sporting one. Honestly, I never even considered them,” Collovati told Scommesse.io.

Collovati: ‘Humiliating’ to see Italy at World Cup

“It would be humiliating from a sporting perspective. In sport, what matters is the field and the result. You can’t get there through shortcuts. Italy have not qualified for the last three World Cups, and that’s no coincidence. It can happen once, even twice, but the third time means there are serious problems. Before those three missed qualifications, we had been knocked out in the first round twice in a row. It’s a crisis that has lasted for 20 years, since 2006. Before thinking about being admitted to the World Cup, we need to think about reforms.

“You can change all the people you want, but without reforms, nothing will change,” continued the 1982 Italy World Cup winner.

“We need to intervene in youth development, invest in young players, and require clubs to include them in the squads and actually play them in Serie A. Otherwise, we’ll keep standing still in the same place.”

Dimarco dedicates Inter’s title to ‘those who said I was finished’

4 May 2026 at 14:07

Inter star Federico Dimarco admits the 2025-26 Serie A title ‘means so much’ after last season’s disappointments and dedicates the Scudetto to ‘those who said I was finished.’

Inter are celebrating the 21st Scudetto in their history, the second in the last three years.

Dimarco: ‘Special to see Milan coloured in black and blue’

It’s the first Scudetto for Cristian Chivu, who has become the first foreign coach to win the Serie A title since José Mourinho in 2010.

Dimarco has been one of the standout performers this season, having contributed to 25 goals across all competitions.

“It’s an amazing feeling. To see Milan coloured in black and blue is special,” the Italian defender told InterTV via FcInter1908.

“It tastes like a restart after the bad disappointments of last season. We have restarted with the team and staff members. We have worked hard and crowned the dream of the 21st Scudetto.

“We are a united team, and we were united in difficult moments too, when we were being beaten from every direction. We always showed up, and now we enjoy this title. It means so much after what happened last year. I dedicate it to all the people who are close to me, especially those who said I was finished at the end of last season.”

Dimarco was among the Inter stars who headed to Piazza Duomo at late light on Sunday to celebrate with the Inter supporters in the city’s main square.

Will Dybala light up the Superclasico in 2026-27?

4 May 2026 at 13:50

Recent reports suggest that Paulo Dybala will switch from Roma to Boca Juniors in the summer, which means La Joya will be one of the stars to watch in the Superclasico against River Plate in 2026-27.

Dybala’s Roma contract expires at the end of the season, and it is no secret that the Argentine star, a 2022 World Cup winner, is attracted by the idea of playing for Boca Juniors one day.

His possible move to the Bombonera will likely have a big impact on Bet on Superclasico, as Dybala has been one of the best players in Serie A and across Europe in the last decade.

The exciting attacker has scored 131 goals in 366 Serie A matches playing for Palermo, Juventus and Roma in Italy’s top flight.

His latest season at the Stadio Olimpico has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just 23 appearances across all competitions and three goals.

Nevertheless, Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini is reportedly willing to keep the Argentine at the Stadio Olimpico for at least one more season, prompting the club to offer him a new deal.

Dybala joined Roma on a free transfer from Juventus in the summer of 2022 and has scored 45 goals in 136 games with the Giallorossi.

Gasperini has often praised Dybala in the current campaign, especially in the first half, when the Argentine was deployed as a false nine before Donyell Malen’s move from Aston Villa.

“Playing as an attacking midfielder can become complicated when he has his physical troubles, as we’ve unfortunately discovered over this period,” Gasp said at the end of December 2025.

“I’ve always hoped to have him and have counted on him, because the value of our team increases when he is in that position. The whole attack benefits.

“It’s difficult to come across another player of (Dybala’s) quality. If he has problems, there aren’t really any like-for-like replacements.

“If [Evan] Ferguson wants to take a step forward, remembering that he is 21 years old and still very young, he has to improve not on his technical level, but on that hunger, desire, understanding where he plays and how to make the most out of his weapons.”

Dybala has recently admitted that he’d love to play for Boca Juniors in the future, where he’d reunite with his friend and former teammate Leandro Paredes.

“It would be fantastic,” he said (via SportMediaset).

“Today I play for Roma, and I have to defend this shirt, but you never know what might happen.”

Dybala has only played at the club level in Argentina and Italy, rising through the Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba academy before joining Palermo in 2012.

Chivu is first foreign coach to win Scudetto since Mourinho

4 May 2026 at 12:50

Cristian Chivu has become the first foreign coach to win the Serie A title since José Mourinho in 2010, when the current Inter boss was a player under the Special One at the Stadio Meazza.

Inter secured their 21st Scudetto on Sunday, beating Parma 2-0 at San Siro.

Chivu has won the Serie A title in his first season at San Siro and his first full campaign in Italy’s top flight, having previously coached Parma for only 13 matches last term.

The Romanian tactician has become the first foreign coach to win the Scudetto since Mourinho in the 2009-10 campaign.

Back then, Mou not only won the Serie A title but also grabbed a legendary treble, with Chivu as one of the regular starters on that team.

Serie A: Roma vs. Fiorentina – probable line-ups, where to watch on TV

4 May 2026 at 12:22

Gian Piero Gasperini’s Roma host Fiorentina at the Stadio Olimpico tonight, with Matias Soulé, Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen expected to start up front for the Giallorossi.

It kicks off at 20:45 CET (19:45 BST) at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, and it’s the final round of Serie A Week 35.

Milan, Juventus and Como have dropped points in this round, so Roma have a good chance to move one point behind the Bianconeri in fourth.

Fiorentina, on the other hand, sit 16th with a nine-point lead over 18th-placed Cremonese, who will host Lazio at 18:00 CET.

Roma must cope without the suspended El Aynaoui and the injured Artem Dovbyk, Evan Ferguson, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Zaragoza.

According to several sources, including Sky Sport Italia, Argentine star Dybala is fit to start up front for the Giallorossi, and so is Manu Koné in central midfield.

The Tuscans have travelled to Florence without Tariq Lamptey, Luis Balbo, Niccolò Fortini, Moise Kean and Roberto Piccoli.

Roma vs. Fiorentina – Where to watch on TV

The match will be shown on DAZN in the UK and Ireland and on Paramount+ in the USA. Football Italia will provide live updates via a liveblog.

Roma vs. Fiorentina – probable line-ups

Roma (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Mancini, Ndicka, Hermoso; Celik, Cristante, Koné, Wesley; Soulé, Dybala; Malen.

Thuram had scored the opening goal in a 2-0 win over Parma, which allowed the Nerazzurri to win the Scudetto with three games to spare.

Right after the match, Thuram posted an Instagram picture showing him with two Scudetto trophies, those he won during his time at the Stadio Meazza.

Scudetto Stars: Five Key Figures in Inter’s Triumph

4 May 2026 at 10:00

It was not always plain sailing, but in the end, Inter emerged as worthy Serie A champions. Giancarlo Rinaldi gives out his grades to some of the vital cogs in their title win.

It would be simplistic to say the Italian league was all but decided by New Year’s Day, but there’s a grain of truth in that assessment. Inter hit the top of the table shortly after Christmas and never really looked back. While others stumbled around them, the Nerazzurri showed that – at least on the home front – they could be the side to beat for some time to come unless other big clubs get their house in order or new challengers emerge. Here are the ratings of some of the most important figures in their 21st Scudetto.

Inter win 2025-26 Serie A title: the most influential figures

Christian Chivu 7.5/10 – Simone Inzaghi was a hard act to follow, and initially it looked like the Romanian might not be up to the job. Early defeats to Juventus and Napoli suggested he was fine against the league’s lesser lights but perhaps still learning against fellow giants. To a degree that persisted throughout the season, but not enough to dent their rise to the top. A big win over Como showed they meant business, and they set a pretty relentless pace. Europe and the Italian Supercup were disappointing, but with a potential double on the cards, thanks to a Coppa Italia final with Lazio, he surely deserves more than pass marks.

Federico Dimarco 9/10 – Fans of the Italian national team might beg to differ, but for his club side, this was an unforgettable season for the flying fullback. He was already an amazing attacking option for his team, but his 18 assists this term – the best ever in Serie A since records began – took him to another level. Little wonder Marcus Thuram felt it necessary to polish his teammate’s boots after setting up yet another goal. Add to that a few goals of his own, and you can see why, especially with his partner in crime, Denzel Dumfries, out injured on the other flank for a long spell, he was one of the main architects of Inter’s success.

Manuel Akanji 7.5/10 – There is an accepted wisdom that defenders coming from the Premier League can struggle to adjust to the Italian game, but the Swiss international did not seem to have too many problems. He quickly became a stalwart on Chivu’s side just as he had previously done with Manchester City. He definitely made the biggest impact among any of the new arrivals at the club, and it is perhaps no surprise that there is speculation that he and Yann Bisseck could become the favoured centre-back pairing for a while to come.

Lautaro Martinez 8/10 – Even operating on a part-time basis, he remained a fundamental part of this Scudetto side, both from the touchline barking instructions and when he could get on the pitch to strut his stuff. His goal haul despite struggling with injuries tells part of the story but a more significant slice comes from what he adds to the overall teamplay. Simply one of the best link-up forwards in the business, he is capable of scoring goals and setting them up for others. The Nerazzurri will be praying they can hold on to him and that he has a season with a clean bill of health.

Francesco Pio Esposito 7/10 – Although he didn’t feature all that often or for a full 90 minutes, he was still definitely a bright spot this campaign. At a club more known for its old stagers than its youthful appearance, he was a breath of fresh air. His attitude, effort and will to learn helped him cope through periods when his more experienced counterparts were sidelined. In an era when very few young Italians get a chance anywhere – never mind with a title-winning team – this was a first step in what will hopefully be a very long and successful career.

Chivu: ‘Inter historic success, tried to draw on career as player’

4 May 2026 at 02:16

Cristian Chivu jokes he was ‘already in the Inter history books’ as a player with the Treble, and tried to ‘draw on that experience’ with his squad as a coach. ‘I lost my ego during a life and death moment.’

You can follow the Scudetto celebrations on the special Inter Liveblog.

Chivu won the Treble with Inter as a player in 2010, then started his coaching career with the club’s youth academy, where he worked with Francesco Pio Esposito.

He was not the first choice for the job, as many reported that they had first approached Cesc Fabregas, but the Romanian has secured their 21st Scudetto.

When told he is in the Inter history books, he replied with his usual dry humour.

“I think I already was before,” smiled Chivu on DAZN Italia.

“I had done a few things as a player… But I am happy for these lads, for this club, for these marvellous fans who supported us from the start.

“I won’t say the whole narrative from last season, the mockery and denigration of this group, but the lads did well to roll their sleeves up, be reborn, and find what it took for a new competitive season.

“This is the 21st title and another page in the glorious history of this club. I was younger then, I’ve got some grey hair now, but I am just as happy as when I was a player. The players deserve the credit today, they were marvellous.”

The Nerazzurri ended last season empty-handed and saw Simone Inzaghi walk away before the Club World Cup, bringing in Chivu after just a few weeks of senior management at Parma.

Few expected him to march to the Serie A title with three games to spare, and potentially set up a Double, seeing as they will play Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final on May 13.

“For what this club represents, it was our duty to be competitive. There are ups and downs, the season is a marathon, and we were the most consistent team overall, even after losing a few games, because we always managed to react and get back on our feet,” added Chivu.

“I think in January and February we had 14 wins in 15 games, or something like that, we realised that we could do it. We also had to overcome difficult moments like the Champions League exit to Bodo/Glimt, defeat in the derby, but we always kept our heads up with dignity and the desire to be competitive to the end.”

MILAN, ITALY - MAY 03: Lautaro Martinez of FC Internazionale Milano celebrates with his teammates after being confirmed as Serie A champions following victory in the Serie A match between FC Internazionale and Parma Calcio 1913 at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium on May 03, 2026 in Milan, Italy. A draw would’ve been enough tonight against Parma, but Inter did better with a 2-0 victory thanks to Marcus Thuram’s fifth game in a row on target, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan tapping in the Lautaro Martinez assist.

“Obviously I am happy, and it’s only right the players take the credit, enjoying all the love and affection of these fans. It was an opportunity to seal the Scudetto in front of the supporters and we did it.”

Chivu seemed to vanish into the tunnel at one point straight after the final whistle, did he want to leave all the spotlight for his players?

“I went to smoke a cigarette, I have some vices, sorry about that. But yes, they deserve it, so does the club, which always tried to comfort and support us in moments of need.”

Where does the coach feel he stepped up and made the difference for his squad?

“I am an unusual person, I had to talk to myself during a moment between life and death, so I lost my ego then. I don’t feel the need to talk about myself,” replied Chivu.

