4 November 2025 at 14:05

Pillars of Eternity announcement for Turn Based Mode Beta.

Obsidian announced that the cRPG Pillars of Eternity will receive the fan-requested turn-based mode tomorrow. It will be a public beta going live on Steam and the Xbox PC app. As you already know if you played the game, Pillars of Eternity is currently available only as a real-time with pause (RTwP) game, whereas its sequel, Deadfire, eventually introduced an optional turn-based mode. Fans had long requested this option in the first installment, and now Obsidian is delivering. The announcement came directly from Josh Sawyer, the project director (also known for Fallout: New Vegas and, more recently, Pentiment), who said: […]

Two NetEase-funded companies founded by MMO veterans, T-Minus Zero Entertainment and Fantastic Pixel Castle, shared the fate of losing NetEase's support, just like many other studios. Both have scrambled to find alternate publishers and ways to stay alive, and now, they have two announcements - one of hope and another of (almost) defeat. T-Minus Zero announced in a press release that a small group of veteran directors and founders has decided to acquire the studio name to carry the team's spirit forward, and they are relaunching as an independent production company. The studio now aims to create high-quality gaming experiences […]

3 November 2025 at 23:00

Bill Roper, a Blizzard veteran who worked on the first games in the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo franchises in various capacities (producer, design, voice-over, etc.), has announced that his studio has secured funding for Innsmouth Mysteries. The studio, Lunacy Games, was actually supposed to produce Hellgate: Redemption, a sequel to Hellgate: London, a cult classic Diablo-like game that Roper created after departing from Blizzard, and a game called Skinwalkers, which would merge the Weird West and Cthulhu settings, with players acting as cowboys. However, speaking to GamesBeat, Roper said the studio couldn't find anyone who would fund this project, which […]

Just Cause Creator Doesn’t Think There Will Be a Fifth Game in the Series

3 November 2025 at 21:35

Just Cause looks at a tornado and helicopter over a mountainous landscape.

Just Cause creator Cristofer Sundberg left Avalanche Studios, which he had co-founded, in late 2020 to create his own company, Liquid Swords. The studio is working on a GTA-like open world game that was first shown to the world last year. Recently, it has shared around ten seconds of new in-game footage to keep players intrigued about the untitled project. However, a few hours ago, Sundberg returned to the topic of Just Cause. In a series of tweets published on X, he stated that it is unlikely we'll see a fifth mainline installment from Avalanche Studios. Me and my team […]

GTA London 1969 Likely to Remain the Only Foray Outside US as Other Settings Lack ‘Americana’, Says Dan Houser

3 November 2025 at 17:15

GTA London text Mission Pack #1: London 1969.

So far, GTA London 1969 remains the only installment in the franchise to take place outside of the United States. Fans have long wondered if Rockstar would ever return to London or perhaps even bring the series elsewhere in the world. However, based on the statement relayed by Dan Houser (who wrote all the games in the series save for the upcoming sixth), that seems unlikely. Speaking to the Lex Fridman podcast, he explained that the franchise is intrinsically linked to American culture. We made a little thing in London 26 years ago, GTA London, for the top-down for the […]

GTA creator Dan Houser stands next to a Rockstar Games logo on a wall.

GTA creator Dan Houser, a co-founder of Rockstar Games, famously left the company in early 2020 after a twenty-two-year career. The following year, he founded a new company called Absurd Ventures, which has so far released a podcast series, a graphic novel, and a novel, with games also in development. Houser, who wrote all Rockstar videogames from GTA London: 1969 to Red Dead Redemption 2, was recently featured in a massive, nearly three-hour-long video interview on the Lex Fridman podcast. GTA Developer Accused of Union Busting After They Fired Dozens of Employees Who Were Trying to Unionize

1 November 2025 at 13:45

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) developer Rockstar Games has been mostly exempt from the rounds of layoffs that have rocked the industry throughout the last three years or so. This week, they have fired between 30 and 40 employees across offices in the United Kingdom and Canada, but not due to financial problems (which they do not have). According to the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), this has been an act of 'union busting', as all the developers fired were attempting to unionize. Alex Marshall, president of the IWGB, said in a statement: Rockstar has just carried out the […]
