The last general Nintendo Direct event took place in September 2025, and while we've had several Nintendo Direct events this year (like two Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct events), we're still waiting for 2026 to get its first big Direct event. Unfortunately, this year's iteration of Mario Day so far has not included a surprise Direct announcement, but we did get a release date for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on the Nintendo Switch 2, the game that closed out September's Direct. It's frankly still a bit shocking that the Direct event that revealed several ways Nintendo was celebrating the […]

Embark Studios has pushed a new patch to ARC Raiders today, which adds a new outfit set and two new haircuts for players to customize their characters with, on top of several bug fixes. While being adamant that the studio does not normally compensate players for every incident where players lose their loot […]

The iconic Vault Boy from the 'Fallout' series is giving a thumbs-up on a blue and yellow background.

Fallout 3 Remastered is one of gaming's worst-kept secrets. While the game has yet to be announced, a new McFarlane toy listing spotted on the series subreddit leaves little doubt that the iconic third entry in the series is indeed coming at some point. The listing spotted by the Fallout subreddit, originally shared by Toy News International, features, among DC and Marvel toys, an "ELITE EDITION 7IN – FALLOUT 3 REMASTERED – #13 T-45B NUKA COLA." Independent Polish game developer Bloober Team has recently updated its investors on the studio's upcoming lineup, including the freshly announced Layers of Fear 3. The game became a million seller on day one when it launched on Thursday, August 28, merely on the heels of pre-orders. The game took 173 days to get to the second million, though, which isn't great. Valve’s Steam Machine/Frame/Controller Are Now Targeting β€œThis Year” Instead of H1 2026

7 March 2026 at 13:00

The Steam Frame, Steam Controller, and Steam Machine devices.

Late yesterday evening, Valve posted a 2025 Steam retrospective that also included some small but significant tidbits on the Steam Machine, Steam Frame, and Steam Controller shipping. As you will certainly recall, their original goal was to ship all three products in early 2026, as confirmed even by AMD CEO Lisa Su. However, shortly after that statement, Valve told consumers that it was forced to delay the timetable on the heels of the ongoing memory and storage crisis and was now targeting the first half of 2026. The new blog post appears to quietly push the shipping window even further. […]

Since April 2025, the wider video game industry has been discussing how Nintendo and other hardware makers would respond to the tariffs imposed by the current US government and how those tariffs would affect the price of devices and consumer sales. In all that discussion, the idea that Nintendo, despite its litigious nature, would respond with a lawsuit aimed at the US Government was not what you would call a popular guess. Well, Aftermath's latest report is a reminder to never underestimate Nintendo's willingness to go to court. Nintendo is officially suing the US Government, specifically Scott Bessent, Secretary of […]

This year's Game Developers Conference (GDC) kicks off next Monday, and a controversy has already emerged following today's LinkedIn outburst by industry veteran Greg Costikyan. First things first, though: context. While not a household name among gamers like Hideo Kojima or Todd Howard, Costikyan is a renowned game designer whose career spans tabletop roleplaying games, board games, wargames, video games (he worked from 2019 to 2023 on Stars Reach, the upcoming sci-fi sandbox MMO by Playable Worlds, as Game Design Lead), and more. He also wrote four novels. A friend of Warren Spector (Ultima, System Shock, Deus Ex, Thief, Epic […]

New Report Suggests Sony was Losing Out on PC Sales of SP-Games Due to its Reluctance Towards Same-Day PC/PS5 Launches

6 March 2026 at 21:44

Blue glowing PlayStation symbols (triangle, circle, cross, square) on a dark background.

PC players are still reeling from Bloomberg's report earlier this week that Sony will be pulling back on its strategy of putting its first-party PlayStation titles on PC. Ghost of Yotei and Saros are the first two that seemingly won't be making the jump, and it doesn't seem like any PlayStation Studios titles (at least the single-player ones) will get PC ports in the future. The key element as to why Sony is backing off from putting its single-player games on PC fell on claims that it simply wasn't worth it. Despite the first batch of PlayStation titles selling well […]

RoboCop: Rogue City was Briefly Replaced With What Seems to be an Unannounced New 3D Hunter: The Reckoning Game on Steam

6 March 2026 at 20:25

A cover image for Hunter: The Reckoning showing close-up art of a person with an intense expression and grunge text style.

This is probably the oddest way for what appears to be a fairly major leak to appear. RoboCop: Rogue City developer Teyon seems to have accidentally leaked its next project, or an early build of a project that never got off the ground, or an early build of its next project. That's all unclear, but what's happened is that someone at Teyon accidentally swapped RoboCop: Rogue City out with an entirely different game when updating it on Steam, revealing what could potentially be a new 3D Hunter: The Reckoning game. First noted by X (formerly Twitter) user Silent, an update […]

Nintendo’s Fifth Nintendo Direct of 2026 is…Another Super Mario Galaxy Movie Direct

6 March 2026 at 19:12

Yoshi and Luigi from the Super Mario series stand in a colorful, whimsical environment with vivid pink and purple foliage.