He was referring to the life-changing head injury suffered while playing for Inter, which forced him to wear a protective helmet for the rest of his career.

“I just try to be the best version of myself, to help these lads who sometimes need the carrot, sometimes the stick. I try to draw on the experience I had in many locker rooms, and try not to repeat the errors I dealt with as a player.

“I try to be empathetic, understanding, not to think about the consensus of critics outside, but only on what those who love me think. I am the coach, I will always be up for debate and at risk, that’s the job. You have to accept it, knowing you can only try to do your best. I want to also thank my staff, they are in the same boat as me.”

Traditionally, Serie A is won by the team with the best defence, but Chivu and Inter focused on getting the best attack with over 100 goals.

“We always wanted to be proactive, then depending on the opponents, we had different options, like two playmakers, dealing with their press. It’s also about understanding various moments of the game.

“My predecessors did a great job here too, so if these lads know certain things about the game, it is also thanks to those coaches who came before me, who made it easier for me and my staff. It is the players who win the titles and give you what you dreamed of as a child.”

Chivu managed to win the Scudetto up against legends like Antonio Conte, Max Allegri and Luciano Spalletti.

“They are great coaches and I can only learn from them. I will continue learning from them, those coaches who are young like me can only keep learning,” concluded Chivu.

Marotta: ‘Chivu must remain with Inter for many years’

4 May 2026 at 01:43

Beppe Marotta won the 10th Scudetto of his career, but the first as Inter President, and insists Cristian Chivu ‘must remain for many years.’

You can follow the Scudetto celebrations on the special Inter Liveblog.

Although he had won the Serie A title nine times before at Juventus and Inter, this was his first as President.

“It is certainly different and a dream come true,” Marotta told DAZN Italia.

“I honestly never dreamed of winning as President of Inter, it is something remarkable. I thank the Presidents who preceded me, and who inspired me, like Pellegrini, Moratti, Zhang. I also thank the fans and the owners, who have allowed us to work in a calm atmosphere.

“However, this Scudetto belongs to Chivu and the team.”

Marotta oversaw Inter turnaround

The Nerazzurri had needed a complete reboot after ending last season empty-handed, losing the Champions League Final, the Scudetto by one point, the Supercoppa Italiana Final and the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Simone Inzaghi walked away too, but Cristian Chivu was drafted in as a surprise choice just days before the Club World Cup kicked off with very little senior management experience.

He has taken them to the Serie A title and they still have to play the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio on May 13.

“As Inzaghi also confirmed the contract termination by mutual consent was on Monday and on the Tuesday we decided to go for Chivu,” assured Marotta.

“It was a courageous choice, but a considered one too, because Chivu already had the curriculum as a player winning the Treble here, of being the Ajax captain at age 21, of winning with the Inter youth team as coach, and also of taking Parma to safety.

“We had no doubts on his skills, so perhaps he was lacking a little in experience, but we supported him to cover this gap in his CV. He can and must remain at Inter for many years, as he has great qualities.”

There were some moments during this season when they hit obstacles, repeatedly falling down in the big games and eliminated from the Champions League by Bodo/Glimt in the play-offs.

“After a slightly negative period where the performances were still strong, we realised the team was united and the coach was their leader,” explained Marotta.

“I never fired a coach during a season because the coach is a fundamental component who must be helped. Too often, people make instinctive decisions and the coach pays the price for others, but that is not the way we do things.

“We have a different culture, and besides, there was no reason to make a change. We knew his value and that of the team.”

Now Inter are preparing for next season, so has Chivu asked for any specific new signings?

“We speak very often, and this is not the right time to talk about it now, but we do have some clear ideas,” replied the President.

“The owners will set the financial guardrails, but I am confident because we have a solid core of Italian players in this squad. We also want to look around for the best Italian talents on the market.”

Might he be referring to Atalanta-owned Marco Palestra, currently on loan at Cagliari?

“He has a great future ahead of him, but he is not our player.”

Someone whose future is up in the air is Alessandro Bastoni, who has been heavily linked with Barcelona and Liverpool.

“We need the right mix of youth and experience, those players who bring the winning culture and motivation.”

Lautaro Martinez: ‘Not easy after Inter season, saw some things I didn’t like’

4 May 2026 at 01:24

Lautaro Martinez admits Inter needed ‘a change’ with Cristian Chivu replacing Simone Inzaghi, but does not regret his harsh words on the path to the Scudetto.

A point would’ve been sufficient this evening against Parma to be mathematically sure of the title, but they went one better with a 2-0 victory thanks to Marcus Thuram’s fifth consecutive Serie A game on target and a Henrikh Mkhitaryan tap-in on Lautaro Martinez’s assist.

There was tension over the summer when ending the campaign empty-handed, going into the Club World Cup with new coach Cristian Chivu after Simone Inzaghi walked away.

The Argentine also hit out at some of his teammates, most notably Hakan Calhanoglu, demanding that only those who truly want to remain should do so.

Lautaro Martinez did not hold back

“What I said at that moment was what I felt and had been holding inside me. I didn’t plan it, I just saw some things I didn’t like, and I say what I think,” Lautaro Martinez told DAZN Italia.

“We feel so happy now. It was not easy to start again after a season where we lost all the competitions we were in right at the end, but I am very happy today with this achievement.

“It was a very important objective for us, perhaps many didn’t see us being favourites considering what happened last term, but we worked so hard on and off the field.”

This is the first time in 37 years that Inter have managed to secure the Scudetto at San Siro, as the fixture list so often had them away from home when learning of their success.

The team also scored over 100 goals this season, making them something of an anomaly in Italian football.

“We have for many years been doing very well in Italy and Europe, reaching two Champions League Finals in three years. We must continue along this path, because the most important thing after winning is to keep trying to do better,” added the Argentina international.

“In such a balanced league as this, we managed to keep focused as a group, and this is the most wonderful thing that I am impressed by, the unity of this team.”

Chivu was not the first choice for the job and had very little Serie A experience as a coach, but was rushed in ahead of the Club World Cup and made a huge impact.

“The coach did so well bringing fresh energy, enthusiasm, so after four great years with Simone, perhaps we needed a change of scenery after that Champions League Final. Chivu made sure everyone felt involved and could even train with a smile, that really helped.”

It’s not over yet, as Inter can do the Double when they face Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final at the Stadio Olimpico on May 13, while Lautaro Martinez can also be Capocannoniere.

“There’s always more space in the trophy cabinet! This is my mentality and that of Inter, so I am very proud to wear this shirt.”

Inter fans posted two cryptic banners seconds after the end of their home game against Parma on Sunday, which gave the Nerazzurri their 21st Scudetto.

Inter are celebrating their 21st Scudetto after a 2-0 home win over Parma on Sunday.

Football Italia is among the accredited media at San Siro, following the game and celebrations, which have been ongoing since kickoff, as the Nerazzurri only needed one point to mathematically clinch the Scudetto with three games to spare.

Inter fans in Curva Sud, so opposite to the Ultras’ Curva Nord, put up two banners immediately after full-time.

Inter have won their 21st Scudetto, yet their main banner showed a big No. 14 on a Tricolore background.

The banner just underneath read: “+7 against everything and everyone”, referring to seven of Inter’s previous title victories won despite controversial refereeing incidents.

Barella and Thuram: ‘Inter always get back on our feet’

Marcus Thuram and Nicolò Barella insist the genuine bond between players is what gave Inter the strength to ‘get back on our feet’ after ending the season empty-handed, going on to win the Scudetto.

The Nerazzurri knew going into tonight’s game with Parma at San Siro that they only needed a point to guarantee the Serie A title.

They did even better, as Thuram ran onto the Piotr Zielinski through ball to beat Zion Suzuki on the stroke of half-time, then Henrikh Mkhitaryan turned in the Lautaro Martinez assist.

Inter take 21st Serie A title

“Barella is one of the best players in the world, he can do so much, he helped Inter and Italy, in my view he is the best Italian player. I never understood when he was doubted by some people,” Thuram told DAZN Italia.

“He got angry on and off the field, he is one of our captains, and we must not forget that. Since I arrived at Inter, I saw a team that loves to stay together, on and off the field, and that is our strength.”

So many had said that the Inter era was over after they ended last season empty-handed, losing the Champions League Final 5-0 and missing out on the Scudetto by one point to Napoli.

Simone Inzaghi’s departure also raised doubts, but Cristian Chivu has taken them to the title with three rounds to spare, and potentially also a Double, as they face Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final on May 13.

“Of course we’re happy! As we always said, this was our objective, we have another in just over a week’s time, this was not easy, but we want to enjoy it now,” Barella told DAZN Italia.

“This is football and life, there are difficult moments, for example last season we came so close to everything and won nothing. In life you must always get back on your feet and I want to thank these lads and the staff, they helped me during tough moments, and I try to give my all.

“I always said that you can make mistakes on the field, but this team never lost the desire to stay together. We always gave everything we had, you can win or lose, but I am so proud of these lads.”

Serie A | Inter 2-0 Parma: Champions of Italy crowned with victory!

4 May 2026 at 00:40

Inter are the Champions of Italy for the 21st time, as Marcus Thuram and Henrikh Mkhitaryan secured the 2-0 victory over Parma to get the party started at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri knew just a point here would suffice to celebrate the title after Napoli’s 0-0 draw at Como, but while Hakan Calhanoglu and Luis Henrique were injured, Lautaro Martinez was back on the bench, and Alessandro Bastoni had his first start in three weeks. The Ducali already secured Serie A safety and could relax, missing Matija Frigan and Benja Cremaschi.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

An early Denzel Dumfries glancing header flashed inches wide from the Nicolò Barella cross, but Parma also wasted a chance to take the lead when Mateo Pellegrino got the volley wrong from 12 yards on the Adrian Bernabé cross from the right.

Inter could not have come closer on 26 minutes when a well-worked move set up Barella for the scorching finish off the crossbar, it bounced off Zion Suzuki’s back, but the goalkeeper managed to scramble the rebound off the feet of Marcus Thuram from point-blank range.

Dumfries had a shot charged down by Abdoulaye Ndiaye following another give-and-go, but Inter broke the deadlock in first half stoppages. Thuram sprung the offside trap on the Piotr Zielinski through ball, took a touch and swept in with the inside of the right boot from seven yards. It was the Frenchman’s fifth consecutive Serie A match on target.

Pio Esposito went off with a back injury, replaced by former Parma striker Ange-Yoan Bonny for the restart, while Lautaro Martinez also made an appearance for the final 25 minutes.

Dimarco almost added another assist to his record-breaking campaign, but Henrikh Mkhitaryan failed to tap in at the back post from six yards, allowing Hans Nicolussi Caviglia to scramble it clear.

Another Dimarco roll across from the right was fired over by Dumfries at full stretch, while Lautaro Martinez cut inside a defender to bend the finish into the arms of Suzuki.

The second goal arrived when Lautaro Martinez sprung the offside trap down the right and rolled it across for Mkhitaryan to tap in from five yards.

Nesta Elphege had the ball in the net late on for Parma, but only after Pontus Almqvist had wandered offside for the assist.

Davide Frattesi nearly got a goal moments after coming on for Barella, but his volley on yet another Dimarco cross squirmed under Suzuki, the keeper preventing it from crossing the line completely.

Video: Thuram celebration goes awry with 5th game in a row on target

3 May 2026 at 23:54

Watch as Marcus Thuram gets the Inter party started against Parma, finding the net for the fifth game in a row, but the celebration didn’t go entirely to plan.

The Nerazzurri went into tonight’s match knowing a point would be enough to be mathematically crowned the new Champions of Italy, putting them beyond reach of second-placed Napoli.

You can follow all the action as it happens on the Liveblog.

Spalletti: ‘Juventus disappointed and have regrets’ after surprising 1-1

3 May 2026 at 23:05

Luciano Spalletti admits Juventus are ‘disappointed and have regrets’ after a surprising 1-1 draw with Verona, along with tension on the touchline with director Sean Sogliano.

This was a huge opportunity to catch Milan in third place after the Rossoneri were beaten 2-0 by Sassuolo earlier today, with Napoli and Como also dropping points in the fight for the top four.

It was assumed that Juve would sweep Verona aside in Turin, especially as Hellas had already been mathematically relegated on Friday night and had nothing to play for.

Instead, Kieron Bowie put them ahead and only a Dusan Vlahovic free kick off the bench managed to snatch a 1-1 draw for the Old Lady.

Spalletti frustrated with Juventus errors

“We must always evaluate what happens, analyse things, and then try to improve for the next matches, because those are the ones that matter now, seeing as we didn’t win this one,” Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia.

“Clearly, we are disappointed, we have regrets, and unfortunately this happens in football. We were not fortunate, and with a little more sharpness we could’ve turned it around, even if you cannot always control everything.

“What we can do is stay clear-headed in the moments that matter, and we didn’t do it today. That is one of the qualities that makes a great player, because you can identify those moments where you’ve got to be fully concentrated.”

The coach had warned before kick-off that this was the kind of game where the risk was having 11 great players rather than a team unit.

“I thought we had started quite well, but then Verona locked it down, as is only right for them to do. We created some dangers, but couldn’t break through the right way, then allowed them a few counter-attacks, plus that error which made it all the more difficult.

“The tension cranked up after that, you have the fear of not making it, when everyone is telling you it’s an easy game and you discover it isn’t easy at all,” continued the coach.

“We make mistakes that you see from kids, things that are too banal to be at this level, then in the second half you pin them back and have great moments of football that deserve to win a match.

“We played our game and I think overall we did deserve to win it.”

It was a frustrating evening, as Francisco Conceicao looked furious when substituted after a couple of good chances, while Edon Zhegrova hit the upright in stoppages.

It is remarkable that when the race for a Champions League spot could go down to the wire, Juventus were held to a pair of 1-1 draws by Verona this season.

Of course, both teams had different coaches during the first meeting, as Igor Tudor and Paolo Zanetti were both replaced.

If Roma beat Fiorentina tomorrow, then they will close to within a point of Juve in fifth place.

There was tension in the closing stages when Verona director Sean Sogliano was sent off from the touchline for dissent, then complained bitterly in the press interviews just before Spalletti took to the microphones.

“I don’t understand what the director was talking about,” noted the Juventus coach.

“I will go and see what he was complaining about, but I really don’t understand it, he was a little cryptic, but we never got up from the bench to complain whenever his players stayed down for 30 seconds after every foul, tried to use up every available second on throw-ins, it’s all a bit much.”

Verona director hits out at Juventus: ‘If I say what I think, I’d have to stop working’

3 May 2026 at 23:03

Hellas Verona sporting director Sean Sogliano was unhappy with the attitude from Juventus players and staff members during a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium: ‘If I say what I really think, I’d probably have to stop working.’

Verona held Juventus to a 1-1 draw in Turin on Sunday despite already being relegated to Serie B.

The Gialloblu even took the lead in the first half, but Dusan Vlahovic levelled the score after being introduced as a substitute in the second half.

As usual, Verona director Sogliano followed the match from the touchline alongside Verona reserves and staff members, but the director was sent off for dissent in the very last minute after the referee had awarded a free kick to Juventus.

Safe to say, Sogliano was unhappy with the attitude of the Bianconeri players and staff.

“I was sent off today as well because I saw things I don’t like,” he told Sky Sport via FcInter1908.

“We are talking about culture and the fact that we’re not going to the World Cup. Here it’s always the same story. Even against an already-relegated team, I heard things I don’t want to repeat, because if I say what I really think, I’d probably have to stop working.

“A strong team that complains about the referee when, in a minute, fans would have been putting the ball in the net for them,” Sogliano continued.

“Verona showed pride and earned a point. And if someone gets sent off for losing their temper over certain things, film both benches; then we’ll have something to talk about besides VAR. I’m saying this as someone who’s already been relegated, so nobody really cares. I’m going home with my players and the club because we’re people with pride.”

Today’s draw leaves Juventus in fourth, four points above Roma, who have a game in hand against Fiorentina on Monday.

Juventus fans boo David after substitution vs. Verona

3 May 2026 at 22:33

Juventus fans booed Jonathan David when he was substituted in the second half of a 1-1 draw against Hellas Verona on Sunday.

Juventus fans showed their discontent towards Canada striker David on Sunday as the 26-year-old was booed while being subbed off in a home game against already-relegated Verona.

David started the match and was subbed off at minute 70, with the score already 1-1.

As reported by TMW and other media outlets, most Juventus fans were unhappy with the Canadian’s performance and showed their unhappiness when he left the field to make room for Fabio Miretti.

Dusan Vlahovic had been introduced a few minutes earlier, scoring the equaliser for the Bianconeri.

The Serbia international had missed several months of action because of a muscle injury that required surgery in December 2025 and scored his first goal since October.

David is in his first season at Juventus, where he has netted eight goals in 44 appearances across all competitions.

According to Tuttosport, Aston Villa and Fenerbahce are interested in securing his services this summer.

Marotta: ‘Inter showed courage choosing Chivu’

3 May 2026 at 22:32

Inter President Beppe Marotta admits he didn’t expect Cristian Chivu to win the Scudetto in his first season, and potentially the Coppa Italia too. ‘We didn’t go in blind, but showed courage.’

The game with Parma kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens on the Liveblog.

The champagne is on ice in the dressing room, because just one point tonight will be enough to guarantee the Nerazzurri become Champions of Italy.

As Napoli and Milan both dropped points already this weekend, a draw will suffice to get the Scudetto party started.

Marotta ready for Inter success

“Let’s be prudent here. We know that this is the most important exam for the diploma, and we’ll give it our all to achieve this target that would make the fans, players, club and coach happy,” Marotta told DAZN Italia.

“We hope it can be a great game and that is concluded with the Scudetto, but Parma deserve respect.”

Chivu had been a contentious choice when picked to replace Simone Inzaghi, but has proved to be a success with the title and potentially also the Coppa Italia.

“An important value for Inter is courage, I think that is the main fuel behind this decision made by the owners on one side and the management on the other. We certainly didn’t go in blind, we evaluated Chivu’s skills and characteristics, which suited our needs and our weaknesses,” explained the President.

“We had no doubts he would have a positive campaign, but if it ends with the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia, that would be a truly extraordinary season.”

Inter are hoping to make this a Double, because they will face Lazio in the Coppa Italia Final at the Stadio Olimpico on May 13.

However, they haven’t clinched the title on home turf for 37 years, so doing it at San Siro would be a relatively new experience.

“We were optimistic from the start, as Chivu worked in our youth academy, so we knew him as a coach and a person with great values. Admittedly, we didn’t expect him to have such a remarkable season, with the only blotch being that Champions League elimination, but these things happen.

“We are very pleased, because he came up through our youth academy, which adds to the pride of this club.”

This is set to be the 10th Scudetto for Marotta at two different clubs, as he won with both Juventus and Inter, but this would be his first as a club President.

He was asked if he had any updates on the refereeing scandal and the suggestions that Inter did not want certain referees?

“No, I have nothing to add to last week, we are very relaxed and not concerned.”

Serie A | Juventus 1-1 Verona: Vlahovic rescues a point amid regret

3 May 2026 at 21:56

Dusan Vlahovic came off the bench for his first goal of 2026 to rescue a point for Juventus against relegated Verona, but it’s a missed opportunity to go third.

The Bianconeri hoped to make the most of Como, Napoli and Milan dropping points, with Kenan Yildiz back in the starting XI after two games as a substitute and Dusan Vlahovic ready for the bench, leaving only Arek Milik and Juan Cabal out of action. A victory here would’ve put the Old Lady in joint third with Milan. Hellas were already doomed to relegation this weekend, with Nicolas Valentini suspended, Gift Orban frozen out for an altercation with a fan, and Armel Bella-Kotchap, Cheikh Niasse, Daniel Oyegoke, Suat Serdar and Daniel Mosquera injured.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Francisco Conceicao tested Lorenzo Montipò at the near post, then the Kenan Yildiz pull-back for Jonathan David was intercepted, and Andrias Edmundsson threw himself in the path of the David angled drive.

A corner was not cleared very far, so the Pierre Kalulu cross back in was flicked onto the crossbar off Gleison Bremer’s head on 26 minutes.

Manuel Locatelli saw his strike deflected just wide, then the midfielder was perhaps harshly booked for simulation when going down in a coming together with Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro.

Moments later, Verona took the surprise lead when Bremer was caught napping passing out from the back, intercepted by Domagoj Bradaric and rolled across from the left for Kieron Bowie to sweep in. It was all the more remarkable considering Juve had kept four consecutive clean sheets before that gift.

The Scotland international nearly got another when deflected over by Lloyd Kelly, while Edmundsson made another decisive block on Andrea Cambiaso.

Dusan Vlahovic was thrown on for Khephren Thuram after the restart and Juve moved to 4-4-2. A couple of crosses were a little too high for the Serbian, but he got them on level terms and ended his 180-day goal drought by bending a free kick around the Verona wall and into the near bottom corner. Remarkably, it was also the first direct free kick scored by Juventus in Serie A this season.

Akpa Akpro risked an own goal intercepting the Conceicao pull-back to turn over from four yards, but Montipò made two extraordinary reaction saves in the space of a minute, both to deny Conceicao from point-blank range at the back post.

Conceicao also drilled wide from the edge of the area, while Jeremie Boga couldn’t surprise Montipò at the far stick on an Edon Zhegrova cross.

Boga saw his curler intercepted by a Hellas chest in the six-yard box, but Edon Zhegrova was unlucky in stoppages when his angled drive thumped the base of the near post and hit the goalkeeper on the back, but ricocheted back out.

It means both Juve’s games against Verona ended 1-1 this season, dropping four points overall in these fixtures.

Serie A official line-ups: Inter vs. Parma

3 May 2026 at 21:41

Inter need just one point to celebrate the Scudetto tonight against Mateo Pellegrino’s Parma, so Francesco Pio Esposito, Marcus Thuram and Alessandro Bastoni start.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens on the Liveblog.

Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw by Como yesterday, so that means a single point here would suffice to put Inter beyond reach at the top of the table.

The champagne is on ice, with Lautaro Martinez back on the bench after his latest injury setback, but Hakan Calhanoglu and Luis Henrique are in the stands after muscular problems.

Esposito therefore partners Thuram upfront, with Petar Sucic preferred to Henrikh Mkhitaryan in midfield.

Bastoni returns in defence three weeks after his last start, having struggled with a recurring ankle issue.

Parma have already locked down their Serie A safety thanks to a victory over Pisa, and are therefore also in celebratory mood at San Siro.

Matija Frigan and Benja Cremaschi are out of action, but Pellegrino leads the attack with Gabriel Strefezza, as super-sub Nesta Elphege waits for his opportunity.

Many of these players worked with Cristian Chivu last season, but it is a remarkable achievement for the coach to win the Scudetto in his first full top flight campaign.

Allegri: ‘Milan approached both halves badly, stay calm, Champions League not at risk’

3 May 2026 at 19:54

Massimiliano Allegri says that he understands his fan’s frustrations, but has urged for calm after watching his Milan side fall to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away against Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

The Rossoneri conceded within the first few minutes of both halves; Domenico Berardi finding the net after five minutes and Armand Lauriente after 47, which means that they have now won just one of their last five matches in Serie A. Now, the Rossoneri could potentially slip down to fourth place by the end of Sunday evening.

Allegri responds after Sassuolo 2-0 Milan: ‘We approached both halves badly’

“We approached both halves badly, especially the second. We threw it away, that’s how it’s going in this period. You can’t waste 10 months of work. Now we have to think about Atalanta,” said Allegri in a post-match interview with DAZN (via TMW).

“Technically, we made a lot of mistakes. It was a bad day, a bad Sunday. We have to meet again on Tuesday and work to fix it.”

Despite the fact that Milan have not yet secured a Champions League spot for next season, Allegri has no doubt that the Rossoneri will finish the 2025-26 season in the all-important top four.

“It’s not at risk. I would be very happy to confirm it on the final day as well, I’ve always said it. I am with the team every day and this is a difficult moment. We have to stay calm and take responsibility, we have to prepare as best we can for the game against Atalanta.

“We’ve done 10 months of good work, we’re in the final stretch. We haven’t done very well in the second half of the season, we can’t change that anymore. We just have to look ahead.

“Until the end, we have to stay grounded and work to overcome these moments of difficulty. I understand the fans, we all wanted to get over the finish line quickly, but we can’t get anxious.”

Allegri does not deny the fact that the sending off of Fikayo Tomori after 24 minutes had a big impact on proceedings, but didn’t appear too critical of his centre-back, despite his two early yellow cards.

“The sending off conditioned the game. These things happen. The important thing is to get back up quickly. We need two positive results to get into the Champions League, let’s just think about that.”

Allegri was also asked why he decided to take off Christopher Nkunku for Zachary Athekame at the half-time interval.

“I wanted to take the game forward as much as possible and give some balance, but it didn’t help because we immediately conceded.”

Spalletti: ‘Juventus risk being 11 great players and not a team’

3 May 2026 at 19:44

Luciano Spalletti warns Juventus risk taking Verona for granted with an opportunity to catch Milan in third place. ‘The danger is to be 11 great players rather than a great team.’