Earlier this week, Nintendo hosted its fourth Nintendo Direct event of 2026, and considering that we're only a few days into March at the time of this writing, that's a pretty condensed window for the Mario company to be setting up what players can look forward to for the year. Today, Nintendo has already announced it will host a fifth Nintendo Direct event next week, but it's not the kind you were hoping for. Instead of following up Tuesday's Indie World Showcase Direct with a larger, general Nintendo Direct like Nintendo has in the past, the very next Direct event […]

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is officially "still in development," as confirmed by Saber Interactive CCO Tim Willits in a new interview with IGN. The statement provides a rare moment of reassurance for a fanbase that has spent years wondering if the project had quietly joined the list of canceled projects of the past few months. Unfortunately, this is where the good news ends today. Willits did not provide any additional information on the remake, saying that confirming its development status is all that he could say. β€œYes, it is still in development. That’s all I […]

PlayStation 6 Reportedly Won’t Be Delayed Due to RAM Costs: β€œIt Would Cost More to Delay Than to Pay Extra”

6 March 2026 at 16:43

A sleek, futuristic console labeled 'PS6 PlayStation 6' with the PlayStation logo is displayed on a pedestal.

The PlayStation 6 will reportedly stick to its 2027/early 2028 launch window despite rising component costs, as the financial penalty for delaying TSMC 3nm production far outweighs the current "RAMmageddon" price hikes. Despite recent rumors suggesting a push to 2029, insider Moore’s Law Is Dead argues that Sony’s production contracts with TSMC and the massive development costs already sunk into the system's Orion APU would make a significant delay extremely problematic. According to the report shared in a new YouTube video, Sony has reportedly already secured its 3nm manufacturing allotment from TSMC for Q2 2027. Pulling out now would be […]

A lightning storm illuminates a desolate scene with abandoned cars and a large, spider-like robot in the distance from the video game ARC Raiders.

Embark Studios' latest update for ARC Raiders isn't your bog-standard fixes or new content release. Instead, it's an update that the team rushed out the door this morning after a report from tech blogger and systems engineer Timothy Meadows pointed to an incident where two ARC Raiders players' private Discord DMs (direct messages) appeared in a game log file. Per Meadows report, the game's Discord SDK captured private messages between two users and a Discord Bearer token. With the current RAM prices, however, it remains to be seen how Valve will handle this critical element (and its release date), and with things unlikely to improve anytime soon, it's looking less likely that the system could be released within the price range of a traditional […]

A character from the game Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced stands on a ship's rigging with the logo and title visible.

Ubisoft has provided a major update on what's coming next in the Assassin's Creed franchise as we near the one-year anniversary of its last major release, Assassin's Creed Shadows. Firstly, we can finally stop calling the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake a 'rumoured' game, because Ubisoft has finally officially confirmed the remake to be on its way and that it is indeed titled 'Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced,' which was the title that leaked in December 2025. In a blog post on the official Ubisoft website titled 'Assassin's Creed: Into 2026,' recently named head of AC content, Jean Guesdon, appears […]

James Bond holding a gun is seen in front of the text '007 First Light'.

In a little more than two months, we'll be able to jump into IO Interactive's latest major game, 007 First Light. The storied Hitman developer taking on a James Bond story felt like a match made in heaven when it was first revealed all the way back in 2020. As we wait to find out if we were right about IO and James Bond being as good as peanut butter and chocolate, IO Interactive has just released a new deep-dive into the game, with the studio focusing in on its version of Bond and the cast of classic 007 characters. After having been in development for a very long time, Crimson Desert is almost upon us. Up until now, however, developer Pearl Abyss has only shown the game on PC, raising concerns over the console versions of the game and making more than a few suspect the developer was actually hiding console footage in a tragic repeat of the Cyberpunk 2077 situation back in 2022, forcing PR representatives to address the matter outright. Following the confirmation that Pearl Abyss is not hiding Crimson Desert console footage, details on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro versions have been shared online, […]

β€œWe’re Not Hiding Anything”: Pearl Abyss’ PR Fires Back at Players Who Claim the Team is β€œHiding” Crimson Desert on Consoles

4 March 2026 at 20:00

The image features key characters and a dragon in a dramatic landscape with the title 'Crimson Desert' prominently displayed.

Cyberpunk 2077 really did a number on how players look at major upcoming games. Yes, it's now an incredibly successful RPG, but its launch is an event that no one will soon forget, and CD Projekt RED's blatant misdirection regarding how the game ran on last-gen consoles has made players incredibly weary of any big game that doesn't put console gameplay footage front and center, and now, Crimson Desert, one of the most anticipated titles of 2026, seems to be feeling the ripple effects from that launch. To be clear, we have seen footage of Crimson Desert running on consoles, […]

Control Resonant Devil May Cry-Like Gameplay Will Target 60 FPS On All Platforms

4 March 2026 at 19:48

A character in the game Control Resonant is getting attacked by a large fiery creature emitting bright flames.