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

With Como held to a 0-0 draw by Napoli and Roma facing Fiorentina on Monday, this is an opportunity for the Bianconeri to consolidate fourth place and that Champions League ticket.

Even better, as Milan lost 2-0 to Sassuolo this afternoon, a victory would put the Old Lady in joint third position.

Spalletti keeps Juventus focused

Juve are unbeaten in eight Serie A games, winning five and drawing the other three, the longest positive streak in the league.

That includes a run of four consecutive clean sheets, conceding only once in the last seven rounds.

“We need to analyse the performances, not just the results,” warned Spalletti on Sky Sport Italia.

“We want to keep doing more than we did the day before, sport is a daily competition to always challenge yourself with something new. If you keep using the same techniques as in the past, it’s natural the others will surpass you, so we must focus on the performances and try to become what we want to be.”

Verona are already relegated, so the danger today is that Juve will take the victory for granted.

“When there are games like this, players tend to become 11 great players rather than a great team, so we need to be focused, ready to work, able to fill the whole game and not just do one thing, help your teammates, go beyond your usual characteristics. This unity is what helps everyone going forward.”

Kenan Yildiz had been on the bench for the last two games against Bologna and Milan, but has shaken off that recurring inflammation for a return to the starting XI.

Jonathan David is confirmed upfront with Francisco Conceicao in a 3-4-3 formation, sending Jeremie Boga and not fully fit Dusan Vlahovic to the bench after the 0-0 at San Siro.

“Yildiz could be a university professor in terms of team spirit, because he always wants to be with other people, he knows how to behave in a group, he’s a splendid lad, so we trust he will show us something good today,” noted Spalletti.

“Vlahovic had a nasty injury, he is recovering, and if we need someone with his characteristics today, then he too is available to help the team at this moment.”

Milan loudly jeered by supporters after 2-0 Sassuolo defeat

3 May 2026 at 19:31

It was an afternoon to forget for Milan, who fell to a 2-0 defeat away against Sassuolo in Serie A on Sunday, and were then loudly booed by their travelling supporters in an awkward moment after the full-time whistle.

What happened after full-time of Sassuolo 2-0 Milan?

An early strike from Domenico Berardi was followed by a goal from Armand Lauriente to send Sassuolo 2-0 up against Milan, who had been playing with 10 men since the 24th minute after Fikayo Tomori was sent off for two yellow card offences.

It has been a disappointing end to the 2025-26 season for Milan, who have only picked up four points from their last five matches, falling to defeats against Sassuolo, Udinese and Napoli over that period.

Now, the Rossoneri could end the weekend in fourth place if Juventus win against the already-relegated Hellas Verona later on Sunday evening.

Milan supporters made their frustrations clear after the Sassuolo defeat. The Rossoneri players did not go and thank their supporters in front of the stand, instead staying in the centre circle while being loudly jeered from a distance.

Sky Sport Italia reports that captain Mike Maignan began to lead his players over to the stand to applaud their supporters, but then began to head towards the dressing rooms upon hearing the boos, which only made the reception worse.

Milan will have an opportunity to respond next Sunday when they host Atalanta in San Siro. Then come tests against Genoa and Cagliari to close the 2025-26 campaign.

Serie A official line-ups: Juventus vs. Verona

3 May 2026 at 18:59

Juventus can catch Milan in third place as they host Kieron Bowie’s already-relegated Verona, as Kenan Yildiz returns to the starting XI with Jonathan David and Francisco Conceicao.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The Bianconeri have a big opportunity to lock down that Champions League spot after Como were held to a 0-0 draw by Napoli, with Roma facing Fiorentina on Monday evening.

Above all, Milan’s 2-0 defeat at Sassuolo means a victory will put Juve in joint third place.

Dusan Vlahovic is in the squad again after a calf injury during a warm-up last month, while Kenan Yildiz has shaken off that recurring inflammation to start after two games as a substitute.

David and Conceicao complete the attack, sending Jeremie Boga to the bench.

Weston McKennie and Andrea Cambiaso are on the flanks of a 3-4-3 formation.

Verona and Pisa were already doomed to relegation this weekend, so have nothing more to play for other than pride.

Gift Orban is again frozen out after his physical altercation with a fan in the car park a couple of weeks ago, and is unlikely to play for Hellas again.

Nicolas Valentini is suspended, with Armel Bella-Kotchap joining Cheikh Niasse, Daniel Oyegoke, Suat Serdar and Daniel Mosquera on the treatment table.

Toma Suslov partners Scotland international Bowie upfront.

Serie A | Sassuolo 2-0 Milan: Tomori sees red as Rossoneri collapse

3 May 2026 at 18:56

Milan crumbled in a 2-0 defeat to Sassuolo when down to 10 men for over an hour due to Fikayo Tomori’s red card, as Domenico Berardi and Armand Laurienté scored.

The Rossoneri could catch Napoli in second place with a victory and consolidate the Champions League spot, but Luka Modric’s season was over after surgery for a fractured cheekbone. Ardon Jashari stepped in, with Christopher Nkunku pushing off-form Christian Pulisic to the bench. Domenico Berardi was back after a two-match ban for the Neroverdi, though Darryl Bakola, Fali Cande, Daniel Boloca and Edoardo Pieragnolo were injured.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

It took under five minutes for Berardi to confirm his extraordinary record against Milan, as this was his 12th career goal past them. Kristian Thorstvedt robbed Jashari in midfield and it was quickly moved left to right, for Berardi to bend a first-time finish into the far bottom corner with the inside of the left foot.

Moments later, Mike Maignan made a one-handed save on the M’Bala Nzola counter-attack, while both teams had penalty appeals waved away as Berardi had his arm behind his back, then Armand Laurienté went down too easily under pressure from Matteo Gabbia, the same with Christopher Nkunku at the other end.

Rafael Leao wasted a golden opportunity when blasting wide with only the goalkeeper to beat after a defensive error sent him clear on goal.

Things went from bad to worse for Milan, as Fikayo Tomori brought down Laurienté on the counter for his second yellow card, leaving his team down to 10 for over an hour.

Strahinja Pavlovic made a decisive block on Thorstvedt and Jay Idzes limped off injured, while Alexis Saelemaekers drilled wide.

Sassuolo doubled their lead within 90 seconds of the restart, as Laurienté completed a give and go with Thorstvedt just inside the area, the finish thumped low and hard into the near bottom corner.

Zachary Athekame fired over, while Nzola and Thorstvedt failed to keep their efforts on target, while both Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Alieu Fadera were booked for simulation in the box.

This result means that with a victory over Verona today, Juventus could catch Milan in joint third place, while they have failed to score in five of the last seven games.

Gasperini: ‘Kone and Dybala recovered, I give credit to the Roma players’

3 May 2026 at 18:15

Gian Piero Gasperini has provided a positive update on the fitness of key players Paulo Dybala and Manu Kone and says that if Roma are still in the fight for a Champions League spot, it is entirely down to the work that the players have put in: ‘The squad has been special, I thank them’.

Gasperini sat down for his customary pre-match press conference on Sunday ahead of Monday evening’s clash against a Fiorentina side that are unbeaten across their last seven Serie A matches.

Roma find themselves in sixth place ahead of kick-off. They will have an opportunity to move clear of Como, who are one point better off than the Giallorossi having played one game more than them. The big target, however, is Juventus in fourth place, who have three points more than Roma having played the same number of matches.

Gasperini on Roma pride, visit from the owners, Dybala, Kone and Wesley

Heading into the final four matches of the 2025-26 season, Gasperini has confirmed that both Dybala and Kone are back and available for selection again.

“Kone has recovered, Dybala had already recovered. This week has gone better. They’re available,” Gasperini said (via TMW).

Gasperini is also expected to meet with Roma’s owners in the near future: “The presence of the ownership is a signal,” he said. “Maybe they will start making moves not just for the end of the season, but also in view of the future.”

Gasperini was asked if he considers this season to have been a ‘transitional’ year for the Giallorossi.

He replied: “There are two tracks: The current season, which is still alive and tomorrow we’ll play against a Fiorentina side that is coming in off the back of a lot of positive results. We’re fully focused on that since we’re still in the race. The team’s behaviour has been excellent, we will try to kick on in these four games.

“Then, we will start talking about the future, however, right now is not the time. Afterwards, I will try to be clear because the fans need to understand what we’re doing.”

With Claudio Ranieri having recently left the club and with the future of sporting director Ricky Massara looking uncertain, Gasperini was asked if there are any concerns that Roma could fall behind their Serie A rivals in terms of planning for next season and the upcoming transfer window.

“Of course, there has already been a bit of development. We have recalibrated after suffering a big, unexpected disappointment. However, I don’t think that the other teams have already started planning. The ownership will have plenty of time and clarity to deal with these things, but when they do, they will do it in the best possible way.”

Gasperini avoided answering questions about his relationship with Massara, though: “I’m going back to Fiorentina, that’s very important. As for the rest, we’ll talk about it when the time comes. The club will speak. There is no need to go into detail now.”

The Roma boss hopes to take inspiration from the club’s women’s team, who have recently claimed the  Scudetto for the third time in four years.

“The women’s Scudetto was fantastic, we want to imitate them, even if the Scudetto is a little too far ahead for us,” Gasperini laughed.

Gasp was also asked for his opinion on the recent 5-4 thriller between PSG and Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final.

“I enjoyed it, I liked it a lot. There were some mistakes, but there were also some wonderful technical moments. The game was enjoyable for everyone.

“This is not the best moment for the Italians in the cups, but we need to react and not give up. Maybe we’re not doing the right things. We find it difficult against them all. Maybe it’s about how teams are built here. Replicating that style of football is difficult, it depends on the quality of the players.”

Gasp was then asked for his assessment of his team’s performance so far in 2025-26.

He said: “The squad has been a bit special this year, it’s not easy. We’re still in the race and I give the credit to the team. Extraordinary professionalism and togetherness. The response in Bologna was fantastic.”

It was then pointed out to Gasperini that his side tends to underperform in the final stages of matches, especially compared to their direct rivals in the league.

“Probably, however, we’re ahead in other numbers. We’re fifth in the standings. It’s true, we don’t often manage to get points in the final moments, which many other teams do obtain. However, we will work to improve on that.”

The Roma gaffer was also asked if he has any plans to swap Wesley back to the right flank at any stage, having featured on the left for the majority of the 2025-26 campaign.

“He’s a player who’s gone through an important evolution. He can play both on the right and on the left, although he is of course a right-footer. When you have strong players, you can put them on the pitch and then find their most suitable position.

“It also depends on the situation. In this period, we’ve had Celik available, but we’ve practically never had Angelino and that was a big loss. Wesley is a valuable player and that’s the main thing.”

Is Gasperini ‘satisfied’ with his squad’s results so far this campaign?

“Everyone has room for improvement. You acquire value at all ages. I’m satisfied. Everyone has played, everyone has given their contribution. There’s not been a problem of behaviour, ever. I thank them. If we’re still in it, it’s thanks to them.”

Why Tomori was sent off after 24 minutes of Sassuolo vs. Milan

3 May 2026 at 18:02

Life became more difficult for Milan in their Serie A match away against Sassuolo after the  24th-minute red card shown to centre-back Fikayo Tomori. Here is how the England international managed to get himself sent off midway through the first half at the Mapei Stadium.

Tomori sees red after 24 minutes of Sassuolo vs. Milan

With his side trailing 1-0 after Domenico Berardi’s early opener for Sassuolo, Tomori was sent off for two separate yellow card offences on Sunday afternoon.

The first booking came in the ninth minute for a trip on Kristian Thorstvedt just inside the Sassuolo half, which led referee Fabio Maresca to immediately reach for his yellow card.

Tomori’s afternoon was over a quarter of an hour later after tripping up Armand Lauriente right on the halfway line in a very similar position to his first booking 15 minutes earlier.

There were few complaints from the Milan camp after the decision to send off Tomori, who took himself straight down the tunnel in the 24th minute.

Despite being a centre-back down, Allegri decided against making any personnel changes before the end of the first half.

Arsenal stars react to Calafiori’s return as post-match social media message explained

3 May 2026 at 17:15

Italy international Riccardo Calafiori returned to action after nearly a month for Arsenal on Saturday, prompting reactions from some of his teammates, including Declan Rice, on Instagram.

Calafiori played the full 90 minutes in Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday, making his first appearance since April 7 when he had played the full match in a 1-0 away victory over Sporting CP in the Champions League.

Since then, the ex-Roma and Bologna defender had not featured for the Gunners until yesterday due to an unspecified injury.

Calafiori’s celebrated Arsenal’s latest victory on social media, sharing a series of photos on Instagram, accompanied by a caption in both English and Spanish.

“No pares, sigues, sigues,” wrote the Italian defender. A Spanish message that means “Don’t stop, continue, continue.”

Calafiori’s social media post after Arsenal win and return from injury

Calafiori’s post received nearly 2,000 comments in less than 24 hours, including those of his teammates Leandro Trossard, Rice and Jurrien Timber as well as Calafiori’s agents at World Soccer Agency.

Rice used what appears to be a Calafiori nickname: “Calafiorio,” while Trossard used a heart face emonji to celebrate the Italian’s return to action.

Tare: ‘Milan in sync for future plans, Kone will attract attention’

3 May 2026 at 16:47

Milan director Igli Tare insists the club is ‘in sync’ with coach Max Allegri when planning for next season, and admits he is watching Sassuolo midfielder Ismael Kone.

It kicks off at the Mapei Stadium at 14.00 UK time (15.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

The Rossoneri know a victory here would put them in joint second with Napoli, but above all take another significant step towards locking down that Champions League qualification.

Tare planning Milan future

There was a three-hour summit today at the club headquarters involving directors and coach Allegri to plan the transfer strategy for the summer, so are they on the same page?

“We are all in sync and almost every week we have a meal together with the coach and director Furlani, so we are united on what we need to do for next season and what this team is missing,” Tare told DAZN Italia.

“We have some very good players in the youth team who have trained with the senior squad, so we are keeping a close eye on them too.”

Christopher Nkunku is drafted in to partner Rafael Leao, sending misfiring Christian Pulisic to the bench after he matched his career record longest negative streak of 16 games without a goal.

Considering the difficulty pushing players like Leao into the 3-5-2 formation, are they evaluating other tactical systems too?

“Looking at some of the characteristics of the players that allow us to play a different way, we will try to be prepared with not just a team that has quality, but can also play in different systems.”

There have been reports that Milan are among the clubs ready to bid for Canada international midfielder Ismael Kone this summer.

“He had a very good season with Sassuolo, he has important characteristics and played at a high level in France too, so he can attract a lot of attention on the transfer market for Sassuolo,” confirmed Tare.

Luka Modric is out for the rest of the season after surgery on a fractured cheekbone, which he sustained during an accidental clash of heads with Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli in last week’s 0-0 draw.

The midfielder is expected to extend his contract beyond June 30 and hopes to make a full recovery in time to feature for Croatia in the 2026 World Cup next month.

Serie A | Bologna 0-0 Cagliari: Third consecutive goalless stalemate

3 May 2026 at 16:34

Bologna were held to an underwhelming 0-0 draw at home against Cagliari in Serie A on Sunday afternoon, the third consecutive Italian top-flight match to end goalless.

Bologna came into Sunday’s clash ranked ninth in Serie A, while the 16th-placed Cagliari came in needing a victory to ensure mathematical safety with three games to spare. Vincenzo Italiano’s side were without goalkeeper Lukasz Skorpuski, Joao Mario, Nicolo Cambiaghi and Thijs Dallinga, and Cagliari travelled without Riyad Idrissi, Luca Mazzitelli, Mattia Felici, Leonardo Pavoletti and Gennaro Borrelli.

Federico Bernardeschi registered the game’s first shot on target after 25 minutes, coming in off the right flank and attempting to bend his left-footed shot into the far corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area. Nothing that Elia Caprile couldn’t handle, though.

Teenage goalkeeper Massimo Pessina was called into action in the 45th minute, improvising well to deny Sebastiano Esposito at his near post.

Benja Dominguez thought he had a shout for a penalty immediately afterwards after feeling a hand on the back from Yerry Mina down at the other end, but this was waved away with no further reviews.

Caprile had to get down low and get a strong hand out to deny Nikola Moro’s dipping shot from the edge of the penalty area 10 minutes after the re-start.

Substitute Santiago Castro struck the ball well from a tight angle 66 minutes in, but Caprile was again well positioned at his near post and got his full body behind the shot.

Ze Pedro had a glorious opportunity to send Cagliari 1-0 up 10 minutes from time: Michael Folorunsho had done well to send a cross back into a busy Bologna penalty area, which fell kindly for Ze Pedro, who managed to blast his first-time finish over the crossbar from the edge of the six-yard box.

After 0-0 draws between Como and Napoli and between Atalanta and Genoa on Saturday evening, this was the third consecutive Serie A match to end goalless. Bologna are now four games without a win across all competitions, while Cagliari are not quite safe from relegation just yet.

It kicks off at 15:00 CET (14:00 BST) at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia.

Ardon Jashari replaces the Croatian star in central midfield for the Rossoneri, while Christian Pulisic starts on the bench.

The USMNT star hasn’t yet scored a goal in 2026, so Massimiliano Allegri picks Leao and Nkunku up front.

New Rocchi mystery: ‘They don’t want to see’ that referee; who was he talking about?

3 May 2026 at 15:42

According to multiple reports in Italy, former Referee Designator Gianluca Rocchi was allegedly caught on wiretap telling VAR supervisor Andrea Gervasoni that ‘they’ no longer wanted to see a particular referee. Yet, exactly who Rocchi was referring to remains unclear.

A probe into alleged sports fraud in Italy remains ongoing, with five individuals connected to the refereeing profession currently under investigation.

Among them is Serie A and Serie B Designator Rocchi, who suspended himself earlier this week.

Gazzetta and Corriere della Sera report provide the latest updates on the matter on Sunday.

According to both sources, Rocchi was caught on wiretap in April 2025 telling Gervasoni, who is also under investigation: “They don’t want to see him anymore.”

During the same conversation, Rocchi also mentioned the name “Giorgio”, leading investigators to believe that the ex-Referee Designator referred to Inter’s Referee Manager Giorgio Schenone.

The Milan Prosecutors did try to precisely identify who “they” referred to, obtaining authorisation from the investigating judge for additional weeks of wiretaps on certain targets.

However, in early summer 2025, the judge brought the surveillance to an end, rejecting a request for a further extension after the additional wiretaps failed to produce any new evidence.

Currently, there are five people under investigation, but none from clubs.

Milan vs. Juventus game draws criticism across Italy

3 May 2026 at 15:18

The 0-0 draw between Milan and Juventus on April 26, 2026, has drawn criticism in Italy for the defensive playing styles of both teams, resulting in an inevitable stalemate.

Milan’s recent meeting with Juventus at San Siro has been the subject of severe criticism from fans and the media alike, as the Rossoneri and the Bianconeri produced too little in a match once regarded as a Serie A classic.

Milan and Juventus criticised after 0-0 draw

The draw allowed Milan and Juventus to keep Como and Roma at a safe distance with just four games remaining in the 2025-26 Serie A campaign.

Inter and Napoli have practically secured Champions League qualification, and betting odds sports indicate that the race for the remaining two places will go down to the wire over the final four matches of the season.

bCasino New Zealand online casino bonuses suggest that Milan and Juventus remain favourites to qualify for Europe’s elite competition, yet their recent display at San Siro was far from pleasing.

Juventus had the best chance in the first half when Khephren Thuram had a goal disallowed for offside, while the Rossoneri hit the crossbar with Alexis Saelemaekers after the break.

Former Serie A defender Daniele Adani, who has now become one of the most prominent pundits in Italy, didn’t hold back when analysing the match during TV show Domenica Sportiva.

“In my opinion, half of Italy is happy with this kind of match,” he said via Milannews.

“How many people do you hear saying that the best defence is simply not conceding? But how many tomorrow will be celebrating with phrases like ‘We didn’t allow the opposition a single shot on target,’ or ‘The objective is Champions League qualification?’

“I’ve been saying for 10 years that, if we want to align ourselves with the rest of the football world, we need to play with intensity, tempo, and attacking intent. Yet, I’m dismissed as a philosopher or a theorist whenever I argue that this style of football is not exportable,” he continued.

“And then we’re told that European competitions should be played abroad to help export the product.

“But the truth is that we’re a laughing stock. We don’t excite anymore. Anyone who watched Milan vs. Juventus switched off after 15 minutes. I have the perfect quote for that first half: ‘Nothing left to do, but cry.”

Juventus coach Spalletti was also unhappy with his team’s performance, arguing that his players are still not mature enough.

“We do well in possession, but we lose something in the duels,” he said at a post-match press conference.

“Sometimes we produce a great surge, only to make simple mistakes on easy passes. We need to consistently maintain a high level of balance. Today, under no circumstances could we afford to lose this match. It seemed to me that more than winning, they were absolutely determined not to lose it.”

David faces uncertain Juventus future with Aston Villa and Fenerbahce interested

3 May 2026 at 14:29

Tuttosport newspaper reports that Aston Villa and Fenerbahce are interested in Juventus striker Jonathan David.

Canada international David is facing an uncertain future at Juventus after an up-and-down first season at the Allianz Stadium.

David has scored six goals and provided four assists in 32 Serie A games and earns €6m net per season plus €2m add-ons.

According to Tuttosport, Turkish side Fenerbahce are interested in the 26-year-old, and so are Premier League side Aston Villa.

Unai Emery is a long-time admirer of the Canadian forward and was already interested in signing him last summer, before Juventus eventually secured a deal on a free transfer.

According to the report, David is not entirely convinced about leaving Juventus at the end of the season, and the Serie A giants won’t necessarily sell him unless they receive a convincing offer.

David has a few games left to convince Juventus to keep him, starting with today’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona at the Allianz Stadium, where he’s expected to start as the lone striker.

Skorupski, Dallinga, Joao Mario, Cambiaghi and Casale are unavailable for Bologna, while Cagliari have travelled to Emilia Romagna without the likes of Idrissi, Mazzitelli, Felici, Pavoletti, Borrelli, and Liteta.

Will Inter lift 2025-26 title trophy if they win Scudetto vs. Parma?

3 May 2026 at 13:28

Inter need just one point against Parma to win the 2025-26 Scudetto tonight, but they’ll have to wait until the final round to lift the trophy.

When will Inter lift the 2025-26 Scudetto trophy?

Cristian Chivu’s Inter are just one point away from winning the 2025-26 Serie A title as the Nerazzurri only need a draw in tonight’s home game against Parma to secure the Scudetto with three games to spare.

Inter are practically certain of winning the 21st domestic title in their history, but will have to wait until the final round to lift the trophy.

Inter will play the final game of the season at home against Hellas Verona on the weekend of May 17. The exact date and kick-off time have yet to be confirmed, but the Nerazzurri will certainly lift the trophy after that match.

As reported by several Italian media outlets, Inter’s title celebrations will likely include an open-top bus parade as well.

In the meantime, the Nerazzurri will also play the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio on May 13, so Chivu’s men might end up celebrating a domestic double in barely two weeks.

Serie A: Inter vs. Parma – probable line-ups, where to watch on TV

3 May 2026 at 12:53

Inter star Alessandro Bastoni is expected to start against Parma, while Lautaro Martinez will go on the bench with the Nerazzurri needing just one point to win the 2025-26 Scudetto.

It kicks off at 20:45 CET (19:45 BST) at the Stadio Meazza in Milan, San Siro.

Football Italia will be among the accredited media.

Inter must cope without Hakan Calhanoglu and Luis Henrique, but Lautaro Martinez has recovered from an injury and will go on the bench.

Bastoni’s fitness is also improving, so the Italian defender is expected to start in a three-man defence, according to Sky Sport, Gazzetta, and other reputable Italian media outlets.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is favourite over Petar Sucic in central midfield.

Following Napoli’s 0-0 draw against Como on Saturday, a draw will be enough for Inter to win the Scudetto tonight with three games to spare.

Parma have travelled to Milan without the injured Frigan and Cremaschi.

Carlos Cuesta will look to his ideal XI with Adrian Bernabé in central midfield and Mateo Pellegrino in attack.

Inter vs. Parma – where to watch on TV

The match will be broadcast on TNT Sports 2, DAZN and HBO Max in the UK and Ireland and on Paramount+ in the USA. Football Italia will provide live updates with a liveblog from San Siro.

Inter vs. Parma – probable line-ups

Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Bisseck, Akanji, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Zielinski, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Esposito.

Serie A: Juventus vs. Verona – probable line-ups, where to watch on TV

3 May 2026 at 12:33

Kenan Yildiz is expected to return to the Juventus starting XI for a must-win Serie A match against already-relegated Hellas Verona.

It kicks off at 18:00 CET (17:00 BST) at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

The Bianconeri have a two-point lead over fifth-placed Como, but with a game in hand, while Verona were mathematically relegated on Friday following Lecce’s away victory at Pisa.

Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik are unavailable for Juventus, while Verona have once again dropped Gift Orban after the Nigeria international fought with a fan in the street last month.

Multiple sources, including Gazzetta and Sky Sport Italia, report that Juventus star Yildiz is fit to start, making his return to the Juventus line-up for the first time in three weeks.