Although it was widely known that Remedy Entertainment has been working on the second entry in the Control series for a while, the reveal of Control Resonant was still quite a surprise for fans of the Finnish studio. Right from its very first showing during last year's The Game Awards show, it was clear how the second entry in the series would be a very different game from its predecessor, closer to a character action game than to the third-person shooter formula seen in Jesse Faden's venture into the Oldest House. The first few looks at Control Resonant's gameplay gave […]

Ghost of Yotei and Saros Reportedly Won’t Be Coming to PC as Sony Pivots Back Towards PS-Console Exclusives for Single-Player Games

4 March 2026 at 18:30

Multiple iconic video game characters and a baseball player montage in front of the 'PlayStation Studios' logo.

After Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier initially pointed to PlayStation, "backing away from putting their traditional single-player games on PC" on a podcast, he's now published a longer report, which digs a bit deeper into the situation. Essentially, it seems Sony has decided to pivot its strategy of putting its more traditional single-player games on PC, shifting back to keeping them as PlayStation console exclusives. Now, both Ghost of Yotei and Saros won't make the jump to PC as a result. That means PC players who loved Returnal or Ghost of Tsushima on PC will have to buy a PS5 if […]

The Financial Times has published a paywalled report revealing that the US government is presently evaluating whether to compel the giant Chinese gaming publisher Tencent to divest from US gaming companies for national security purposes. Top officials have held internal meetings to assess whether Tencent's many investments can be allowed to continue, since they give them access to data on millions of American gamers. A cabinet-level meeting to discuss the matter was scheduled for today, but was postponed due to scheduling conflicts. US President Donald Trump is preparing to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in China in April, so presumably, […]

A character from Fallout: New Vegas stands holding a flag labeled 'New California Republic' against a fiery sky backdrop.

Years after its release, Fallout: New Vegas continues to be one of the most popular entries in the series, and demand for a remaster continues to be high. Late last month, it seemed like fans' wishes would come true in the near future, as development studio Iron Galaxy seemed to tease that it was working on this highly requested project. However, the developer has now confirmed that there was nothing to see in the image they shared a few days back. This morning, CAPCOM revealed in a press release that Resident Evil Requiem has already surpassed five million units sold globally in just six days since its February 27 launch. We already had an inkling of the game's excellent commercial performance based on how easily it smashed prior franchise concurrency records on Steam. User reviews on Valve's platform are also Overwhelmingly Positive (96% right now), and the game currently holds the best user score on Metacritic, tied with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Well, the moment we all felt was coming has finally arrived. Highguard, the maligned live service raid shooter from former Apex Legends developers at Wildlight Entertainment, is permanently shutting down next week, on March 12, 2026. When the servers go offline, it will have lasted for only 45 days between its January 26 launch and March 12. NO LAW Lets You Kill Any Character (and Live with the Consequences), Is Inspired by Immersive Sims

A character holding a futuristic gun in a cityscape with flying vehicles, with the text 'NO LAW' displayed prominently.

One of the most interesting game reveals at The Game Awards 2025, at least in my opinion, was Neon Giant's NO LAW. The new game from the makers of The Ascent is a first person open world shooter that was easy to compare to Cyberpunk 2077, although its developers were quick to address that, clarifying that it's "a lot more intimate" in comparison to CD Projekt RED's game. In a new interview with EDGE magazine (issue 421, April 2026), Neon Giant co-founder and creative director Arcade Berg revealed the true inspiration: immersive simulations. We feel really good about putting this […]

Nintendo hosted its first Indie World Showcase of 2026 and the fourth Nintendo Direct event of the year this morning, with an 18-minute presentation chock-full of indie games coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch. While the showcase lacked some of the heavy-hitter reveals we guessed at after Nintendo announced the showcase yesterday, like the release date reveal for Hollow Knight Silksong: Sea of Sorrows DLC or a Vampire Crawlers release date, it wasn't without its big indie announcements. Ever since video games have been a thing, players have always sought the help of others to overcome difficult segments. Last month, ahead of the launch of Resident Evil Requiem, the Resident Evil 4 remake received a surprise update on PC. While the small update did not add any content to the game, it removed the Denuvo DRM protection the game had since launch and replaced it with Enigma DRM, which had a significant impact on performance. While the community and games media such as Digital Foundry did not hide their disappointment at the practice of updating years-old games just to add DRM that ultimately ruins the experience for those who purchased the game, the lack of communication from CAPCOM […]

Resident Evil Requiem is now Tied With Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for the Highest User Score on Metacritic

The image shows a split scene with Resident Evil Requiem and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, with Grace Ashcroft holding a flashlight on the left, and four characters in Clair Obscur on the right.

Update 09/03/2026: On top of being tied with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Capcom's Resident Evil Requiem is now the highest-rated game on the PlayStation Store by its five-star user rating review system. Spotted on ResetEra, the game has over 51K ratings with a score of 4.91/5, while Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sits at 4.85/5 based on over 92K ratings. Its larger sample size is definitely a factor in why it has a lower score, but the point stands that Resident Evil Requiem is really resonating with players. Next week, French developer Spiders (a subsidiary of the ailing publisher NACON since 2019) will launch the game GreedFall: The Dying World, originally called GreedFall II, out of early access. It's a delicate time for the company, between the mixed reception to the early access version of The Dying World and the tensions within the studio in late 2024 that led to a strike and, eventually, to higher wages for employees.