Juventus are unbeaten in the last eight Serie A games, collecting five wins and three draws since the start of March.

Serie A: Sassuolo vs. Milan – probable line-ups, where to watch on TV

3 May 2026 at 11:51

Milan star Christian Pulisic is expected to start on the bench, but the Rossoneri need a win against Sassuolo to boost their Champions League qualification hopes.

It kicks off at 15:00 CET (14:00 BST) at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia.

The Rossoneri sit third in the standings with a five-point lead over Como, who already played on Saturday, drawing 0-0 against Napoli. On the other hand, Sassuolo have already secured survival, having earned 46 points in 34 games.

Luka Modric is unavailable for Milan, and according to multiple sources, including Sky Sport Italia, the Croatian star will be replaced by Ardon Jashari in central midfield.

USMNT international Pulisic is expected to start on the bench, being replaced by Christopher Nkunku. Pulisic hasn’t yet scored a goal in 2026.

Italy international Domenico Berardi will return to Sassuolo’s starting XI after serving a two-game ban. Second-choice keeper Stefano Turati is expected to start the third game in a row, leaving Arijanet Muric on the bench.

Today’s Papers – Farewell Zanardi, the Superhero

3 May 2026 at 11:28

La Gazzetta dello Sport

Superhero

Farewell to the man of impossible feats

A driver living life always on the edge. The crash and his legs were amputated, then he won the gold medals at the Paralympic Games. The accident with a truck. He died on May 1, like Senna. All of Italy is moved.

Allegri: ‘The Champions League moves 100m.’ Spalletti, Yildiz right away.

Inter, Scudetto one point away.

Corriere dello Sport

Farewell giant

Alex lives

Zanardi has died: an extraordinary man who taught us to redraw our lives.

Born in Bologna, 59, the strength of ideals and smiles. The farewell on the same day as Senna’s. F1, kart, 16 surgeries, four Paralympic Gold medals in handbike, and the shocking crash with a truck. Matteralla moved: ‘A great pain.’

Tuttosport

Alex Zanardi (1966-2026)

Your lesson forever

The champion of the impossible died on the same day as his idol, Senna. Terrible Formula Car accident in 2001. The second life, the Paralympics triumphs, and the crash with a handbike in 2020. The biggest lesson: ‘When you can’t take it anymore, hold on, more opportunities will come.’

Inter: Scudetto Day amid controversy

Chivu to be crowned champion if he draws with Parma, but the Milanese investigation looms over the celebration.

The wiretap in which Rocchi allegedly mentioned the referee coordinator Schenone opens new scenarios. In the meantime, Napoli’s 0-0 against Como means a point will be enough tonight. For the first time since 1989, the title can be won at San Siro. Lautaro on the bench, Bastoni returns, but nothing organised…

‘Vlahovic? I think he wants to stay.’

The coach pushes to confirm the Serbian and enjoys Yildiz. ‘He has the sun in his face, he makes me feel lucky to coach.’ Kenan on the pitch today with Verona. Aston Villa on David.

Toro, nice way to honour the invincibles…

Ehizibue-Kristensen: easy 2-0. D’Aversa: ‘Wrong spirit, I got angry.’ And the fans protest.

Italian coach Farioli wins first League title with FC Porto

3 May 2026 at 01:53

Italian coach Francesco Farioli has officially taken FC Porto to victory in the Primeira Liga at the age of 37, beating Jose Mourinho’s Benfica.

This evening’s 1-0 victory over Alverca was enough to open up the nine-point gap at the top of the table, after Benfica were held to a 2-2 draw by Famalicao.

O 𝑻𝒊𝒄 𝑻𝒂𝒄 acabou assim 💙#ConseguimosJuntos pic.twitter.com/SE3h153JjA

— FC Porto (@FCPorto) May 2, 2026

With only two rounds to go, it means they are impossible to catch and FC Porto can celebrate the title four years after their most recent success.

Benfica had won, followed by back-to-back Sporting successes, but this is FC Porto’s 31st victory.

First trophy for Farioli

Official: Farioli appointed head coach of FC Porto.
Official: Farioli appointed head coach of FC Porto.

Farioli is an Italian coach who started out as a goalkeeping trainer and assistant manager, working closely with Roberto De Zerbi for Benevento and Sassuolo.

He branched out on his own in Turkish football with Fatih Karagumruk in 2021 and Alanyaspor, then had spells with OGC Nice and Ajax.

FC Porto hired him in July 2025 and he oversaw 38 victories, eight draws and five defeats in all competition this season, also reaching the Europa League quarter-finals.

This is the first trophy of Farioli’s coaching career and he celebrated his 37th birthday last month.

Conte set for worst ever Serie A record with under 80 points

3 May 2026 at 01:04

This is going to be the worst full Serie A season of Antonio Conte’s coaching career, as for the first time he will fail to reach 80 points after Napoli stumbled.

The Partenopei won the title last term with 82 points, beating Inter to the Scudetto by a single point after 38 rounds.

They were held 0-0 by Como this evening, putting them on 70 points with three games left to play.

That means the maximum tally that Napoli could achieve at the end of the season is 79 points, a record low for the tactician.

Conte never earned fewer than 80 points

The only time he ever managed fewer points was with Atalanta in 2009-10, but that was not a full campaign, as he was only on the bench for 13 matches.

His record remains 102 points with Juventus in the 2013-14 campaign, also getting 87 and 84 during his Bianconeri experience.

When at Inter, Conte had 82 points in 2019-20, then 91 to win the Scudetto in 2020-21.

Donnarumma reveals marriage with cheeky comment: ‘Long-term contract signed’

Italy international and Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma jokingly announced he got married as if it was a transfer. ‘Long-term contract signed.’

He published photographs of them together in their wedding outfits surrounded by flowers, complete with the comment: ‘Long-term contract signed.’

To keep the transfer theme going, even pundit Fabrizio Romano popped up in their comments with his trademark: ‘Here we go’

The shot-stopper and his partner Alessia Elefante had been childhood sweethearts when going to school together in Castellammare di Stabia.

They have officially been together since 2016, when he was already playing for Milan and she moved to the city to join him, working as an interior designer.

Although this relationship has been solid for many years, and they were engaged since 2024 in Paris when he was playing for Paris Saint-Germain, they only tied the knot this week.

The couple also welcomed son Leo to the world in September 2024.

Serie A | Atalanta 0-0 Genoa: Frustrating night for Dea, but Grifone now safe

3 May 2026 at 00:40

Atalanta had the best chances, rattling the woodwork with Giacomo Raspadori, but were unable to get more than a 0-0 draw, as Genoa are now mathematically safe.

La Dea were eager to get back on track after a dismal run of one point from three rounds, plus Coppa Italia semi-final elimination to Lazio. Lorenzo Bernasconi’s season was over after a knee ligament injury, but Gianluca Scamacca started with Nikola Krstovic after a brace in the 3-2 defeat to Cagliari. The Grifone were almost sure of Serie A safety, despite a loss to Como. Tommaso Baldanzi was still out, but Brooke Norton-Cuffy returned to the bench and Justin Bijlow shook off a muscular twinge.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Vitinha and Krstovic tested the goalkeepers early on, while Vitinha on the counter saw his attempt deflected over the bar from a Lorenzo Colombo counter-attack.

Ederson’s first touch let him down in a very promising position on the Davide Zappacosta pull-back, while Bijlow almost let the Charles De Ketelaere angled drive squirm under him after a give and go with Giorgio Scalvini.

Scalvini was decisive at the other end with a crucial block on Jeff Ekhator’s first-time strike, and Krstovic’s flick did not surprise Bijlow at the near post.

Atalanta really should’ve scored when Bijlow spilled a powerful Ederson effort from outside the box and Giacomo Raspadori only prodded the rebound straight at the goalkeeper.

Bijlow fingertipped a Krstovic attempt round the near post, but Raspadori came closest on 79 minutes when his fierce strike thumped the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area.

Genoa had to play the final minutes practically down to 10 men, as Junior Messias suffered a thigh strain after all the substitutions had been completed.

Deep into stoppages, a corner was cleared as far as Ederson, whose right-foot curler skimmed the crossbar.

Conte: ‘A good Napoli performance, another step forward’

2 May 2026 at 22:50

Antonio Conte insists Napoli put in ‘a good performance’ for the 0-0 draw with Como and took ‘another step forward’ towards Champions League qualification.

Just like back in November at the Stadio Maradona, the game ended 0-0 between these two teams, while Como emerged victorious on penalties in the Coppa Italia quarter-final after another stalemate.

The hosts had the best chances with Amir Rrahmani’s goal-line clearance denying Tasos Douvikas and a Vanja Milinkovic-Savic save on Martin Baturina, but late on Matteo Politano thumped the woodwork and Scott McTominay drilled wide on the counter-attack.

Conte pleased with Napoli stalemate

“It was certainly a good performance, as without that you don’t emerge unscathed from a game where both Napoli and Como had a lot at stake. Como probably had more at stake with Champions League qualification,” Conte told DAZN Italia.

“We were a little too timid in the first half and didn’t put the right pressure on. Let us not forget they have a goalkeeper who makes it very difficult, because with the slightest wrong movement, he can get away and then force you to sprint back to cover the space.

“We improved in terms of quality after the restart, had chances to score goals, but there are three games to go. We made another step forward, not just for a Champions League place, but also to try and finish as high up the table as possible.

“The lads did well, we must congratulate them for the performance against a tough opponent.”

There were some potential counter-attack situations for the Partenopei, but Kevin De Bruyne was substituted early and looked a little rusty.

“Como created some opportunities when we lost the ball, so we weren’t as clean in our passing, the central midfielders were too stretched out and not close enough to each other. The playmakers need to be more co-ordinated,” continued Conte.

“We lost the ball stupidly a couple of times and that created some tension. We improved a lot after the break, with two big scoring opportunities, but even in the first we had some situations with Hojlund where we could’ve made better choices.

“De Bruyne is in the same condition he was last week, not much has changed in seven days. He had done very well against Cremonese and scored a goal, but some games you can do better than others, he played his part today. I decided to bring on Anguissa and move McTominay into a more advanced role.”

This result means that Napoli feel more secure in second place, but Inter will be able to celebrate the Scudetto tomorrow evening with as little as a point against Parma at San Siro.

Fabregas: ‘Both proud and angry with Como, Nico Paz learn from Dembele’

2 May 2026 at 22:37

Cesc Fabregas cannot decide if he is proud or angry after Como’s 0-0 draw with Napoli, but reveals the advice he gave to Nico Paz about learning from Ousmane Dembele.

Fabregas continues to frustrate his former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, because they met three times this season and all of them were draws, with Como winning the penalty shoot-out in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.

His side had the best earlier chances today with Amir Rrahmani clearing a Tasos Douvikas effort off the line, but late on Matteo Politano was denied by the upright in a goalless stalemate.

Fabregas unsure of Como reaction

Was the coach more happy with the performance or irritated at the result today?

“It depends. In my head, considering who we were a year and a half ago, I can say I am very proud. But then we tried to win today, we didn’t manage it, so in that sense I am angry,” Fabregas told DAZN Italia.

“We tried to be very aggressive, to press Napoli, I saw the team I wanted to see, trying to win the game. Nico Paz, Da Cunha, Perrone were fighting it out in midfield against Lobotka, De Bruyne and McTominay, so that’s something I cannot forget either.”

The other meeting back in November 2025 also ended 0-0, but in that game Vanja Milinkovic-Savic had parried an Alvaro Morata penalty.

This result means that Como could be left further behind Juventus and Roma tomorrow in the race for the top four, as the Bianconeri could go five points clear.

“I sense the constant growth of my players, I am very demanding with them, and when I see performances against Sassuolo, Udinese, Parma, Fiorentina where they don’t give me what I want to see, I don’t forget those.

“Having said that, 95 per cent of the time, they do give me what I want to see. I know where they were a couple of years ago and how they are constantly stepping up, so as a coach it is not just about analysing victory or defeat, there are hours and hours of invisible work.

“In that sense, we should be happy that Como are challenging for important positions the year after returning to Serie A, having been out of the top flight for 21 years.”

Nico Paz is widely expected to return to Real Madrid, who have a buy-back clause, but Fabregas seemed far from certain the Argentina international would leave Como this summer.

“Are you so sure? This is not the moment to talk about the future. We are building something here, we’ve seen so much progress and want to keep working together.”

It was noted that Nico Paz showed improvement in his work rate today, tracking back to help the defence.

“In modern football, it is total football, you must be able to do everything,” noted Fabregas.

“I had the opportunity to be in Paris the other day for the Champions League semi-final and I saw that Dembele was man-marking Pavlovic, a Ballon d’Or player was doing that. If a Ballon d’Or can do that, so can everyone.

“I think this style of football can be adapted to my squad and what we want to do with a very young squad.”

That incredible game saw PSG beat Bayern Munich 5-4, so have Como also picked up some tricks like kicking the ball straight into touch to start building from the back?

“If you’ve been following Como, you will know we’ve done that before, even if it is a little different,” smiled Fabregas.

“You want to create a situation where they can be forced into errors. We don’t do it exactly like them, but we might do in future.”

Why Inter cannot now win the Scudetto without playing

2 May 2026 at 22:20

Inter can no longer win the Scudetto without setting foot on the field tomorrow, but they only need a draw against Parma to secure the Serie A title.

There was the opportunity going into the Week 35 fixtures that they could pop the champagne corks while watching the other games.

They needed Napoli to suffer a defeat to Como at the Stadio Sinigaglia, and for Sassuolo to be unbeaten against Milan on Sunday afternoon.

Inter Scudetto scenario has changed

Seeing as Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw by Como today, it means that scenario can no longer play out.

However, it does change the situation in that now Inter can clinch the Scudetto with as little as a draw against Parma at San Siro on Sunday evening.

The Nerazzurri are currently nine points clear at the top of the table, so going up to 10 points with only three rounds left to play would put them beyond reach.

Serie A | Como 0-0 Napoli: Cesc and Conte share new stalemate

2 May 2026 at 21:58

Como were denied by a goal-line clearance and Matteo Politano hit the woodwork for Napoli, as Cesc Fabregas and Antonio Conte share the spoils.

This was joint fifth against second with the race for a Champions League spot still open. Nico Paz, Mergim Vojvoda and Sergi Roberto shook off knocks, leaving only Jayden Addai on the treatment table. Giovanni Di Lorenzo was back on the bench for the first time three months after a knee injury, with Mathias Olivera, Juan Jesus, David Neres, Antonio Vergara and Romelu Lukaku still out of action. Cesc Fabregas and his former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte were reunited on the touchline, after knocking Napoli out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final on penalties.

See how it all unfolded on the Liveblog.

Tasos Douvikas should’ve scored after eight minutes when springing the offside trap on a Nico Paz pass and dribbling around Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but the goalkeeper managed to slow him down enough to allow Amir Rrahmani to get back for the decisive goal-line clearance.

Martin Baturina bent his finish wide of the far post, while Milinkovic-Savic rushed off his line to deny Assane Diao when sent through by a smart Nico Paz counter-attack.

A Nico Paz free kick also went over the bar, then Jacobo Ramon just failed to connect from four yards on a flicked-on corner.

After the restart, Rasmus Hojlund’s penalty appeals were rejected as he was offside anyway, and Diao failed to keep his header down at the back post.

Milinkovic-Savic was almost wrong-footed by a deflection on Baturina’s half-turn, but managed to scramble across for the one-handed save.

Scott McTominay had a great chance on 79 minutes when sprinting onto the pass from the left, but he drilled the finish just wide of the near post with only Jean Butez to beat.

Matteo Politano tackled Jesus Rodriguez inside the penalty area cleanly and then went on the counter, moments later his left-foot curler from outside the box smacking against the far post for Napoli.

Just like earlier this season in Serie A at the Stadio Maradona, it ended goalless.

Report: Inter offer Akanji two-year deal as permanent move from Manchester City beckons

2 May 2026 at 21:19

Manuel Akanji is set to make his move to Inter permanent, with the Nerazzurri ready to secure the defender on a two-year deal following a successful loan spell from Manchester City.

The centre-back has been a key figure under Cristian Chivu this season, quickly establishing himself as a regular starter and playing a central role in Inter’s march towards the Serie A title. His consistency has already satisfied one of the key conditions required to trigger a permanent transfer.

As part of the agreement struck last September, Inter committed to signing Akanji outright if two clauses were met: the defender reaching at least 50% of the club’s appearances across the season, and the team securing the Scudetto. The first target has long been achieved, while the second is now within touching distance.

Akanji part of Inter summer overhaul as veteran defenders set to leave

The deal is expected to cost around €15m, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport, with Akanji’s contract automatically extending through to 2028 once the conditions are fulfilled. Speaking earlier in the season, the Swiss international admitted: “I can’t know what will happen in the summer, but I can say I’m very happy here.”

Inter’s move to secure Akanji comes amid a wider defensive overhaul. Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij are both approaching the end of their contracts, while Matteo Darmian and Yann Sommer are also facing uncertain futures.

There is also growing expectation that Alessandro Bastoni could depart, increasing the importance of retaining a reliable and experienced figure like Akanji. Alongside Yann Bisseck, he is now seen as a cornerstone of Inter’s evolving back line as the club prepares for its next cycle.

Italy defender Calafiori back in Arsenal starting XI after injury absence

2 May 2026 at 20:22

Riccardo Calafiori has returned to the starting XI for Arsenal against Fulham, marking his comeback after a recent injury absence as Mikel Arteta rotates his side.

The Italy international had been expected to feature against Newcastle but was ultimately left out of the matchday squad, despite nearing full fitness. Arteta was forced into selection decisions due to squad limitations, with Calafiori among those to miss out.

“Because these guys have been exceptional, I understand that,” Arteta explained. “We had to leave two players out of the squad at the end… there were Christian and Richi [Calafiori], so that’s going to happen.”

He added: “If the Premier League allows us to have 20 or 22 players, we can have everybody involved and hopefully next season that will be the case.”

Calafiori return a welcome boost for Arsenal

Calafiori’s return now offers a timely boost, particularly with Arsenal balancing domestic commitments and their upcoming Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid. Arteta has made several changes from the side that started in Madrid, but the inclusion of the former Roma defender is the standout.

Prior to the match, speaking to Sky Sport, Arteta revealed the importance of

Arsenal continue to chase the Premier League title, though their focus is inevitably split given the importance of their European campaign. Calafiori’s presence at left-back adds defensive stability and tactical flexibility, especially alongside a settled back line featuring William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.

His return will be closely monitored, but it represents a positive step as Arsenal head into a decisive period of the season.

Fabregas: ‘Football is constantly evolving, must go for victory with Napoli’

2 May 2026 at 19:47

Cesc Fabregas insists ‘football is constantly evolving and you need to keep up with it’ as his Como host Antonio Conte’s Napoli. ‘Losing or drawing is the same thing, we must go for victory.’

It kicks off at the Stadio Sinigaglia at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

There are only eight points separating these teams going into the weekend, so with Como and Roma in joint fifth place and Napoli in second, the race for a Champions League spot is still open.

“We feel calm, because we are a very young team, you can see in the eyes of the players that this is an important stage of the season, and we want to keep taking steps forward,” Fabregas told DAZN Italia.

“This is a big game against a team that is very, very strong.”

Fabregas played under Conte at Chelsea for two years, and therefore knows his tactics very well.

Having tried to reshuffle his system a few times in recent weeks with three or four at the back, has he prepared anything special for facing Napoli?

“It’s just about going for the victory, so we need to press high, have the right mentality. Losing or drawing is the same thing at this stage of the season, so we must go for the victory and to score goals.”

Nico Paz, Mergim Vojvoda and Sergi Roberto have shaken off knocks, so the only remaining absentee for the hosts is long-term injury case Jayden Addai.

The Argentina international had been taken to hospital for checks after the 2-0 win away to Genoa, as he was having trouble with his vision following a clash of heads.

“I am very happy with Nico Paz, he has always scored lots of goals, but the improvement was in his interpretation, his movement. He has a big margin for further improvement, but has done better in his posture, gathering the ball and turning when pressed.

“He already scored I think 15 goals in all competition this season, so that’s a good tally and hopefully he can add more in the last few games.”

Conte said in his pre-match interview that Fabregas is a fine coach because he is always ‘studying’ the game, and this is something the Spaniard acknowledges.

“I used to study as a player, so I try to do it as a coach, because I see no other way. I don’t create my own ideas, I go around seeing other methods, the way others train and work, then I try to adapt those ideas to our football,” replied Fabregas.

“Studying football is essential, because what works today probably won’t work in two weeks. I was looking at some pressing movements we did in Serie B just two years ago, I wouldn’t do that now. Football is constantly evolving and you need to keep up with it.”

Conte: ‘Fabregas destined for greatness, Como and Napoli positive teams’

2 May 2026 at 19:31

Antonio Conte says his former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was ‘destined for greatness’ as a coach at Como, warning Napoli will engage in ‘an open game.’

It kicks off at the Stadio Sinigaglia at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s Serie A games on the Liveblog.

Napoli were knocked out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final by Como in a penalty shoot-out in February, and haven’t beaten them since a 3-1 home result in October 2024.

It is also a reunion with Conte’s former Chelsea midfielder Fabregas, who is now flourishing on the touchline.

“Neither of the two teams will certainly try to play for the draw, so I expect an open game,” Conte told DAZN Italia.

“I am happy for Cesc, because he was always destined for greatness, and was fortunate during his career to play for teams like Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea, working for top coaches over the years. He is a great coach because he studies carefully.

“Como are improving decisively year on year, causing real problems for the big clubs in Serie A, and will certainly keep growing.”

The Scudetto dream has sailed, as if Napoli lose here and Milan fail to get the better of Sassuolo tomorrow, then Inter will be mathematically crowned Champions of Italy without setting foot on the pitch.

Their focus now has to be on locking down second place, because Como are just eight points behind them in joint fifth with Roma, but a victory here would mathematically lock down Champions League qualification.

“We try to press high, create problems for our opponents, and Como are similar. These are two super organised teams who try to be pro-active and not passive, so both will try to take the initiative.”

Giovanni Di Lorenzo returns to the squad for the first time since a knee ligament injury three months ago, so only David Neres, Antonio Vergara and Romelu Lukaku are still out of action.

“Di Lorenzo had around 200 consecutive games, so he is a fundamental figure for us, both for his leadership, but also the attitude he brings on and off the field. He needs time to recover after so many months on the shelf, he only just started training with us this week, so it will take patience to get him back to full fitness,” concluded Conte.

Serie A official line-ups: Como vs. Napoli

The Scudetto could be assigned tomorrow, but meanwhile the Champions League places were not locked down, as Como and Roma were in joint fifth, just three points behind Juventus.

This is a special reunion for Fabregas and his former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.

Jayden Addai is the only remaining absentee for Fabregas, because Sergi Roberto, Mergim Vojvoda and Nico Paz all shake off knocks after their 2-0 victory away to Genoa.

Tasos Douvikas leads the attack rather than Alvaro Morata, with support from Nico Paz, Baturina and Assane Diao.

Lucas Da Cunha and Maximo Perrone pull the midfield strings, as they try to keep European ambitions alive.

Napoli saw the dream of retaining their Scudetto disappear after a draw at Parma and defeat to Lazio, but kept hold of second place with their 4-0 thrashing of Cremonese.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo is back on the bench for the first time, three months after a knee ligament injury, meaning only David Neres, Antonio Vergara and Romelu Lukaku are still out of action.

McTominay, Stanislav Lobotka and Matteo Politano are in midfield, with De Bruyne and Alisson Santos supporting Hojlund.

The only change from the side that beat Cremonese is Sam Beukema replacing Matias Olivera in defence.

Napoli were knocked out of the Coppa Italia quarter-final by Como in a penalty shoot-out in February, and haven’t beaten them since a 3-1 home result in October 2024.

Report Napoli cannot celebrate Cajuste sale to Ipswich Town yet

2 May 2026 at 19:00

Napoli cannot celebrate the sale of Jens Cajuste yet, as Fabrizio Romano reports promotion isn’t enough to activate the Ipswich Town €7.5m option to buy.

The midfielder was sent out to the Championship side last summer on loan with an option to make the move permanent at a cost of €7.5m.

It had been reported that this included a clause making the purchase an obligation in case of promotion to the Premier League.

So with the Tractor Boys stepping up to the top flight this weekend, Napoli had hoped to cash in on Cajuste.

Napoli must wait for Cajuste cash

However, transfer pundit Romano warns the clause in question also includes the requirement that he play in 50 per cent of their games, and he hasn’t achieved that target yet.

The Sweden international has featured in 31 games between the Championship and FA Cup this season, contributing one goal and four assists.

Napoli paid €11.5m to sign Cajuste from Stade Reims in the summer of 2023, but he never made an impact, going on two different loans to Ipswich Town in August 2024 and again in August 2025.

Those loans brought in circa €2.7m in fees to the Partenopei club coffers.

Serie A | Udinese 2-0 Torino: Friulani shove sorry Toro aside

2 May 2026 at 18:57

Udinese maintained their pursuit of a top 10 finish by sweeping sorry Torino aside 2-0 with Kingsley Ehizibue and Thomas Kristensen goals.

The Friulani had a lengthy absentee list including Keinan Davis, Jesper Karlstrom, Jordan Zemura, Alessandro Zanoli and Nicolò Bertola after a 3-3 thriller at Lazio. Toro were also decimated, missing Duvan Zapata, Che Adams, Marcus Pedersen, Tino Anjorin, Zakaria Aboukhlal and Ardian Ismajli after their comeback from 2-0 down to hold leaders Inter 2-2.

Udinese wore a special jersey commemorating the 50th anniversary of the devastating earthquake in the region that killed over 1,000 and there was a fanfare before kick-off. There was also a minute’s silence before all games this weekend for Formula 1 and Paralympic legend Alex Zanardi.

Giovanni Simeone was denied from point-blank range by Maduka Okoye in the opening minutes when meeting the Valentino Lazaro cross, while Gvidas Gineitis got the finish wrong on a corner kick routine.

The first chance for the hosts saw Christian Kabasele’s finish from a free kick deflected wide, and Udinese scored in chaotic fashion.

Adam Buksa robbed Gineitis, then Nicolò Zaniolo was blocked off by Alberto Paleari, so Buksa fired onto the upright of an open goal, before Zaniolo turned in the rebound. However, it didn’t count because Zaniolo was offside.

Zaniolo ran onto a through ball and cut inside, his strike deflected off Saul Coco to prevent a certain goal, and an Oumar Solet glancing header smothered.

Udinese did eventually get their goal in first half stoppages and it was again far from a clean move. Coco made a mistake on a throw-in and was robbed by Solet, it was rolled across from the left by Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, where Rafa Obrador risked an own goal, so Kingsley Ehizibue was ready right behind him to prod over the line.

The second goal was more orthodox, as Thomas Kristensen was allowed a free glancing header on a Lennon Miller corner from six yards.

Torino struggled to create any real chances in a disappointing second half performance, but Zaniolo was even more frustrated with a continuing goal drought, as he ran from his own half only to see a shot charged down, then had penalty appeals rejected and fired another effort straight at Paleari.

Spalletti: ‘No Juventus calculations, not happy with Milan performance’

2 May 2026 at 18:40

Luciano Spalletti warns Juventus must not ‘make calculations’ for a top four finish, gives a Kenan Yildiz update, and admits he was ‘not happy’ with the 0-0 at Milan.

It kicks off with already relegated Verona at the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin on Sunday at 17.00 UK time (18.00 CEST).

There will be a minute’s silence before kick-off in every Serie A match this weekend for Alex Zanardi, the legendary former Formula 1 driver who lost both legs in a crash, then became a champion Paralympian, who died this morning at age 59.

“I wanted to start by remembering a truly unique man for his values, both in life and in sport, like Alex Zanardi. I was fortunate enough to know him and what he passed on to others was indescribable,” said Spalletti at the start of his press conference.

The Bianconeri have opened up a three-point lead over Como and Roma in fourth place, but the Champions League qualification is still far from secure.

“When I hear people talk about fourth place, I hear certain calculations, but you don’t get there with calculations, you do it by maintaining a certain consistency,” warned Spalletti.

“We must focus on the Champions League and not on fourth place. We know full well what we did to get back into the top four, but there is a difference between needing to prove something and needing to defend something.”

Juan Cabal and Arkadiusz Milik are out for the season, with Dusan Vlahovic back on the bench, but the big question mark is around Kenan Yildiz.

“We all know how important Yildiz is for us, so we have to evaluate the bigger picture for his health. He had this little inflammation, his last two training sessions went very well and he felt no pain. We have no doubts on his presence in tomorrow’s game.

“Vlahovic is the same situation, he can give us a big hand in the remaining matches this season and we don’t have someone else with his characteristics.

“Yildiz always has this positivity, a sunny disposition, even when he had difficult moments. He is already looking to the future, I met his splendid family, his teammates love him too. I feel fortunate to be training him.”

Spalletti was pushed on some other subjects, including that epic Paris Saint-Germain 5-4 Bayern Munich Champions League semi-final, which felt like a different sport to Juve’s dismal 0-0 draw with Milan.

“The Champions League is not a tournament that rewards security, but rather those who shake things up. In our football, we tend to like staying in control, but the Champions League relishes chaos, pace and being unpredictable,” replied the coach.

“This is where modern football is heading, and we must adapt. Look, I was not happy with the performance at San Siro either, because it reduced us a little bit, we started playing the game they wanted us to.

“We brought home a result, but didn’t make an impact, and that left me with bellyache the next day. I told the team that too.”

Spalletti did take the opportunity to aim a little sideswipe at rivals Inter when discussing Juve’s Champions League record.

“We had some good results in that tournament, we won away to Bodo/Glimt, where some people ought to rewrite their articles about our game, seeing as they were a little presumptuous…”

So how could Italian football be forced into these changes and adapt to the modern game?

“I think teams should be obliged to start at least one under-21 player, it would be a shock to the Calcio system.”

Ranieri: ‘A legend was born’ with Leicester City triumph 10 years ago

2 May 2026 at 18:11

Claudio Ranieri looks back a decade on from the iconic Leicester City Premier League victory, as the Foxes drop into the third tier. ‘I tweaked things, and from there a legend was born.’

It is a decade on since Ranieri made football history by winning the Premier League title with minnows Leicester City, leaving behind clubs with far bigger budgets and glorious trophy cabinets.

As a sign of quite what a sporting miracle that was, Leicester City will play in League One next season, the English equivalent of Serie C, after back-to-back relegations.

To commemorate the anniversary, Ranieri sat down with singer-songwriter Sayf, who made headlines when saying his unexpected hit made him feel like Leicester City.

“There was an incredible positive energy behind the team at that time, but I was only convinced that I would win the Premier League when I actually won the Premier League,” Ranieri told Sky Sport Italia.

“This was considered a yo-yo team, they’d go up and down the divisions, and have just now dropped into the English third tier. When the President hired me, he asked to get 40 points and secure safety from relegation as early as possible. From there, a legend was born.

“I arrived, the team was in a training retreat because they’d sacked the coach, I had two days to prepare watching games from previous seasons. I changed a few things, as they were accustomed to a different system, saw some players who I felt it was right to change, and then the team really started to push.”

When asked if there was a moment or game when he saw the situation change, Ranieri insisted there wasn’t a specific turning point in that remarkable season.

“I started tweaking things because we conceded too many goals. I changed the two wide defenders, and from there the team conceded fewer goals.

“Another potential moment was a series of three games against Manchester City away, Liverpool at home, and Arsenal away, before the break for international duty.

“Jamie Vardy said to me: ‘Mister, shall we get nine points?’ I replied that if they picked up nine points, I’d give them the whole week off for a vacation. We won 3-1 in Manchester, we beat Liverpool, were 1-0 up over Arsenal until going down to 10 men and losing at the 93rd minute.

“Everyone was so sad in the dressing room, so I told them: ‘I always asked you for the maximum in every game. We lost today, but you gave your best, so in my mind you earned three points. So you can have the whole week off.’ That might’ve been another building block in the victory.”

Ranieri also famously did the ‘dilly-ding dilly-dong’ gesture in training, his version of ringing a bell as a wake-up call to his Leicester City players.

“In all my experiences, I tried to keep everyone involved with a smile,” said the coach.

Confirmed: Minute’s silence before every Serie A Week 35 match for Zanardi

2 May 2026 at 17:58

The FIGC has confirmed that there will be a minute’s silence before every Serie A match in the 35th round of fixtures in tribute to the late Alex Zanardi, who has died at the age of 59.

Serie A will remember Zanardi before every Week 35 match

“It is with deep sorrow that the family communicates the death of Alessandro Zanardi, which occurred suddenly yesterday evening, May 1st,” read a statement from his family on Saturday morning.

“Alex passed away peacefully, surrounded by the affection of his loved ones. The family sincerely thanks all those who are showing closeness in these hours and asks for respect for their pain and privacy in this moment of mourning”.

Zanardi was an icon of Italian paralympic sport. A former motor sports driver who competed in Formula One between 1991 and 1994 and again in 1999, he had both legs amputated after a serious crash during a CART event in 2001.

Zanardi miraculously recovered and continued racing in specially-adapted cars across various different race formats, before turning his focus to hand cycling.

He would go on to win four gold medals and two silvers between the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games in London and Rio de Janeiro.

He was sadly involved in another major accident in 2020 while competing in the Obiettivo tricolore, the Italian national road race for paralympic athletes. This accident left him hospitalised for 18 months and with life-altering injuries.

Zanardi died on Friday, May 1, at the age of 59.

Many Serie A clubs and coaches have paid their respects to the late Zanardi on social media and in their pre-match press conferences on Saturday.

Allegri on Pulisic, Leao and Champions League target: ‘Some values don’t change’

2 May 2026 at 16:56

Massimiliano Allegri insists that he is not concerned by Christian Pulisic’s lack of goals in 2026, has confirmed the players that are in line to replace the injured Luka Modric, but avoided commenting on the topic of a potential sale of Rafael Leao this summer.

The Rossoneri tactician sat down for his customary pre-match press conference on Saturday ahead of his side’s upcoming test against Sassuolo on Saturday.

Allegri previews Sassuolo vs. Milan

Allegri began his press conference with a word of remembrance for former Formula One driver-turned Paralympian Alex Zanardi, who has died at the age of 59: “It’s right to remember Zanardi, an example in life, an example of human and sporting values. He put professionalism and passion into sport. My condolences to his family. He has amazing values.”

The topic of discussion soon reverted to the task at hand in Serie A. One of the biggest conundrums facing Allegri is how to place Luka Modric, who will miss the remainder of the season after fracturing his cheekbone against Juventus last weekend.

“We’re very sorry about this bad injury, which will keep him out until the end of the season, even if he has a big desire to come back,” Allegri commented.

“He shows so much passion for the work he does and I hope this has been a lesson for the other players. We have great players to replace him, either Jashari or Ricci, who have grown a lot and in whom I have a lot of confidence.

“Jashari has grown a lot. Unfortunately he had a bad injury at the beginning of the season which kept him out for a long time. He has desire, he’s curious, he has his whole future ahead of him and I think Milan made an excellent signing.”

Allegri confirmed that he has recently sat down with Milan’s senior management, but insisted: “It’s normal. Evaluations aren’t just made about the future, but also on how the season has gone so far, even if the final evaluation will be made at the end of the season.

“We’ve created a base, but we need to get into the Champions League.”

Allegri was also asked for his opinion on the continuing refereeing scandal in Serie A: “I haven’t made up my mind, these are delicate subjects. The relevant bodies will evaluate. After everything that’s happened, the last round was a positive for the referees. They did a good job and psychologically it wasn’t easy.”

All season, Allegri has insisted that returning to the Champions League is Milan’s only focus. They are closing in on qualification, and with Inter set to win the Scudetto, potentially by the end of the weekend, is a second-place finish now the target for the Rossoneri?

“We have to do our best,” said Allegri. “We have a difficult game tomorrow because Sassuolo have good technical ability and can score goals at any time. They have good players and a good coach.

“Grosso is the revelation of this Serie A season because he’s grown a lot. Despite the difficulties of the early stages of his career, he’s made big steps forwards. Tomorrow is the first of the last four, we have to face it with calmness because we can’t let the goal slip away.”

Allegri was also asked if there is any possibility that Rafael Leao leaves the club during the summer transfer window.

He replied: “Talking about the market now makes no sense. One step at a time. We want to return to playing in the Champions League and the whole group has to be focused on that. Then, at the end of the season, we will all make evaluations to see if we can improve the work we’ve done this year.”

Allegri also commented on summer signing Christopher Nkunku: “He has great technical qualities. He’s had difficulties, but he’s scored goals. Maybe from tomorrow the strikers will start scoring again. We don’t discuss the (financial) value of the player. There are different factors that can make him do well one year and not in another.”

Santiago Gimenez has recently returned from injury but has found it difficult to break into the side since then.

“He’s a player who arrived last year, then had the immediate ankle problem. He’s an important player. Unfortunately the injury has kept him out for four or five months this year, and returning at the end of the season isn’t easy, especially for the tempo. He’s committed, he’s a valuable player despite this bad year.”

Christian Pulisic has not struggled for opportunities, but remains without a goal in 2026.

“Pulisic is an important player for Milan and it’s difficult to find players as good as him,” Allegri insisted. “You don’t have to look at whether or not the players do well or don’t do well in a certain year, there are some values that don’t change.

“He’s been missing that goal in recent games, but he’s been active. Right now, you have to put personal goals to one side and work for the team because our final target is too important. Those who play, those who come on, have to have an excellent attitude because that’s how we get the result, as well as doing well in defence and attack.”
